Hello, JimG. I am sorry to hear about the experience you are having with the Echo Show 5. I have some recommendations to try and get the device working again. First, I recommend restarting the device. Unplug the power adapter from the device or outlet and wait 30 seconds. Plug the device back in and see if it turns on. If a restart doesn't get the device to power on, I recommend completing a factory reset. To complete a factory reset, you will want to press and hold the mute and volume down buttons until you see the Amazon logo appear on the screen. If these steps don't help and you're still experiencing this issue, I recommend reaching out to Amazon Customer Support 24/7 at 1-888-280-4331. I hope these steps are helpful. Have a great day! Compared this one with the previous generation might not seem a big change deal... but wait! The latest 3rd generation Echo Show seems to be smaller in size as the display is more vibrant. The microphones have improved from the last generation. Alexa can hear you now even when you have some other noises in the background. The old gen had issues when there is too much echo in the room. If you have decent internet connection, you will enjoy a very good video call quality. I love the drop in calling feature. I use it to check on my kids and sometimes elderly parents (when they don't answer the phone). The new 3rd gen Echo Show has the USB connector removed. It can be powered using the adapter provided with it. It might be a good decision... It would help preventing accessing the digital interior of the Echo. Setting it up was very easy... Connect it to your WiFi and then link it to your Amazon account. It will update with the latest OS release and re-start. After following the instruction, it is up and running. Easy. I am using the 5.5 inch Echo in my bedroom as a night stand display: Radio, alarm, weather... , and quick check on my cameras and door bell. I have another one with bigger screen in the living room that I use for more tasks like watching movies. By the way, Alexa sounds clearer with the 3rd Gen Show. Audio quality improved. My kids also noticed that. We also noticed an upgrade in computing speed and overall performance. On the not very good side, Amazon Echo Show 5 lacks supporting apps. Something like most Fire OS hold back... Not so bad but sometimes you wish you can do more with what you have instead of adding more devices for the extra task... WiFi range is good. BT pairing is also good with very good range. Integration with most other smart devices is nice and easy. You will notice that you do more voice controlling: Weather, Check Calendar, Play NPR, Set Temperature, Remind me, wake me up... etc. For kids, it is also a lot of fun with games and so on. Who needs Echo Show? Well, you have to always consider your privacy (if you have issues with that) and deal with such product the way it should be. Most of that is already, obviously, known... As your phone and just everything else are listening to you and "monitoring you", this one is no exception... Just think about it like that: Smart device with mic and camera that is always connected to the internet and that it could be hacked... Eventually.

Great choice for a smaller smart display

I am deeply entrenched in the Amazon Alexa universe, so when I saw this updated version of the Echo Show 5 (Gen 3) I had to have it! This thing is everything I would expect. Its small size is great for all the basics - seeing the time, the weather or automatically rotating photos from my Amazon photo library. It can also control most of the smart devices within my home. It can show me who’s at the front door from my smart camera doorbell when I ask, I can tell it to start my iRobot vacuum, turn on/off my smart lights, change the temperature on my smart thermostat, etc. I am constantly asking Alexa questions such as: how old is Aaron Rodgers, how many episodes are there in season 3 of the Kardashians, who won today’s Dodger game, what is the weather in Los Angeles tomorrow. I always use this for reminders and alarms - this is perfect for that: Alexa set a reminder for Wednesday at 3pm: water the lawn. Then Wednesday at 3pm it will tell me the reminder. There is so much more this can do! They claim there is improved bass with this model. Personally, I think at low volume the bass is overpowering - too much for me. At a higher volume, the base sounds much better & the sound is much more clear. This wouldn’t be my first choice for listening to music, but it is mega convenient to ask Alexa to play 70’s pop (my favorite) and she just does it. When cooking, or in the background… it sounds fine and is so convenient. This Echo Show 5 has a 2mp camera - you can make video calls to others with an Echo Show. With a 5.5” screen, this wouldn’t be my first choice for watching videos or streaming - it’s too small for that in my opinion. But from the Alexa app (which you need to set up with this device) you do have the ability to drop in on the room where your Echo Show is and if your camera is open, you can see and/or hear what’s happening within the camera’s field of view. You can have a video conversation with someone that way as well. Is this a privacy issue? I would say it is not because you decide to keep the camera open or closed with a manual slide. For verbal requests for linked smart devices and asking various questions about almost anything and limited music playing, this is a great assistant! There is just so much that this can do and for me, it makes life a little bit easier. I would absolutely recommend the Amazon Echo 5 (3rd Gen) to anyone looking to make their life a little bit easier!

I've gotten into the Amazon eco system a long time ago, deciding that it worked well considering the devices are typically easy to use, very useful and something that, well over time you just get used to using on a daily basis. The goal has always been to have a device of this nature in each and every room. One area in which I thought a screen might come in handy is the kitchen. I always wanted one of these types of devices to assist in hands free recipe creation. Opening up the box for the Echo Show 5 shows a simple debvice with a packaged cord and little else. If you've ever used one of these devices then they are very simple to set up. If you order from Amazon direct they are already configured when they arrive. This one was not configured of course but it was as easy as logging into your Amazon account (don't do like me and not know your password and have to reset it!) and then answering a series of questions about preferences. I was up and running in about 10 minutes. Be careful when you answer these questions though, some are to get free trials of Amazon products and you don't want to sign up for something that you are not aware of! Using the Echo Show was second nature if you have ever used any Alexa devices. The screen is beautiful and easy to see, even in sunlight so that is a nice feature. You can manually set the brightness and also set what shows on the Echo when not in use. I chose to display the seasonal pictures and they are quite beautiful. I have not used this for recipes but I'm confident this is exactly what I needed. I love Alexa and this is my first device with a screen. Note that the screen also functions as a camera if you desire it to. This makes it a good way to have a 2-way communication if you have two, either in the home or out of the home. This device is a really great product and I'd highly recommend it to all folks looking for a nice assistant with a screen.

The Amazon Echo show 5 (3rd Generation) is a small 5.5 inch smart display. I received my Echo Show 5 shortly after placing my order and was really surprised at the size of this unit. I don't know why I was surprised, My cell phone is a little over six inches, so I should have known what the show would look like. The size is compact, but the screen is surprisingly vivid and bright (if you want it to be). The sound, of course, isn't as loud and responsive as its larger cousin, but is very good for a device this size and with a speaker that can fit into this size of enclosure. Setup was as expected. Amazon and Alexa make setting up devices simple. I already have an Amazon account and several Amazon devices, so the setup process added the Echo show 5 to my existing ecosystem. And of course, this is an Amazon device, so you are prompted to sign up for Amazon music and other Amazon offerings, but skipping through the solicitations is simple. Setup, along with software updates, took about 15 minutes. You can make this device your own by changing some of the settings. I have allowed the Echo show to access my photos that are backed up on my Amazon account and use them as screen savers. All in all, there are many options you can choose that change how Alexa looks and acts. There is also a shutter to cover the camera and a button to deactivate the microphone to ensure you complete privacy from this device. If you are looking for an Alexa device with a small footprint that can do everything its bigger siblings can do, this is a great device.

    5.5" Amazon touchscreen display

Echo Show 5 is a nice addition to our Amazon Alexa devices. I have had other Echo devices, but never had an Echo Show device before. I have it in our kitchen and use it for playing music and I find myself just reading it when I am sitting in the kitchen. There are many other skills it can be used for. It is very attractive and has a nice screen. The screen does dim when there isn’t any activity around. When you are in the room, it seems to wake up and will display different things that it can do or will act as a screensaver and display different pictures along with the day, date and time. If you see things that you would like to use it for, you can set up skills to use the screen. If you have cameras, you can use it to display your camera output. I have Arlo and Wyze camera’s and both work with my Echo Show. I have a Nest doorbell and a Nest outdoor camera and there is a skill for the Nest doorbell and cameras too. The screen is a touchscreen and is very glossy. Fingerprints do show on it quite a bit, so if you tend to touch it, it will show fingerprints. If you control it with your voice, it does respond very well. The screen size is a 5.5” screen, so it is smaller than a lot of current cell phones, but larger than some of the older cell phones. For example, I have an iPhone 12 and it has a roughly 6” screen, so slightly smaller than my iPhone. If you are already an Amazon Alexa user, you will probably like the Echo Show 5.

This is best described as a small evolution from the previous Echo Show 5. It now has a rounded-corners screen, improved sound and better black levels. The updated screen is really the first thing you'll notice, although I consider this more of an aesthetic change than a functional one. But it looks good, and the rounded corners align to the overall shape of the device. It may be a strange thing to mention, but I also appreciate the updated power plug location. It's right in the center of the rear of the device. I dunno why, but it just seems better. Back to the screen, the main improvement I'm happy about is the black level. I think many people use the Echo Show 5 as a bedside clock. At night, the screen can be set to dim, but I always found the screen to still be a bit too bright - at least where it's supposed to be black. Amazon has definitely improved things with this generation. I wouldn't call it drastic, but it's definitely noticeably better. As for the sound - that's improved as well: I can hear clearer tones and maybe a tad bit more bass to it. With the improved touch responsiveness, sound and better screen black levels, this 3rd gen Echo Show is a great bedside companion.

This 3rd gen Echo Show 5 works very well just as expected. I was happy with the older Echo Show as well, but this one does seem to sound a bit clearer through the speaker and for people on the other end. We have a Ring home alarm system as well as a few Ring cameras so this Echo Show is really nice and easy to use with them. Not sure the entire list of security devices and cameras that are compatible though. We also have Amazon Prime so this is a nice speaker to have for listening to some tunes. To me, music sound quality was better than I expected. Really handy device, especially for communicating with some "older folks" on the other end for an easy setup and use for them.

    Buggy little bugger!

I will start by saying I used to own another smart display from the other leading maker of these and was always frustrated with it. I decided to give the Amazon one a try to see if I would have a better experience. Sadly, I found this one to also be a buggy little bugger as well! Setup is very simple. Once you turn it on, it will guide you through the setup process, get it linked to your Amazon account , and then download any updates that are available. Then I tried to do something simple light having the display show me the time and the weather forecast on the main screen so at a glance I could easily see the time or weather. Nope, cant do that. You can have it show a bunch of news and music and other things and eventually it will show the weather for a minute, but it cant just keep the forecast permanently on the screen. Next, I went to connect it to my security cameras I have around the house so I could look at them whenever I wanted to. I linked my account for my security system and at first, everything worked great. I could say Alexa, show me the backyard camera. And it would pull it up. Although after the first time I viewed it, I could never view it again. It kept saying to check the connection and wouldn’t show the camera. It did this with all 6 cameras on my property. So, I unlinked my system and re-linked it and the same thing happened. Worked great the first time I viewed it and then it would never work again. So, the 2 things I would really have liked to have done with this device couldn’t be done. I tried a few other things like playing music and watching YouTube videos and that worked pretty well. Although if you open a YouTube video it opens in a browser instead of just going full screen like you would expect. I will say that I am impressed with the sound quality that comes out of such a small device. This would be great for having some background music on. Overall I found the interface to be slow, very buggy, and almost impossible to customize to get it to do what you want. If you are looking for something to use as like an alarm clock or to play music or videos, I guess this would work. If you are looking for a UI that’s customizable to fit your exact needs. This wont do it!

Let me first say I am a tech geek. I have 4 Alexa pucks in my home, a smart monitor and a smart TV with Alexa built in. I would consider myself a power user. I have routines and mostly everything in the home is controlled by Alexa. I never thought I would need or want an Echo Show. I was very wrong. I am thoroughly enjoying the additional content provided by the screen. I have it in my office and it has enhanced my workspace. News scrolls by keeping me informed during the day without having to ask for updates. My Amazon photos cycle through, pictures I had forgotten about and some nice to see again. There are many settings easily navigated via on screen menus to tailor your Show to your interests. It starts out with almost everything turned on but I have limited my scope of interest. I like the one where it suggests new skills presenting you things you never thought to ask about. A built in feature lets you video call other Shows in your contacts. Nice to easily keep in touch with family and friends. When setting up the Show I ran through the narrated setup. I thought this odd since I recall when adding pucks it seemed to know my network and passwords. This one did not but the Show walked me through the entire setup with no confusion or issues. A non technical person would have no issue setting it up and getting it online. Of course it knew my skills but now with the video the answers are very much enhanced. For example when I ask “where’s my stuff “ it answers as normal but now I can see the items that are being delivered. When asking for stock quotes a graph is shown. I can go on but there is so much added content now I think I need a few more Shows. So I was skeptical about getting a show, now I am sorry I waited so long.

The Amazon Echo Show 5 is a fantastic smart device. For me, it makes for an amazing alarm clock. You can also easily check your security camera's, doorbell, etc. You also get Amazon order notifications. Heck, you can even watch movies on it if you really wanted to. The Echo show 5 is basically an Echo with a tablet screen. It even has a camera, so you can make video calls if that's your thing. I personally like that it has an option to disable the camera right on top of the Echo Show 5. Initial setup was fairly easy. I had a minor issue which required me to reset and re-run initial setup. The Echo Show 5 has surprisingly good sound for such a small device/speaker. One thing I didn't care for is all the "tips" and "recommendations" it was continuously pushing. I wanted to use this mainly as a clock, but all tips and recommendations minimize the clock into the upper left corner making it hard to see. Plus most of the recommendations were irrelevant in my case. I had to dig into the setting and disable just about everything except local news, and weather. It is very nice having Alexa available to me in this format. Once you get everything set to how you like it, it is definitely enjoyable to have and use. Likes: 1.) Good sound for it's size. 2.) Once setup. It's enjoyable to use 3.) I really enjoy the clock feature. Just makes sense Dislikes: 1.) Too many tips and recommendations set to on upon initial setup, making the clock barely visible most of the time 2.) Not a fan of the camera, but I understand it's purpose. Fortunately you can easily disable it 3.) I had to run the initial setup twice for some reason. Probably an isolated incident/issue on my end.

Amazon Echoes have been a part of my home environment since the original Tower. Now, from Dot 5th Gen to Echo 10, they are all over my house. The Echo 5 in my guest room is Gen 1 and works great; however, having the opportunity to review the Gen 3 was too tempting to pass. Though the screen size remains the same, the body is a bit taller and wider to accommodate new features. These include: • A larger speaker provides better clarity of voice and music, rivaling some of its siblings. Plus, music quality is enhanced by deeper bass tones. It truly sounds great. • An additional microphone improving Alexa’s ability to hear and respond to requests. • Processing power in Gen 3 is approximately 20% faster with Amazon’s new AZ2 Neural Edge processor. • Screen display has been improved, allowing better viewing at night. For accessing Alexa many features with a small footprint, the upgraded 5 Gen 3 is an excellent choice. The small price difference is well worth it for the large performance difference.
