But the endless advertisements and suggestions are annoying. “No, Alexa, I dont want you to create a routine that dims my lights to 18% at 4 pm on Tuesdays. Just play the song I asked for.” The Home screen content also gets adjusted by Amazon on a regular basis. I find myself going into settings at least once every few weeks to turn off the latest advertizing cr@p they’ve added. I have the content setup the way i want it. Why does amazon keep changing it? Ultimately, the true purpose of these devices is to get you to buy more things from Amazon. The rest of their functionality is there to keep you interested enough to put up with the ads. The Google devices seem to be a little less mercenary.

Posted .Hello Pete and thank you so much for your feedback of our Echo Show 8! While it does sound like you are at least enjoying much of the functionality and are happy for the specific purposes you bought this device for, I can understand your concerns with the advertising content and suggestions. They are 2 different topics, however so I would like to help address them separately. The suggestions are a part of the learning format and functionality of Alexa. There are a number of things that Alexa can do that we have found most customers are unaware of or how to properly create the routine being suggested. These suggestions allow those customers to take advantage of a quick and simple response of Yes or No to ignore or enable that routine without having to dive deeper into the Routines feature on the device. Many people do not know that these devices can do so much more than "playing music, checking the weather, getting the latest news, answering random questions..." and we have found this opens up the customer to a whole world of smart home possibilities. As for the advertising, the settings should not revert once you have selected the content you want but can sometimes be fixed by a reboot. If you press and hold the Mute button until it brings up the option for Power Off and tap that then it will power down. Once powered down, press and hold the Mute button again until you see the Amazon logo then release it then it will power back up with the proper settings again. If that doesn't work or if it happens many times, then you can contact Amazon Customer Support at 888.280.4331 for further assistance. I hope this helps some and thanks again for your feedback!
