Bought this for my parents as they have an aging 3rd Generation FireHD. That tablet cost well over $300 dollars but was limited to fireOS 4. I couldn't believe that their newest only cost $50 on sale with ads. I don't think it is worth it at their normal price of $80 dollars. FireOS 5 is pretty much just a skinned version of Android Lolipop. Since we are on Nougat now, they are about two years behind. Hopefully security updates are still being made for the device. The biggest disappointment was the screen. If you buy this for reading books, they really need to go back to the old 3/4 Gen HD Fire Tablets, as their screens are so much better. They claim IPS on this screen, but I don't buy it. Colors are washed out and pixel density is pretty poor. The blue light filter they have is pretty terrible compared to what Apple offers. It basically puts a semitransparent color over the entire screen. If something on the screen is already black, why does it need to look blackish orange? I don't fully fault amazon as this may be more of a limitation of Android, but still... Also I can't figure out how to get rid of the adds for the red version. In the past there was an option to pay a few extra dollars and they remove the promotion. Amazon's website doesn't offer the red without adds as of this writing, but they do with the black. Side load google play store for more up to date apps as a lot of the amazon store apps are long out of date.

It's lite it's small and it's easy readi no matter where you are. Great for that late night reading in bed, also great if you're in a restaurant.

This little tablet can surf the web, read and send email, view and download pictures & video from your camera and keep up with all of the current social media sites. Great for home & travel and free Kindle books! Cannot beat the price!!!

I had also bought the amazon fire 10" pad at the same time, I use the smaller one because it fits in the hand better. after using it for a while I purchase 3 more 8" pads for gifts. the 10" pad has a better screen display and sound (another good unit for the price)

I am so happy I bought this. Just enough for surfing and reading. Took it on vacation. Nice to be able to check on things and to get info on the area you are visiting without having to take a laptop. Best purchase. Great price.

The Amazon Fire has a great screen size and is a good tablet. It has all the normal kindle reader features. The battery life is good.

I tried this tablet because it was on sale for black Friday. I usually use android devices. The tablet is ok, but I still prefer an android device. I am not able to download some apps that are on Google play store bc they are not compatible with fire system.

Good one for the price, but it could have been thinner. Even though the display is called HD display, I did not get the feel of it. My old Nexus device appeared better in that aspect, though smaller in real estate. When compared to Android, checking all the installed apps is not that easy. Audio also could have been better. The etching at the back of the device is rough and you get a feel of certain cheap make when your hand slides over that area. I am yet to explore all the apps that are available for Kindle. If you are looking for a very good quality product, look for apple products, or Samsung, but if you are ok with a reasonable one that can cater to your basic needs, for a fair price, this may be the one.

Amazing tablet for the price. Very responsive and it does not slow down like other android tablets I've had. Highly recommended.

I bought this tablet as Christmas present for my mom. As I mentioned in other review my mom has a way to accidentally break things. I believe I've bought about 10 laptops/notebooks in the past 5 years. Meanwhile I still have the same one and only. Back to the tablet. It was a bit difficult for her to get used to it. But eventually she got the hang of it and it's by far the most resistant of its predecessors. My mom uses it mostly for Facebook, videos and ebooks. All I one, good deal.

1st Fire tablet. The color and screen are nice and bright. The ability to set the turn on time for night screen is nice. Miss not having some of the true Android apps like Firefox . May be the learning curve but the Silk browser header is always in the way.

So glad I chose to buy this Kindie on BF. It is still a great price regardless for such a quality product. Made well, feels solid not cheap and chency. I love the blue that I got as well as the other color selections. Great job!

Strong amount of features and very fast. Easy to use tablet that my daughter is really enjoying.

I have had older Fire Tablets. Each generation keeps getting better. This one is decently fast and has a good screen.

A great inexpensive tablet. I purchased one for a friend for her first tablet. I then went back and got another for myself when I saw that the display is more than adequate and the speakers are loud. Really good for the price.

I have bought these before with half the storage cap. and twice the price. Now they are cheaper and better. Highly recommend.

I wanted to see if this compares to the Samsung and Apple Tabs and it passes with flying colors. I prefer the Android platform and find that the Amazon Fire hold its own. You also get a big bonus of having Alexa as a standard part of this Amazon Fire.

Great tablet for the price, even better when you get the full android experience. The RAM does limit it's usefullness. Too many tabs opened in Chrome will cause crashes. I mainly use it as a Moon Reader Plus reader so it's not really an issue for me.

All I have used are iPads, but I really just used them to read, and this was a much smarter purchase for an electronic book. Everything is in a weird place for an ipad person, but I’m working on it. If you’re new to kindle, the best piece of advice I’ve gotten was, ‘If you’re totally messed up and don’t know what you did, keep hitting that circle at the bottom of the screen until something looks familiar.’ So far, so good. I like how small it is and it slides easily into my bag. I wish the font size had more choices, but I am enjoying this purchase.
