It required multiple restarts to get it to act right. After i got it to where it seemed like it was working properly, we gave it to my kid and i haven't seen it since.

Spending a bit more for an older iPad is better

The iPad seems to be best and locking the screen so your kids can't get into other things as much easier on the iPad
