Another evolution to the Amazon Echo Show line up!

I've been using the Alexa and Amazon Echo ecosystem for many years now. I've been through frustrations, I've been through excitement when the first Echo Shows first arrived. So what does the new, 3rd Generation Echo Show 5 have to offer? First off, the design, it's a more 'triangular' shape when looking down from above. It has slightly larger rubber buttons on top that are integrated into the housing, rather than the plastic buttons and frame on the earlier versions. There is still the camera cover slider available for your privacy as well. It is slightly smaller overall than the previous generation when looking at it face on. We wanted a sleeker, less obtrusive version for our dining room. We had previously been using a first generation 'puck' in there for years now, and wanted a little more information displayed on the screen, while being able to blend it into the background. Choosing a dark wood finish on the screen definitely helped with that in our 'Steampunk' inspired room. The triangular shape helps with the improved sound, a slightly larger speaker inside offers nicer, cleaner sound, with a little more bass at higher volumes that previously possible. The operation of the whole product is faster. Quicker to load from first power up, it feels more responsive to touch, sometimes a little too responsive when trying to scroll through the menus when setting it up at first. We turned the camera off, and via a the menus, turn off most of the unwanted options and main ads that we didn't want. There are still a few suggestions that are pushed to you when it is 'awake' but if you don't walk past it and activate it, you can see your background and the time nice and clearly from across the room. We don't have any intention of watching video or content like that from the screen in our dining room, but we do play music, we check our notifications, our weather alerts etc, and this is absolutely perfect for that. Very simple to set up, especially if you are already an Alexa user, but even for a first timer, you are walked through the set up process and you can skip steps if you are unsure or unfamiliar, like the Amazon Sidewalk program that is a shared network that can help you set up the device quicker, help you find lost items and more. It's free but you can choose if you want to opt into the program or not. We chose not to. You can also set up this Echo 5 to be kid friendly as well, which means it will only show kid appropriate content on the screen and disable some functions. Overall a nice addition or upgrade to the Amazon Echo Show ecosystem, whether you are a big fan and deep into smart operation of products/lights/switches etc, or if this is your first Amazon Echo product with a screen. You won't be disappointed.

    Great Entry Level Echo

The Echo Show 5 is now on its third iteration of Amazon’s smart home device, with incremental improvements to the smallest Echo with a display. The exterior looks cleaner and modern with the fabric covering the entire device, apart from the 5.5” touchscreen with rounded corners. Out of the box, setup was quick and easy with the option to provision the device on your phone by scanning a QR code or setup on device if you prefer. Though Amazon pushes their sidewalk program to generously share your internet with strangers during setup, it is optional. Standard privacy features include a mute button as well as a physical camera shutter. Although I do not have a 2nd generation device to compare with, Amazon claims the sound has been improved partially thanks to a slightly larger internal speaker. I found the sound to be clear and pronounced, with fairly decent sound when listening nearby. The petite device is also quite capable of higher volume than expected, making it easy to hear from across the room. Though you lose the depth of the sound when not in close proximity, this should not be a surprise considering the diminutive size. Fortunately, it’s small foot print affords versatility in placement and the design blends in to an extent. I found sound quality is best when the back of the speaker is close to a wall, allowing the audio to reflect off the surface. The 5.5” touch display is sharp and clear, though sometimes the interface can be a little laggy. the display is a also a fingerprint magnet, so probably best to interact with this device primarily through voice. The display is quite useful, from showing visual results when asking Alexa a question to displaying on-screen lyrics when playing music, it offers a nice visual interface to accompany the voice assistant. My family has been enjoying the “Price is Right” mini game, which would not be possible on an Echo without a display. The device can also be used to keep in touch with family members if you choose, allowing you to video call each other from compatible devices. For the size and price, the Echo Show 5 is a nice entry level device so long as you know it’s purpose. It will not fill your home with rich audio nor will it be the best device to watch videos on due to the size, but it offers a small, discrete smart home device that is capable of a large variety of tasks. I think it is a great device for kids, gift to a family member, or add to your home where you do not need a larger, more capable speaker or display.

Hello, Joewolf76. I am sorry to hear about the issue you are experiencing with your Amazon Echo Show 5. I have some recommendations to try and get the device working properly again. 1. Unplug the device from the power adapter and wait 20 seconds. Then, plug the device back in and see if the issue persists. 2. If a restart does not fix the device, I recommend factory resetting it to see if that solves the problem. You can factory reset the device by holding the mute and volume down buttons until you see the Amazon logo (about 15 seconds). If these steps do not help, and you are still having functionality issues, call Amazon customer service at 1-888-280-4331. They are available 24/7. I hope this information is helpful. Thank you! Great addition to any Alexa Echo house

If you're in the Amazon Echo/Alexa ecosystem, then this is an excellent addition to that. It is small which could be good or bad depending on what you need or want, but it has BIG sound and lots of great features. Starting with the size, the screen is about the size of a large cell phone - think iPhone 14 Pro Max size so I wouldn't recommend this if your main purpose or desire is a digital photo frame - that's not the main reason for this device. However, what is really super cool is that you can have this as your Echo/Alexa device that also dubs as a cool little photo frame clock. You can have it just be a photo frame and have it show photos from your Amazon Prime Photo Storage (you can pick any or all albums) OR you can set it up to be a Digital Clock Photo Frame with the same album options. AND you have many different styles of clocks to choose from so you can pick one that you like the best. There are also other options for the default screen such as showing weather, stock, latest news, Alexa tips, and much more and you can select what you want and have it scroll through those things. I myself prefer using as a Clock displaying my photos. Of course, like I said the main purpose of this is to use as an Alexa Echo device and it is really great for that. It can hear you easily from across the room. It has an amazingly loud and clear speaker (I have mine set to 50% and that is plenty loud enough). It not only answers you by voice but will display related content as well. It can stream any cameras you have connected to Alexa. It can be used for video chats via the built in camera and you can also set that camera up so that you can use it as a security camera to view what's happening in your house when you're away. There are buttons on top for changing the volume and turning off the mic, as well as a slide to block the camera for privacy/security if you want. Other settings are easily accessed by swiping down from the top. I have a ton of Alexa Echo devices in my house starting from the 1st generation to now and this is a definite asset to those. It looks great, doesn't take up a lot of space, sounds amazing, and has the benefit of the display!

The Echo Show 5 has been quite an entertainment at my house. It's so small compared to other smart displays I have seen lately, But I'm here for it. I love the small size because it can be easily put anywhere around your home. The 5.5’’ display is very bright and vibrant but again small. The customization is a great feature and allows you to display all your favorite photos from your phone so this little guy works as a digital picture frame. On the display you are able to see important news, weather and time. If you are an Amazon Prime member it's definitely a plus and you will be able to utilize the Echo Show more since you will be able to stream movies and listen to music ad free. You can still use these features but they are limited. You cannot use any other streaming services on this device which for me is a bummer. I tried to log in to Netflix, Hulu or Peacock and it did not work. I don’t really like the Amazon video content so I was a bit disappointed. As for Music I was able to sync in your Pandora and Iheart radio account since those are the ones I usually have in all my devices. The Speaker even though it is small, it sounds phenomenal without any distortion, also great for video calls. The controls on the top are pretty simple, just the up and down volume control and the microphone and camera shut off button. There is also a camera shutter. The Amazon Alexa app is a great addition to the Echo Show, It must be downloaded to be able to sync in your smart devices like cameras, smart light bulbs, irobot and other smart devices compatible to Alexa. The Echo Show also works as a camera so if you are away from home and need to check those at home this works as a indoor camera.“Hey Alexa” is just the beginning of the outstanding help this device offers. From setting alarms, helping you set a routine schedule from playing music and most of all helping you find the answer to that question you forgot to ask the teacher, this Echo Show has so much to offer. I'm beyond happy with it. It’s my personal assistant I need, without paying a million bucks.

We have several Echos through the house including the first original Echo still working great. In our bedroom we have the 1st gen Echo Show 5 in a nightstand, which we use as an alarm clock and picture frame among other Alexa functions, so took this opportunity to get this 3rd gen for the other nightstand. This is a significant redesign from previous versions. The shape is more triangular and rounded. The buttons are easier to reach and shaped like their function symbol: Plus and Minus for volume and mic off, so it's easier to use at night. The camera cover, like previous Echos physically covers the camera, which we always have covered. The screen has much more noticeable rounded edges. This looks attractive but when playing videos, this version of Echo shrinks the video with black bars on every edge, so one can see the full video, but makes the viewing area smaller. Thankfully, it doesn't do this with pictures. On the plus side, the screen is clearer, and it's much faster than previous generations. Also the applications (Skills) seem to be updated. For example, opening Prime Video looks more similar to the TV app than on the 1st gen. Audio has more bass, so it overall sounds better. I was planning on making both Echos a 'Stereo Pair' but one cannot pair a 1st gen with a 3rd gen. Perhaps because they don't quite sound the same, but disappointing regardless. Talking about sound, the previous generation has a 3.5mm audio output but this one does not. It does however support pairing Bluetooth speakers. To power the Echo, it comes with its own power brick which connects using a barrel connector recessed into the back of the Echo, so unfortunately it does not use standard USB-C ports to power it. To make it worse, our Back Echo 5 came with a white power cable, which looks quite odd. Overall, the screen makes for a much better Alexa experience and can also be used to display compatible cameras and make alexa-to-alexa video calls, it's touchscreen and many skills are just more convenient.

My first impression was how cute the Echo Show 5 is. The device is well-built and has some weight to it. I especially appreciate the fabric-covered speakers. Setting it up takes some time and many menus, but it’s worth not skipping any part of it. Even after finishing, I recommend going through the options once more for the best experience. Once all settings are in place, it’s all smooth from there. The operating system and interface are on the slow side and can be a bit clunky. There is some lag, especially when browsing the net, opening apps, and going through the store. Having said this, I don’t think this is its main purpose. The 5” display may be small, but it’s still well-lit and fairly sharp. Sure, I have to come closer if I am across the room, or if am watching content, like following a cooking tutorial in the kitchen (then I have to position it right in front of me). Having said that, the small screen is perfect for my office, and it’s quite portable. Like most Echo devices, the Show 5 picks up voice commands very well, even at decent distances. I particularly like that now I can see the answers, especially weather and traffic, on the screen. It also works great for lyrics while playing music. Speaking of music, I am very impressed with the sound quality. Sure, it may not beat a dedicated speaker, but the amount of bass such a small device delivers is quite a feat. Every music genre, podcast, or video content is pleasant to listen to. While there is some distortion at high volumes, there shouldn’t be a need to put it that high. Just in case you need a bigger sound, you can always pair the Show 5 to any Bluetooth speaker (or headset). The camera is decent as well. It covers a wide area and is clearer than expected. “Dropping” in on any household echo with a screen or contacting someone works very nicely. If you download the Alexa app, you can remotely use the device as a security camera. While I wouldn’t place a camera in certain places, it's good to know that the Show 5 has a camera privacy slider and a mic mute button. If there is anything to complain about, I’d say it would be the number of ads, suggestions, and “tips”, that keep displaying. Also, if you have multiple devices around the house, the Show 5 kept trying to respond to commands, which can be a bit annoying. The mic must be pretty sensitive as this does not happen with my other Echo devices. In the end, I am very much enjoying the Show 5. Sure, the screen may be on the tiny side, which may lead to buying a bigger device, but in places such as offices and small rooms, it is great. Plus, the sound may be its biggest selling point, and at the budget-friendly current price, it’s a great deal.

I'm on the Amazon echo-sphere. I have amazon shows and dots and ring cameras all over my house. Now, I know there might be better cameras and smart hubs out there but for me, I love the fact that all my products works seamlessly together and when a new product comes out, it also is a 2 minute set-up to work with everything else in my home. Well this new 3rd generation echo show 5 is a big improvement over the 2nd gen that is in my home currently. The form factor is a little different but not much. The shape is now "triangular" and not so square as before, The volume and mic buttons are much bigger and easier to locate by feel, especially because mine is located on the drawer next to my bed, I can just reach over in the dark and feel what is what. The charging port now is also dead center of the back of the unit and deeper in. I think this is to maybe hold it for secure but I also had to wiggle and force it in the first time. The reason you should buy this or upgrade from your current 2nd gen, is that it is noticeably faster. When i plugged both in at the same time, the gen 3 booted up so much faster. The screen is more responsive and app loads quicker. Also there is a big difference in sound quality. Now, on it's own, you probably would think the gen 2 is fine, but, side by side, the gen 3 is so much better. Sounds better and way more responsive. Definitely get the gen 3.

I recently had the pleasure of trying out the Amazon Echo Show 5 (3rd generation), and I must say it's an impressive smart display that offers a range of features in a compact size. First and foremost, the display quality of the Echo Show 5 is excellent. The 5.5-inch screen delivers vibrant colors and sharp details, making it perfect for watching videos, checking the weather, or even video calling. Despite its smaller size, the display remains clear and easy to read from various angles. The audio performance of the Echo Show 5 is surprisingly robust. The built-in speakers produce clear and well-balanced sound, whether I was listening to music, watching videos, or engaging in voice conversations. It's perfect for enjoying my favorite music streaming services or even using it as a smart alarm clock in the bedroom. One of the standout features of the Echo Show 5 is its integration with Alexa, Amazon's virtual assistant. The voice control capabilities are excellent, allowing me to perform a variety of tasks with simple voice commands. I could ask Alexa to play music, provide weather updates, set reminders, control compatible smart home devices, and much more. The voice recognition was accurate, and the response time was quick and seamless. The design of the Echo Show 5 is sleek and modern, making it a stylish addition to any room. Its compact size makes it easy to place on a bedside table, kitchen counter, or desk without taking up much space. The adjustable stand allows for flexibility in positioning the display at a comfortable viewing angle. I found the privacy features of the Echo Show 5 to be commendable. The device comes with a physical camera shutter and a microphone mute button, providing reassurance and control over privacy concerns. When not in use, I could easily cover the camera and mute the microphone with a simple touch. The Echo Show 5's compatibility with a wide range of smart home devices is another major advantage. I could use it to control my smart lights, thermostats, security cameras, and more, all from one central hub. The seamless integration made managing my smart home a breeze. Overall, I highly recommend the Amazon Echo Show 5 (3rd generation). Its impressive display, quality audio, intuitive voice control, sleek design, privacy features, and smart home compatibility make it a versatile and valuable addition to any household. Whether you're looking for a smart alarm clock, entertainment hub, or virtual assistant, the Echo Show 5 delivers on all fronts.
