With an Echo Dot in your home, you can Ask Alexa to play music, answer questions, read the news, check the weather, set alarms, control compatible smart home devices, and more. You are able to turn on lights, adjust thermostats, lock doors, and more with compatible connected devices. Alexa is always getting smarter and adding new skills like tracking fitness, playing games, and more.
This device is also built with multiple layers of privacy controls, including a microphone off button that electronically disconnects the mics.

T-Mobile home internet, Verizon, and AT&T are not available. The Echo Dot was useless. Could not hook it to Bluetooth and use.

Everything was conditional on Alexa not saving recordings of my voice, though. The Alexa app has a "don't save recordings" option, but it still saved my voice commands to the cloud and I still needed to delete them manually. I checked with Amazon customer service and they were unhelpful (gave me the runaround, testing options that have no apparent connection to saving recordings). Alexa is fast and informative as a personal assistant, but that's not why I bought the device. If Amazon cannot get their "don't save recordings" option right, then I don't have much of a reason to trust them with my privacy (not that you can really trust anyone these days).
