These pancake Echo Dots are perfect for hiding in my house to provide that fill sound I was missing. This generation of Dot is more robust than the original and sound quality is excellent for a small speaker. You can tailor bass/mids/treble sound in the Alexa app and I have this one set up for voice. I put this one in the bathroom so I can listen to my live-streamed radio station while I shower and give me the local news and weather while I'm getting ready. It sits in a cradle that hugs the wall outlet so I have no wires to hide or counter space to give up. The new "globe" shaped Echo Dots can't do this for me so I'm very happy with my little pancake Dots.

Good sound for small speaker

That also makes it collect more dust that can't just be wiped down like the shiny 2nd generation. The other difference I dislike compared to previous generation is that the power adapter is bigger and proprietary, no longer the universal USB type. The 4th generation is already out, completely redesigned.
