There is a lot you can do for free on the Echo Dot like asking about the weather, setting timers, making voice calls to other Alexa enabled devices, control lighting/thermostats/smart plugs/appliances and more. If you want to play music, you can add your preferred music platform whether it be Amazon Music, Apple Music, Spotify, Pandora and more. An Amazon membership is free and easy to setup and is only used to register your device and allow you to log in to the Alexa smartphone app to be able to customize your Dot to your preferences. Had to be a bad one because I asked the Good Samaritan neighbor if he’d seen or heard it where it said it was on his property and he had no knowledge of any such speaker.

If you are not satisfied with the volume, there are other devices to better fit your needs, like Echo 4th Gen, Echo Show 8, and Echo Studio.
You can also fill your home with music using compatible Echo devices in different rooms, create a home theater system with Fire TV, or extend wifi coverage with a compatible eero network so you can say goodbye to drop-offs and buffering.
