It's fast on the web. It's light, compact, and easily portable. It's affordable and reliable and can be expanded for memory. It does everything I need and want. It's the best buy for a web tablet and it's quick. I love mine.

I have used a Kindle and Kindle Fire since they first came out and prefer them over a laptop or phone for searching ang playing games. They are the perfect size and are capable of much more than you can imagine. They have the capability of a full computer with excel, word, etc., installed with camera, an assortment of games, face time, skype, phone, etc. Once you use, you will definitely be impressed with the capability. This is my 3rd one and the durability is amazing.

We caved out of pure exhaustion and purchased Our 10 yr old son who just had to have it because its soooo unfair that other kids his age have iPhones and iPads, mac books, Nintendo switch, ps4, xbox one, etc and he doesn't and like who doesn't buy their kids items that cost 100s of dollars, like totally! So we are the absolute worst most uncool parents ever because he didnt have such luxuries. So we got him this. Keeps him busy and I won cool points . TADA!!

Wanted a table that would allow a specific third party software to run. Also required a specific fit. My 7 inch kindle fire was a little small and my 10 inch kindle fire was way to big. This is exactly what I required.

When I first picked this up I thought it would be kind of cheaply made but it's not there very nicely engineered, not slow at all for performance not too bad unless you want to do heavy-duty gaming but who does heavy duty Android gaming? (Half the Android Universe? Lol, no) Runs YouTube nicely, my only real caveat, (and it is a prett big one) is you cannot access the Google play store, since in it it's an Amazon product they want to require you to use the Amazon app store alone for your Android shopping needs, but unfortunately I don't think I've ever seen anything on the Amazon app store that the Google Play store didn't have and there's plenty that the Amazon app store doesn't have that's on the play store, but there are workarounds for this on the internet which you can find Natalie on the internet, though I don't think you should have to... biggest thing I would mention and it is a really really big one because this is a tablet and not like a big hefty notebook or laptop it's bound to get broken sooner or later somewhere, somehow. ALWAYS get the Best Buy protection plan - it's always worth it eight or nine months in with my red one and somebody leaned on it with their hand and cracked the screen. ;( Best Buy replaced it with a brand new one, no-questions-asked, thanks to the (IMHO) very worthy $20 protection plan I purchased. They're always great service for that. Didn't get "Red" but - ce' la vie...

Good products good price but with disappointments

First, the positive side. I purchased a Samsung tab A 8" before this one more than twice the price, I was nearly shocked it was not HD and has only ONE speaker with small sound, not even mention stereo. That's most important yet basic for a tablet to read, watch, and listen. Only camera is better and you get Google play store. But who really use tablet camera at home? Smart phones have much better camera now. Amazon app store is OK for me to live with. Of course I returned Samsung tab and bought this one for less than half the price with HD display and two speakers of stereo sound. I almost feel people are fooled to buy into Samsung's name. And even gave high ratings! I assume they never used HD display and two speaker stereo sound. Given above said of products and price, still there are a lot of disappointments. Especially because I have a Fire HD 7" used more than 5-6 years. Now let's go to negative side. In general, the new HD 8" tab has no any improvements from my many year old HD 7". With some features only stayed same while a lot even getting worse except screen is bigger. More details here compare my HD 7": What remain same, CPU, RAM, Storage. Display about same but brightness is lower have to adjust to high end for a new tablet. Touch screen is dull less responsive, you have to TAP rather than TOUCH, bit annoying. Although still has two speakers stereo, but sound is too small low volume have to adjust to high end. Very small round holes at speaker opening instead of longer opening on my HD 7" which sound is much louder and full only used half volume for watching movies has more room if I want to listen music. I was actually quite amazed so small speakers can play such loud and beautiful music. The cameras are poorer even though I don't need to use. Still 2mp front and rear are too low now a days. 2mp front and 5 rear are minimal I think as was HD 7". Typing gets more difficult because keyboard not respond to touch but TAP little harder. One big very useful feature is missing, my HD 7" has voice input for typing ten times faster but I can't find it on new HD 8". I remember Fire tab said can cast Youtube only to smart TV but I am unable to link up to my TV. Not sure if they dropped it. One thing still same but I hope can change. It's more convenient and handy to recharge the tablet from bottom when you hold tablet upright instead from top port. Maybe more not in my mind right now. Many people might never use Fire HD 7" before to fully understand my comments above. For this price and products, I really can't complain. On the other hand, it is a pity and regret that new HD 8" is not even keep up same quality level as HD 7" many years ago. Let alone upgrade. I wish Amazon will see/ read my review. I was more satisfied and amazed of my many year old HD 7".

Amazon's parental controls are the BEST I've seen

This latest release of the Amazon tablet is a perfect tablet for kids, or really anyone who needs a basic tablet for light entertainment. We bought two for our kids for the holidays this year along with protective cases. They love them for the games, books, videos, etc., and to have a tablet they can call their own. As parents we love them for two reasons--1) the price just can't be beat. It's a solid tablet, and does enough to keep our kids entertained when we need them to be. The thing that sets this tablet apart from any other tablet on the market for kids is Amazon's parental controls. They are the best that I've seen (and we've tried several other kids tablets) and Amazon is constantly updating them and making improvements. You can log in at any time from a computer or phone, and control each child's individual account from your Amazon account. You control the apps available, the books available, the videos available, the amount of time they can use the tablet on any given day, etc. You can even shut it down from wherever you are!!! Amazon has clearly put a lot of thought into the parental controls available. The biggest drawback to the tablet is that this is the second one we've had to buy for one of our kids due to the terrible charging port. We've told our kids we have to be the ones that plug it in, but it will still break (I've had these awful ports on my samsung phones before the fantastic redesign on the S9)--they just aren't durable and the metal tab will break. If you can get a few years out of it before that happens then you'll be getting your money's worth. The good thing is Amazon saves the account information so if you get a replacement or an upgrade you can set it up just like the original. Overall I highly recommend this, EXPECIALLY for parents that want to have some control over their children's online life.

The Fire HD 8 tablet is a no-brainer for the price. Obviously, you can buy better performing tablets at a premium, but if you just need something for casual reading, mobile gaming, browsing, etc., Then this is the tablet to get. if you wanted a larger one, you can go for the 10 inch tablet, but I wouldn't recommend anything below the HD 8 because of performance and build quality reasons.

I bought the FireHD8 in yellow ( 2018) to replace an old iPad Mini v1. I have grown tired of Apple and love my HD10, so.... I paid $60 but then $15 after to remove the ads from the lock screen. They didn't bother me much, but prefer it without them. The tablet is responsive and the screen is sharp, though the HD10 is far better in speed and screen clarity. The 8" excels at being easy to hold. It's much lighter than the 10. Works like a charm for YouTube, mail and general browsing. I am looking forward to the 9th gen....an HD10 in the HD8 size would be perfect. I don't miss my old iPad at all. Recommended.

Bought on a Black Friday deal, this tablet from Amazon is exactly what you might expect from a cheap piece of such hardware: it has its flaws, but you can't get much better for that price. First of all, you need to know that this tablet has Amazon's version of Android, which does not come with Google Play Store and a few other services from that vendor. While you can find most apps on Amazon App Store, it is sometimes quite inconvenient to manually install apps from .apk files (you never know what's inside them) and a "hack-install" of Google Services and Play Store can sometimes cause a headache. The screen quality is decent. It isn't FHD and the image is not nearly as crisp as in an iPad Pro or Galaxy Tab S3, but again - you pay only a percentage of the price of those two. It's acceptable... unless you intend to work in direct sunlight a lot. In that case - consider a more expensive alternative. The Amazon Tab 8 has only 1.5GB of RAM and a relatively weak processor, which makes it a rather slow tablet... and it feels. Don't expect it to be an F1 car... rather an old diesel-powered family mobile... which can get annoying. Overall... it has a lot of flaws, most of which its slow operation is the worst in my opinion, but there's not much to choose from in the price range it was on Black Friday...

Bought 2 of these warlocks right before Christmas when they went on sale and gave them out as gifts to the parents. So far they love them, the size is just right and perfect for watching any streaming service you use. The reading aspect is awesome and with the SD card slot option, the memory is endless. Remember this isn't a Ipad or Surface competitor. For what this tablet does and the price it sits, you can do no wrong.

If you do a bit of research and know what to expect (there are enforced adverts which you have the option of removing at a cost & out-of-the-box it's not part of the regular Android app ecosystem) it's potentially a bargain. I use it exclusively for reading pdfs in Airplane Mode to save power. Battery life is brilliant - when left in standby the battery drops only around 1% per day. In use, maybe 5% for an hour of reading. It's light and a great size for holding in one hand. The screen is "good enough": it's not going to impress your friends and family, but it is perfectly fine for reading small text. It's not terribly bright, so if you're planning to use it for watching videos outdoors you might want to check one out in-store before buying. It can also be a bit sluggish switching between apps - if this was my smartphone being used for everything it would be very frustrating. For a single-purpose device (just for reading or watching videos) where you're not switching between apps or typing much, I think it's totally acceptable. The alternative of an iPad mini would probably do everything faster, with a nicer, brighter screen, but at around ten times the price I would be too scared of breaking it or losing it to ever take it out of the house. Instead, I throw the Fire tablet in my backpack with no case and use it all the time. If it ever breaks, I'll just get another. Totally worth it!

I got this Kindle FIre 8 HD to replace a Fire 7. I was curious how much difference the larger screen size actually seems. Even though it is only one inch difference, it seems a lot more. It is quick and easy to use for reading email, looking a facebook, or watching on-line videos. The screen is very high resolution and has really vivid colors for watching videos. I can watch and listen to sports out in the garage or wherever, too. Also, it is easy to setup for other wireless networks, too. Very please, especailly since I purchased on sale from Best Buy for only $49! Well worth it. Hope it will last a long time. For my purposes, a lot better value than an iPad, especially since I can easily and cheaply add additional memory using a micro SDcard.
