This was our first Fire tablet, we are used to Android and found the Fire OS to be just awful. Where you get tons of freedom to set a device up to your every whim with regular old Android, Amazon seems to have taken and stripped every bit of that freedom and put the "Fire" branding on it. Performance of the device is great and the value for your money in the hardware is great. But the restricted and stripped down OS makes the device a major dissappointment. I would not recommend if you're the type of person that likes to customize your device in any way at all... Maybe that isn't fair, as I think it will let you use your own background image?? lol. But no, if you want to install a custom launcher or just remove stuff off the screen you dont want, or use custom widgets... You're pretty much SoL with this thing. I mean, I'm pretty sure stock iOS gives you more freedom, and that's saying something.
