Poor as a kids e-reader, completely useless tablet

We bought it with the intention of it being an e-reader for our son that also might run a few educational apps. Very quickly we realized that the apps were bogging it down and causing problems so it is now strictly an e-reader and barely one at that. It worked well for the first few months but after two or three OS updates, it now struggles to open books and crashes constantly. It also refuses to stay connected to wifi when it goes into sleep mode. We mainly chose this because of the ability to make a kids profile that I can control from the amazon dashboard and that works well but the fire does not. Unfortunately Amazon will not accept it as a trade in device so I will hold onto it until then.

Also too many Amazon apps loaded on tablet when received. How do you delete and free up space?Everything about tablet appear to be targeted toward making money for Amazon.
