Great Tablet for Kids and Adults

I am giving this tablet 4 of 5 stars because it is so Amazon-centric. This tablet has been my go to tablet as gifts to one or more of my 7 grandchildren over the past two Christmases. The tablet allows you to read e-books, play games, education and fun stuff as well. The pricing is great each year with Amazon dropping the price to $49.00 and all. I am a Information Technology OG since the 70's and a straight up MS and Android guy so I was skeptical because this is kind of a proprietary tablet with Amazon tilted features and bloatware plus .apk files available via Amazon only instead of straight android files from GOOGLE Play. I also did not like the fact that you have to side-load 4 files to install GOOGLE Play to get more options for apps. All that aside it was worth the work and this is a durable and dependable tablet. I love the color keyed silicon rubber bumper case as I bought one for a 4 year old who is know to throw things. So far he has not destroyed the tablet. Works well on mine and my various family members home wi-fi networks. One other factor that usually turns people off from this tablet is everyone thinks you have to enter your credit card info for this tablet to function. Not so fast. There are several work arounds. Just GOOGLE "how to set up Amazon Fire without a credit card." I have a Prime account so it does not phase me but it does aggravate some folks. If you order a lot or even occasionally off the Amazon site then you want to set up a credit card or log in using your Prime account. If not you can disable the tablet from accessing the account or credit card if a child is using it. Be advised that you can ask Alexa to do stuff with this tablet. So this is a blessing and a curse. If you set the tablet up for a child make sure you set it up so they don't order anything accidentally. If the tablet is an adult tablet just know you can control your smart home devices that are Alexa compatible with the tablet. "Alexa, turn on the living room lights." I would say before you buy this tablet please speak with your Best Buy Geek Squad and ask questions. If you're uncomfortable with tech or simply do not wish to go through the iterations to set this tablet up then buy a straight android or iPad tablet which will cost more but won't always give you headaches.

Runs Slow and charger ports go out quickly

I bought two of these for my kids. The concept of how much content that is available is amazing, but the downfall is how slow this device actually runs. Obviously, it doesn’t offer much space so the kids keep downloading things because the interface allows a view of all available apps and there is constant queuing. I even put memory cards in them but it didn’t help with the speed. Second issue, the charger ports are absolute crap. It’s a kids tablet so you would think it would be durable for kids plugging it in. Not the case at all. I would have to tell the kids to have me plug it in because it wouldn’t say they are charging because of the port issue. I didn’t allow them to play it while it was plugged in or anything like that. I’m one of those parents that give my kids a certain amount of time on the tablets and then collect them and plug all of them in at the same time. I don’t understand how my phone port is plugged in and out all day long and yes, cords go out.. but not the port. At least not like this! I tried calling geek squad and repair shops around the Tulsa area and it cost $59 To repair the charger port. I had a few people even tell me it would be a better value to just buy a new tablet. That’s ridiculous. If your gonna sell a product, why can’t you repair it for a reasonable price Best Buy? Beyond irritated with the entire situation and I will not be purchasing this item again. If anyone purchases this it will not last longer than your amazon free time subscription.

Parents! Are you tired of your phone or tablet being commandeered by drooling sticky handed bandits? Are you done with your apps and photos disappearing after a 40 minute Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Appisode binge? Are you fed up with cracked and damaged phones by no fault of your own? Well, let me tell you about the Fire 7 Kids Edition Tablet! At 1/7th the cost of an iPad and Lifeproof case, you can prevent your phone from becoming a $700 sticky cracked brick. The Fire 7 is your affordable answer. At just under $100, for the 16GB model, you can entertain your child for up to 8 hours. However, our professional toddler testing center has seen times closer to 6 hours in real world testing. Additionally, the charging time is a little slow; taking a few hours to charge fully. However, no child needs to spend 6 straight hours looking at a screen. The weight is lite, and with the case, it can withstand most drops from toddler height. We have only had it for a week, but our team of toddler researchers will continue to test to bring you the best insight to this device.

Nice Tablet - no google apps

Overall this is a very nice tablet for the price. It comes with a protective shell cover so that if it is dropped by a child, it will likely not break. The shell cover comes in blue, yellow and pink. I bought the pink one for my 3 year old daughter. Thinking that this is a true android tablet, I assumed it would have Youtube and Youtube Kids on it. But, I soon discovered that this tablet does not have anything on it dealing with Google. My daughter loves Youtube kids, so this was not going to work for us. I googled the issue and found out that Amazon and Google are engaged in a fight and as a result no Google products exist on Amazon products. Clearly without Youtube kids, this tablet was going to be useless to us. So, I quickly went back to BB and returned it for the Samsung kids tab E.

I was looking for a tablet that was good for a 2 year old that wasn’t super expensive & this one was perfect! The parental controls on this tablet is AMAZING. I am able to control the age range for content displayed on his profile & can set specific times to turn off, set times for books, videos & more! It comes with many features that puts me in complete control. He is not able to download or have access to any unwanted content so I have no worries as a parent. The case to it is working great, no screen cracks at all & he drops it constantly. The best part is that he enjoys it. He gets on Nickelodeon & ABC Mouse, both APPS I downloaded onto his profile, & he is completely entertained. Because my son is only 2, the screen gets dirty often which makes the screen unable to respond to touch too well but that is expected & fixed the second I wipe off the messy screen. The battery life is okay but well worth the money! Also, you can have your own profile & use it as well to do pretty much any other $500 tablet can do. Great buy!

I purchased this item for my 2 yr old to start learning. The first device I had loaded up for set up quickly and then everything on the device was so slow my daughter had no interest in it. Kids dont have patience. Also several apps you would start and it would shut down. So we exchanged for another of the same thinking we had a bad one. The second one took much longer for set up and updates. Once open it was still pretty slow and apps still shutting off. After much frustration for my child I took it back and simply replaced with a regular Samsung Tablet and downloaded the Freetime App used for the device and it's much better. Based on my experience with the Kindle Fire and the Freetime App I would not recommend the Kindle but just buy a Samsung and download the Freetime app. The only difference is you download everything from the Google play store instead.

This tablet is supposed to be for kids, and includes 10s of 1000's of free content and included memberships for children, good luck finding any of it or your children being even remotely interested in the content that they cannot find instead of the 100s of other products that they must first navigate through before even hoping to reach any included content or apps, oh yes and it all requires additional purchase, I'm software engineer, a resonably intellegent adult and unable to find the same included app twice in a row and most times give up searching for one long before finding anything. The only available view is Amazon Store, there is not default Android home screen ONLY the STORE, to entice your children annoy you with constant begging to buy something else...

I don't usually write reviews but I'm super impressed with this product I just had to share for those in question. I have 5 kids and have been through more tablets than I can count! I bought this for my 3 year old and was worried about the stability of this product as she is very rough (has a tendency to throw things, etc). This tablet is by far the best tablet I've purchased and is worth every penny!! Believe it or not the case provides considerable protection. She's thrown it, stepped on it, etc and it is still going strong. It's very kid friendly and easy to use plus it comes with a years subscription to endless kid appropriate games and videos from the Disney channel. She absolutely loves it!! Nothing negative to report. I'd buy all over again in a heartbeat!! Greatttttt product!! Well worth it!!

The tablet is ok, the case is fine but the kids mode is not so kid friendly, i have to constantly help her figure out how to navigate the menu that is too cluttered and confusing for her, there is no browser to get youtube, they offer some youtube videos but after they end it goes back to the menu and she gets stuck, not great for in the car....you cannot search any videos except what they offer. Its ok, but next time i will just get an android tablet that i can use thier kids mode and the actual youtube app, i regret this purchase and think the samsung tab lite is far superior to the kindle fire for kids. Oh and this tablet is very slow and screen is low def, its probably only worth 50 bucks tops. Do some reserch first its not the best option.

Bought this because of a cross country trip my family and I went on. Would highly recommend so far hasn't broken from my 15 month old using it and even if she did there is a warranty to replace it if it breaks within two years from the date of purchase so that gives me ease of mind. Comes preloaded with kid friendly apps and gives you parental control to give or restrict access to apps or whatever not much of an issue for me as my daughter is to young to use the tablet without a little help in the first place, but I do know parental controls are there. Although it is technically android it does not come with the play store if you are familiar with that, you can get the play store on it just google how. 4 out of 5 because of lack of google apps I like amazon but I like my Google as well.

First, the included apps and feature that is free for the first two years along with a warranty that if my 3 year old, which was my intended target of this particular device, breaks it, they will fix it, you cant go wrong. Now, it is great for my 3 year old. Not so much for me. For the price, you get what you pay for. Its slow, crappy, and total garbage for any use beyond what my three year old use it for. But she loves it. And that is all that matter. So, would I recommend it? Yes, IF you are buying it for a child under the age of so-so. No, IF you are buying it for either an adult or a teenager. There are better tablets out there for that group. But if you ARE buying for a child, I promise you, you will get your money worth and they, and you, will be very happy with the device and its features.

We bought this before a trip to Disneyland in which we would be flying for our 2 year old, so we could load it with kids shows, and puzzles and educational games to keep him occupied on the airplane, and it works great, it's your standard android tablet with a nice hard rubber/foam case around it to help protect it from what children do best, Drop Things. Our 2 year old has only had it for a few weeks, but it's survived thus far, and honestly, worth the admission price for a solid small size android tablet. You can designate adult and child accounts, so child accounts cant do what an adult account can do, etc. Battery life is pretty great on it as well.

This is a decent option for young kids that you might be looking for their first tablet. Amazon does a good job creating an interface that you can control what your child has access to, but beware of the "FreeTime" setup as this is a pay-to-subscribe service they very quietly force you to sign up for as a "first year free" promotion. My young child will probably destroy this tablet by time I need to buy something better, so I'm not too worried about the cons of this budget device. It would be great if there was a way to lock the screen into a specific app/video so that when they touch the screen it doesn't jump out of the app. I can recommend this product as a budget tablet for kids.

I did alot of research n read reviews on different tablets, this one thankfully had the most good reviews and was on sale (that was a bonus). I loved that it came with the protector on it which my son has dropped n during a tantrum has thrown & no damage to (till he stepped on & it cracked) but other than that we love it. I have my own settings on it to watch netflix or youtube, and when my son is on it i switch it to his acct which is parental control wish it would let him watch netflix thru his side but other than that he was easily able to learn how to get his games, books etc that are on it. My sister loved it and bought one for her step daughter whos 2 and she loves it as well.

I bought this for my Grandson’s 3rd Birthday. Whenever we go out to eat as a family, there were often times where someone would have to give up their phone so he could be entertained until the food came. Now we don’t have to worry about our expensive phones being dropped, spilled on or locked out. He loves his tablet and we love that it came with a protective kid cover. It also has age appropriate apps on it, along with educational items. He even knows to charge it every night before bed. He understands he is only allotted a certain amount of time per day. It is his favorite birthday present (and I think his Mommy and Daddy’s too).

The tablets are great, but the 2 year warranty with no questions asked - not so much!!!! Since I bought 2 of these for my grandsons, the first one has a cracked glass, and after numerous questions on how it happened, I can't get my warranty cause my daughter can't remember her email from 13 months ago that she used when she registered it under her name!!! So even though I have the receipt and can prove that it is still under warranty, Amazon will do nothing to fix or replace it!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a bunch of BS! I'm a prime member too, and do a lot of business with Amazon!!! Not anymore

We got this tablet for my son for Christmas thinking that it would be better than his old android tablet. Man were we wrong. It looks great but the functionality just doesn’t exist. It took forever to start up (at this point I’m still holding out hope because most things start up slow) but then he downloaded a couple of games and they wouldn’t open. If they did open (which was rare, even for the pre-downloaded ones) it took AT LEAST 45 seconds (we counted). It was very aggravating for my son to not even get to play with his new toy because it wasn’t working so we took it back and got him something else.

Looking for my daughter a great gift for her b day so me and my wife decided to go with this wonderful tablet..first I'll like to start off by saying it comes with preloaded games, videos, activities etc. that is appropriate for my daughters age group which is like 4-7 year olds, it also comes with a pink stylish and very durable case that I'm pretty happy to have which makes it a plus against it being dropped or anything..for it being only a hundred bucks and coming with all the bells and whistles a children's tablet could have ...me and the wifey are definitely HAPPY with this purchase.

The Fire 7' is a good tablet. The screen is good for the price and purpose. The case (blue/pink) is made of a rubber like material and protects it really well against drops. My kid has dropped this on tile and cement sidewalks and no damage was done. This device does not have Google apps loaded so you will have to get online and search how to load YouTube Kids, Play Store, etc. onto this app. The Amazon kids app is OK but YouTube Kids and YouTube offers a lot more content and the apps are easier to navigate. Would recommend if you are looking for a starter tablet or something for long road trips and entertainment.

Bought this for my two year old who would not leave our phones alone and it has been a LIFESAVER. Amazon Freetime is a great addition, and I like the parental controls. Unfortunately the screen got cracked (even with the bumper on!) after a drop and I am currently working with Amazon customer service on resolving the issue. It is under a warranty that spans two years, and from my understanding, the drop is covered. The have been great in helping us resolve or issue. I only rated four stars because it can be laggy, but it is nothing that my two year old will care about. I’m overall satisfied with my purchase!
