Not an iPad but at this price, great!

Okay; we know this is not an iPad so the horsepower is limited but at the $80 price point ($50 on sale as I write this and as I purchased it), it's a fantastic bargain. Don't let any reviews here claim that you can't run most Android apps (including the Google Play Store and its apps!). You just have to be a little crafty. Follow the instructions here: http://saintlad.com/install-google-play-store-on-kindle-fire/ ...and in 15 minutes, I had the Play Store, Play Books (which means all of the books I had uploaded there now were available on the Kindle). Sure, you can use Amazon's services—Kindle books, videos, buying stuff on Amazon—but you don't -have- to. Note that this unit has the lockscreen ads which, frankly, you see only for 2 seconds before you unlock it; so don't waste your money thinking you have to pay more for the non-ad version. Web surfing isn't as fast as on my iPad but it's fine, really. (And I'm a Mac person.)

Don’t be fooled by the HD name. I tried downloading the YouTube app and it looks like it can’t get a solid connection even though it’s on my 5 GHZ channel. I originally bought this as a cheap way out of any mid range Samsung tablet because I had seen reviews praising this thing. As someone who only wanted a tablet as a video device let me say this, don’t buy this product. There are better devices such as the galaxy tab a 10.1 that will make you question why it’s only $250. Yes this tablet is $80, but it’s not all it’s hyped up to be. One last thing, why charge $2.99 for subway surfers? The AppStore is horrible compared to android and iOS.

Great tablet for the money. Very powerful processor, and it feels very solid and very well made. I wish the display was a little brighter, even turned up all the way, but it does the job just fine.

Battery life is good. Sound is not great compared to HD 10 version. But not bad (acceptable). Worth for the money paid. Budget tablet. Google play installation was easy.

What's the point if you can't download it?

The Amazon Fire 8 HD is sold bundled with an internet security download. Problem is "it's not available for download on this device." If you by chance need 6 months worth of protection software for your desktop or laptop, then maybe you'll be satisfied. Otherwise, even the developer states it no longer supports that bundled product.

Pathetic and horrible support from Geek Squad

This review is more on the Geek Squad Protection service and not on the product. I contacted numerous times to numerous channels and raised my grievances but they somehow suppressed and concealed it. So I am taking this forum to raise my voice: I purchased Amazon Fire HD Tab from Best Buy 45 days ago..suddenly that stopped working since yesterday morning..I visited Best Buy Woodland Hills, Topanga Canyon Store yesterday to get possible support..I had purchased geek squad protection plan along with it, so when I reported problem, he agreed to order for a replacement but that would cost my protection plan and my plan will end yesterday with that replacement order.. so for the new tab, I am on my own if that face any issue even on the next day..But when I mentioned, its only 2 months old and for first 6 months I should be able to get manufacturer warranty and afterthat Best Buy protection plan should kicks in and that's why people purchase protection plan for longer duration benefit..So, that guy said, Best Buy does not have any contractual collaboration with Amazon, so any issue with their device, they can not help, only they can order a replacement with the cost of protection plan.. I countered by saying, had I not purchased protection plan that time, and I have similar issues after 45 days of purchase, then what will best buy do at that moment? Best Buy still should be liable and assist me while I ran issues with a product purchased from them and that too only 2 months ago... the guy said, it's not necessary Best Buy will stand always.and asked me to contact Amazon by myself.. I asked Amazon customer service contact number and he did not able to give that even ... and he tried to miscommunicate and convey misleading information. that guy named RAY PAUL from Geek Squad Woodland Hills, CA store Order Number: BBY01-805510542974

Please do not buy these fire tablets without insurance otherwise you are throwing money out of the window. Bought the kids edition and and the fire 8 for my kids for Christmas and We started having changing issues 4 months out. Unfortunately, i did not buy insurance on them because the insurance fee was almost the cost of buying but i so wish i had bought insurance now as both tablets are useless now.

I always get a pop up saying I need to install amazon on my tablet to open apps. How crazy is that it's an Amazon fire with amazon built in.
