Clock is worthless

What good is a clock light that dims out totally when it is dark and lights up when you turn the light on? The whole purpose was to see the clock at night, in the dark! May have well saved the extra $$ to buy a Dot with a clock. You can always ask what time it is, or set an alarm to turn off and on across a room.
