This is a great starter tablet for kids. Easy control of the content they can use and powerful enough to be a good back-up of your own tablet.

I got a Kindle Fire because I needed an e-reader with expandable memory that could work with Calibre and it fits the bill perfectly. The Fire is easy to use, intuitive, not too harsh on battery, and comfortable to hold. My only beef is that, despite the tablet running Android, Amazon tries to force you to use its Silk browser. You can download Chrome and Google Play via a work around, but you cannot stay logged into them, which defeats the purpose. Thankfully, I bought this more for books than to use as a tablet. IF you want a giant, adaptable e-reader, this is a great choice. IF you strictly want to use a tablet, just shell out the extra money for a real one.

For the price, this has been a very useful tablet; the screen size is large enough for viewing of media and text. I like being to access email and social network items here more than on my phone because of the 8" display on the Fire. Access to instructions and trouble shooting mostly involves my searching through internet chat rooms; I suspect the Fire can do more than I'm asking it to. Updates sometimes have taken a bit of re-learning. This version has ads, but that hasn't been a problem.

I bought this tablet to have for the grandchildren and to test several Amazon features. It is thicker and heavier than my Samsung S3 8", but is fairly responsive. I added a 64 gb microsd card configured as internal memory. I have been able to add a lot of content to this device and even configured it for multiple users. That being said, it is still limited by the Amazon infrastructure. I was able to add the Google Play store so I could get additional apps that were not available from Amazon. So far I am very pleased with the purchase.

Love my new kindle tablet. I have other tablets and devices but I bought this one mostly for books. I read a lot and when I’m busy cooking dinner and doing housework this tablet will read you the book. It’s called text to speech I think. It’s not as good as an audio book but it’s a great feature when you’re really into a book and have to get other things done. That feature only works on the kindle devices. I’ve tried other ones and it doesn’t work. It’s a good quality tablet at a great price point.

I bought this because my job requires a ton of .pdf reading and annotation -- a laptop just isn't ideal for this. The Kindle Fire is much, much better. If you do plan to use it as kind of an e-reader, I'd highly recommend getting a handle or grip for it since its thin design--while nice in that it keeps the tablet from getting heavy--can really fatigue your thumb and palms after a few hours of use. Certainly there are better, more powerful tablets out there, but if you just need an entry-level tablet for a simple task like this, you really can't go wrong with a cheap Fire.

The fire 8 has twice as much storage so Iam able to add more apps more music more of everything. I can also read or play longer due to better battery.

It's decently quick and the battery lasts a surprisingly long time under normal use. "Bedtime" mode is especially nice as it takes the blue light out of the display so that it a) doesn't mess up your sleep and b) doesn't affect your night vision as much. The display looks good when streaming movies and when reading books or magazines. Has some great features like the ability to download movies / shows to watch later. The only downside is that it doesn't come with Google Play Store or any of the Google apps, however, those can be sideloaded without much difficulty.

I bought this on sale for $49. Even at full price, this is a great deal. This has all the functions of a tablet and an Amazon Echo in one. I have a few of these now - one a t work, one in my kitchen, one in my home office. It's nice to walk in a room, and if I want to listen to music, I can just ask Alexa. If I want a recipe, I can either ask Alexa and/or look it up on the tablet. If I want to check email or surf the web.... It is a great all in one.

I had a 3rd. Generation 7in. Fire Kindle. Nothing came with it and it had limited functions. I can print from my new 8in. Fire, e-mail is easier to manage and the screen is elongated and larger. It came with a charger and some instructions. It was easier to set up, maybe because it recognized me as a previous Fire Kindle owner. All my apps, books, games and other info automatically transferred to my new Fire. I'm thoroughly satisfied with this product so far. I'm still learning the many new functions. I've owned it one month.
