The Echo Dot (5th Generation) is designed as a smart speaker only—it doesn't include a display screen. This is the standard design for the Echo Dot line, which focuses on delivering quality audio and Alexa voice assistance in a compact, affordable format. If you were expecting a device with a screen, you may have been looking for the Echo Show 5 or Echo Spot, which are Amazon's smart displays that combine a screen with speaker functionality.
I understand this wasn't what you needed, and discovering that after purchase is frustrating. If you're still within the return window, I'd encourage you to exchange it for an Echo Show model that includes the display you're looking for. The Echo Show 5 (5.5" screen) or Echo Show 8 (8" screen) would give you both visual display and speaker capabilities.

Such a tedious setup. You have to be standing next to your router to install this thing. Just buy a speaker, this thing is pointless in my opinion.
