With two of the same kind, I can now pair them up to use as a single speaker so it makes it into a bit of a surround system in my living room/kitchen.

It added convenience to your daily tasks. The 3rd Gen Echo Dot has the Far-Field mic that can hear your commands even from the next room, and with better speaker as well. Give it a try!
