My only caveat is that you can’t program it for weekday vs weekend alarms (as far as I know.) otherwise it does everything I want and more.

I'm sorry to hear the microphone responsiveness isn't meeting your expectations compared to your Echo Dot. Here are some troubleshooting steps that may help: ensure your Echo Spot has a strong internet connection, restart the device by unplugging it for 30 seconds, check that the microphone isn't muted, ensure the device isn't near sources of interference like TVs or speakers, and try retraining Alexa to recognize your voice through the Alexa app under Settings > Your Profile > Voice.
