Regarding battery life, the Fire HD 8 is rated for up to 13 hours of use under typical conditions. However, higher screen brightness and active audio playback will drain the battery faster, especially during car or airplane trips. To help extend battery life, you can lower the screen brightness, use headphones instead of the built-in speaker, and close unused apps running in the background. As you mentioned, keeping a car charger or power bank handy for longer trips is a great solution as well.
