Good smart speaker for beginners

I moved to an Echo which was okay but then went to the Sonos One which offers excellent sound and value.

Replacement for Sirius/XM Receiver

We purchased Amazon's Echo Dot (3rd Generation) and we're pleasantly surprised that you can receive Sirius/XM through Wi-Fi. Sirius/XM gave us a nice discount on subscription price as well! Sound quality is amazing for a speaker so small!!!

Mildly useful. Creepy for constantly sending data

Sure it can tell me the weather while my hands are busy and define a word and set a timer or alarm or etc. All of these things that my phone can do as well. And it's creepy that it's always listening (for its activation phrase, supposedly) but there's no way to check that. It is constantly using data (evident from router logs which show both receiving and sending) even if it hasn't been activated. I'm not asking it to do anything so what data is it sending?
