The replacement 4th generation Echo Dot device Amazon has introduced is substantially more expensive but gives little performance benefit. You won’t be sorry - and it performs exactly the same functions as its replacement.

I did not want to connect it to Wi-Fi because I wanted to have it as Bluetooth speaker. Must download the Amazon app to every device it connects to. Must be plugged in.

Combining both with an elegant design made it an obvious choice. On the Alexa side of things, works as expected; connect to internet, set up to your app and ask away.
