Why Amazon would do this is crazy. I haven't set it up yet but I figure it sets up just like the other Echo(s) I have and have set up, which was fairly easy.

Thank you for sharing your feedback about the Echo Show 5. I'm sorry to hear that you're disappointed with the performance compared to your previous model – that's definitely not the experience we want you to have with an upgraded device.
I understand your frustration that Alexa isn't responding as well as it did on your older Echo Show 5. This is concerning since the newest model is designed with improved features including 2x the bass and clearer sound, which should enhance the overall experience including voice recognition. There are several factors that might be affecting Alexa's responsiveness:
Microphone sensitivity settings: Try going to Settings > Device Options > Alexa's Voice and adjusting the microphone sensitivity
Wake word detection: Ensure the wake word is set correctly and try speaking more directly toward the device
Placement: The device's microphone array works best when it's not placed too close to walls, in corners, or near other electronic devices that might cause interference
Software updates: Make sure your Echo Show 5 has the latest software by going to Settings > Device Options > Check for Software Updates
Factory reset: If the issue persists, a factory reset might resolve any configuration issues that occurred during initial setup
Since you purchased this just 3 days ago from Best Buy, I'd strongly encourage you to contact Amazon Customer Service at 1-800-280-4331. They can run diagnostics on your device remotely, help troubleshoot the responsiveness issues, and determine if there's a defect with your specific unit that warrants a replacement. You're well within the return window if you decide the new model isn't meeting your needs.
