Wonderful thing to have!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased two of these around a year or so ago, I was given an older kindle fire when my iPod touch broke and fell in love with it! They are easy to use and navigate, simple layout, and sleek design. I loved it so much I ended up buying this newer (at the time) fire 7s for each of my kids, ages 5 and 7, and they probably know how to work it better then me some days (I'm mainly an apple user myself). Plus you can set them so the internet will turn off at a specific time every night and to turn back on at a set time in the morning, and you can also set it to turn into a night shade mode at set times making it so when my kids want to read before bed the kindles screen will adjust to a shade that doesn't stop their eyes from thinking it's night time which would normally cause them to not be able to get sleepy like it would do if the screens were in the normal viewing mode that most electronics are in all the time so I can relax a little knowing my kids reading at night isn't going to disrupt their sleep patterns. They can also use them for internet research, YouTube viewing, social media (if they were old enough), can take pics and record videos, video chat with their grandma, and the typical reading books, although my 5 year old who is about to start kindergarten cant quite read on his own yet but with an app that came on his kindle fire all he has to do is touch the words and it'll read it for him so he is learning more words all the time :-) I'm planning on buying the newer kindle fire with the 8" HD display soon, either tonight or tomorrow lol, as well since my sons kindle that he has had for around a year now got into an accident and needs to be replaced so I can't wait to find out how well this newer HD screen does and will write a review once I know how well we like it. I would, and do, recommend this item to my friends and family!

OK for the price, poor speaker placement
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I think $50 is fair for this tablet but paying additional money for a case or stand for it makes it not worth the price in my opinion. This is truly a budget tablet but it feels like to really get the most out of the audio you have to add an accessory to compensate for the poor placement of the speaker (on the back of the device). This is a tablet which is designed for media consumption from Amazon (i.e. Amazon wants you to buy this entry-level tablet to use with your Prime membership, giving you access to music and video). When it is resting on a table (there is no built-in stand), the speaker is on the bottom of the device against the table and it makes it very hard to hear the audio. Maybe the speaker could be placed on the side instead? That being said, the Amazon app store is actually pretty good. Most of the streaming apps I was looking for were there and worked flawlessly once installed. The ads on the lock screen aren't too annoying and it is nice having the SD slot to load videos onto. I actually like how the display is *not* HD (easier on the eyes). I think most people will probably end up getting a case or stand (or use headphones)...if you are in this category, YES I recommend this product to you but otherwise I do not. I brought mine back and bought a Chromebook instead.
I would recommend this to a friend
