Let me first say I am a tech geek. I have 4 Alexa pucks in my home, a smart monitor and a smart TV with Alexa built in. I would consider myself a power user. I have routines and mostly everything in the home is controlled by Alexa. I never thought I would need or want an Echo Show. I was very wrong. I am thoroughly enjoying the additional content provided by the screen. I have it in my office and it has enhanced my workspace. News scrolls by keeping me informed during the day without having to ask for updates. My Amazon photos cycle through, pictures I had forgotten about and some nice to see again. There are many settings easily navigated via on screen menus to tailor your Show to your interests. It starts out with almost everything turned on but I have limited my scope of interest. I like the one where it suggests new skills presenting you things you never thought to ask about. A built in feature lets you video call other Shows in your contacts. Nice to easily keep in touch with family and friends. When setting up the Show I ran through the narrated setup. I thought this odd since I recall when adding pucks it seemed to know my network and passwords. This one did not but the Show walked me through the entire setup with no confusion or issues. A non technical person would have no issue setting it up and getting it online. Of course it knew my skills but now with the video the answers are very much enhanced. For example when I ask “where’s my stuff “ it answers as normal but now I can see the items that are being delivered. When asking for stock quotes a graph is shown. I can go on but there is so much added content now I think I need a few more Shows. So I was skeptical about getting a show, now I am sorry I waited so long.

I purchased this echo show 5 as a gift. I had previously purchased one for myself. The sound quality is good and it is pretty easy to set up. You can view videos on it , get the latest news, weather and listen to your favorite music. There are a host of skills you can download and use. I recommend you buy this product as it can do more than you know.

The Amazon Echo Show 5 is a fantastic smart device. For me, it makes for an amazing alarm clock. You can also easily check your security camera's, doorbell, etc. You also get Amazon order notifications. Heck, you can even watch movies on it if you really wanted to. The Echo show 5 is basically an Echo with a tablet screen. It even has a camera, so you can make video calls if that's your thing. I personally like that it has an option to disable the camera right on top of the Echo Show 5. Initial setup was fairly easy. I had a minor issue which required me to reset and re-run initial setup. The Echo Show 5 has surprisingly good sound for such a small device/speaker. One thing I didn't care for is all the "tips" and "recommendations" it was continuously pushing. I wanted to use this mainly as a clock, but all tips and recommendations minimize the clock into the upper left corner making it hard to see. Plus most of the recommendations were irrelevant in my case. I had to dig into the setting and disable just about everything except local news, and weather. It is very nice having Alexa available to me in this format. Once you get everything set to how you like it, it is definitely enjoyable to have and use. Likes: 1.) Good sound for it's size. 2.) Once setup. It's enjoyable to use 3.) I really enjoy the clock feature. Just makes sense Dislikes: 1.) Too many tips and recommendations set to on upon initial setup, making the clock barely visible most of the time 2.) Not a fan of the camera, but I understand it's purpose. Fortunately you can easily disable it 3.) I had to run the initial setup twice for some reason. Probably an isolated incident/issue on my end.

    Bigger and So Much Better

Amazon Echoes have been a part of my home environment since the original Tower. Now, from Dot 5th Gen to Echo 10, they are all over my house. The Echo 5 in my guest room is Gen 1 and works great; however, having the opportunity to review the Gen 3 was too tempting to pass. Though the screen size remains the same, the body is a bit taller and wider to accommodate new features. These include: • A larger speaker provides better clarity of voice and music, rivaling some of its siblings. Plus, music quality is enhanced by deeper bass tones. It truly sounds great. • An additional microphone improving Alexa’s ability to hear and respond to requests. • Processing power in Gen 3 is approximately 20% faster with Amazon’s new AZ2 Neural Edge processor. • Screen display has been improved, allowing better viewing at night. For accessing Alexa many features with a small footprint, the upgraded 5 Gen 3 is an excellent choice. The small price difference is well worth it for the large performance difference.

Amazon Echo Show 5 I picked up this Amazon Echo Show 5 at my son’s request, he’s 15 now and felt he was too old for his Yoda alarm clock any longer. He wanted a “modern” alarm clock. I’m ok with putting it in his bedroom since this unit has a privacy shutter for the camera and a physical switch to mute the microphone. He mostly uses it as just an alarm clock, he has found it’s quite easy to set his wake up alarms since you can specify whether you want the alarm every day, every weekday, or just weekends. Pretty handy there! He also likes that the display auto dims in low light so it’s not blinding but it needs a fair amount of light in the room to brighten, he has to have the lamp on the nightstand on because the ceiling light alone won’t do it. I didn’t care for how hard Amazon pushes advertising and “tips” on the device. It took a few minutes going thru menus with him and turning off all that stuff. He has a digital camera now so he’s looking to add pics to it. The voice activation works perfectly, but I have him leave the mic off most of the time. The alarm is plenty loud if needed, and you can change the alarm sound if you’d like.

This size was perfect it isn’t bulky & I was able to sit in on my tv stand without a problem. I was amazed the pic is very clear. I love it! Technology has definitely come a long way & it’s hard to find good quality at reasonable prices. I rate it 5 star.

    Good sound, laggy OS

This Echo Show has very nice sound. That's probably the highlight of it at first glance. The Operating System was quite a bit laggy from setup. The touch screen was not very responsive and I had to reboot it several times. After rebooting, set up was fairly straightforward and intuitive. If you had a previous version of the Echo, the viewing angle of this one is more upright. That means that if you have it on places below you, it will just be a bit harder to see . Screen quality is good and the buttons on top are good. The power adapter plugs in directly behind the Echo Show so you can't put it directly against a wall. Interestingly enough, it is precisely in front of a wall that this device shines. The sound reverberates through the room and makes it sound bigger than it actually is. The sound is also crisp and undistorted. The microphone is also sensitive and often picks up my commands to a different show in a different room. Overall, if you're used to Amazon's Echo devices, this one won't be too much different but the laggy OS leaves room for improvement.

Easy to set up and use after watching the YouTube video. Alexa app is needed on other devices to help set it up. Netflix is no longer available on it. The Echo Show 5 has a lot of functions and is a great product.

Awful device, I kept seeing good reviews and wondered what I was doing wrong, turns out Gen 3 is a horrible. Incredible laggy, no widgets, extremely hard to work with. The speakers sound great, but it's not worth the extremely slow OS. Go Google, don't waste your money.

Ok screen but still ends up used as a speaker

Did you ever wish your Echo speaker had a screen? Well, this is effectively that. A combination of the echo + screen. Now, to be fair, it has a bit more capability than that. But with the screen size, it's unlikely that you'd really be using it to visualize much beyond album graphics and weather. Let me explain. First, this is the Amazon Echo Show 5. It's the 3rd generation of the device and actually has a bigger screen than the name implies, 5.5 inches instead of 5. On paper, that seems decent. A bit smaller than a lot of flagship cell phones but right around the size for many others. It's natively an Echo device, playing music, giving you direct access to the Alexa assistant and controls over your home devices. Plus the additional functionality of being able to play Prime and Netflix videos in addition to giving you graphic/video results to queries. Given that we already do a lot of this stuff on our phones, it would be nice having a standalone device in the home that can do this too right? From an echo speaker point of view, the show is great. It sounds great - as good as my full size Echo speaker. Seems just as responsive and able to hear me from across the room. It potentially has a leg up on the drop in feature in Echo devices - it can do video calls with a 2MP camera. However, all of this functionality turned out to not really get used because I still needed to place this in roughly the same place that used to host an Echo speaker. And because of that, the screen is often not accessible (it replaced the kitchen speaker). Because it's in the kitchen, it's not a great place to do video calls (who wants to crowd around the microwave) and effectively only adults would be visible. It needs to sit flat so can't really be placed somewhere so one could watch a video while cooking or doing meal prep (kitchen assistant seemed one of the strongest use cases to me). The most consistent thing I used the screen to do was to glance at album art, view song lyrics in real-time, and the most exciting - see a visualization of weather which likely due to years of watching the weather report on the news, is still the most satisfying and immediately impactful way for me to get a good sense of what the day will be like. Yes, it plays videos. And while the screen density isn't as great as most similarly sized smartphones, it's still decent. But the video playback quickly became a gimmick that only surfaces when new people see it for the first time. Dropping in doesn't seem to have the weird too loud volume issue that affects my normal echo speakers, but I'm not sure that's a good enough feature right now to be worth replacing all my echo speakers with echo shows. And given that most of the time, the screen would be unused, it jus doesn't seem worthwhile anyway. The screen can also play video from other Amazon devices like a doorbell. I don't have one of those and I think perhaps that would be the thing that would make the show worthwhile for me - having one by the bed and in some rooms where I could conveniently interact with a doorbell without needing to find my phone if it wasn't on me or I didn't want to break away from something else I was doing would be clutch. The amount of times visitors have come by and we've not noticed due to things being hectic is annoying. However, absent some very specific use cases, it seems this form factor just isn't that great for a screen based device. The ideal would be either a bigger screen, which forces it to take center stage on a table rather than dropping into a convenient open spot or a tablet form factor with a battery where you can just attach it to a surface like a fridge or cabinet. Then it's more likely you can place it arbitrarily in a location where you'd utilize the screen to help facilitate or make chores more enjoyable beyond playing music in the background.
