You are required to install you adult profile on the table even if you never plan to use any of your adult apps. To access wifi or authorize downloads you must switch to the adult profile rather than just having a password required. If I had it to do over, I would probably not buy an Amazon tablet. On the positive side the table does feel sturdy and does have a nice, easy to see display.

It's a totally different platform from anything else though so it takes some getting used to. It's hard to switch from PC to this so if you have a PC (or MAC) it might be frustrating having to switch your brain to deal with this device. It seems very limited on what you can do with this device. I assume it's because Amazon is controlling the access but I don't know. I think we would be much better off with an iPad or any other PC based tablet.

This device does run on a Fire OS system which is a little different than other devices and we have our own Amazon Appstore as opposed to other app stores across the other brands. The Amazon Kids app, parental controls through the use of the Parent Dashboard, free bumper case, and 2 year worry free guarantee while also being lower cost than many of the options you listed makes this a tremendous value.
