Kindle Fire HD6
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For a long time I was all about iPad this and iPad that. But when I bought a Kindle as a gift for one of my nephews, I tried it out and was hooked. Great durability, user friendly, kid friendly and great battery life.

Great for it's price point

Big Mistake
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The only thing I like about this tablet is FreeTime for kids. Other than that, this tablet is crud. You can't add more memory. If the memory is low, the wi-fi connection turns off. Something that is NOT indicated in the description of this tablet.

Very Erratic and random operation
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've used this for about 4 hours now. The difficulty started when I was trying to register it. When I would tap a key I noticed that several keys where depressing as well. So I would tap one key and get 3-7 different letters show up. Once I finally got it registered the Fire would just randomly open apps with no effort on my part. 3 times the screen went black and would not respond to anything. I would have to press and hold the power button until it would restart. I see so many positive reviews, I'm assuming I just got a bad unit. I will return and try another one.

Don't buy if you want to use Google Play
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It already runs android which is fine but it's a proprietary Amazon version of android. That, in a nutshell, sums up why I'm not an android fan. Manufacturers can modify it to meet their needs. This, in turn, locks you out of the Google Play store. Granted there are ways to get around it, you shouldn't have to do that. My son got a gift that required an app from the google play store and to our dismay this thing wouldn't even run it. There are plenty of popular apps in the amazon app store but if I'm owning an android based tablet I want the full suite of apps available. Another note, we're all primarily Microsoft/Xbox in the house so this sort of device really sticks out like a sore thumb. Going to return and try to find a tablet in the same range with standard Android. Heck, there are tablets that run full Win 8.1 out there. Load blue stacks and you have access to x86, Modern AND Google Play apps. Loved this thing at first but the more we played with it the more we got frustrated. If you're an Amazon person (Amazon Prime and such) and just want it for casual surfing, reading, movies. It's fine. Otherwise, go a different route.

Not a happy Mom!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this on sale for Christmas for my daughter(9 yo). First of all I have owned many 'other brand' tablets. This one is by far the hardest to use. Totally not user friendly! Next- which infuriates me, is that I have to PAY $15 to get rid of the homepage ads #I have to pay Amazon#! ???? Yes, seriously! I have to pay $15 to get rid of ads I don't want my daughter to see. So yes, the money I saved on the sale price I will then in turn spend on getting rid of the ads! I wanted this tablet for my daughter for the parental controls and the Freetime App! I am completely discouraged that this tablet has the capabilities of being a great kid tablet but then has ads you have to pay to get rid of so your kid#s# don't see them! All I got to say is....I'm seriously one unhappy mother!!

Amazon Should Stick to Selling Books
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This purchase was my first tablet. If I ever make another tablet purchase it also will be my first tablet because this Kindle Fire HD 6 went back to the retail store. Maybe it works as to Amazon's standards but I have no idea. I could not get it to do anything useful at all. The only "instructions" that you get in the package is a single card that says "Turn on your Fire HD 6 by pressing the power button located on the top" and then "Unlock the screen by pressing and dragging the lock icon to the left side of the screen." And that, like they say, is all folks! You're on your own. I spent hours with this without any satisfaction. I could do nothing. If the Amazon programmers' goals were to make a device impossible to deal with, their objectives have been met. This thing is so worthless in terms of trying to figure out how it is supposed to work that I spent most of my time sitting at my real computer typing something like "Kindle Fire HD6 How do I (fill in the blank)" into Google to see if I could figure out how to get from here to there. On many screen displays there is a Question Mark which I presume means "help". I could use my finger on the Question Mark and never got the Kindle to respond. There is Amazon's Silk Browser icon that appears a lot too. I could use my finger on it all day and it never responded. Never. In fact, at least half of the displayed icons on every screen actually had no response associated with them at all. By sliding my finger this way and that and touching my finger here and there I found a "user guide" and a tutorial. Yup, you guessed. I could touch my finger on them all day and they never responded. If I ever make a tablet purchase again, it will be from a company that provides resources to make the buyer/user successful. Amazon is not that company. They should stick to mailing books.
