I purchased the kindle fire, kids edition after much research for tablets for children. My son is 2yrs. He is well versed with my phone, tablet and computers, which is why I felt that for my sanity, it was time to get him one of his own. I also wanted something that was educational and that could help develop and reinforce skills that my wife and I were teaching him. The kindle fire was perfect. We set him up with play-time. It has all sorts of learning tools and educational tv shows that he loves. Play-time comes free for a year and there is also a 2yr warranty that says amazon will replace the kindle if it is broken. I have a lot of confidence in this product and would recommend it to parents as a great learning tool for there kids.

Great tablet for the price for young or old. Provides very good parental controls, and allows you to set up multiple profiles in detail. For the cost, it functions just as well as much more expensive tablets.

I bought this for my 2 sons that always use and kill the battery on my device. It's definitely durable and has lots of options and content. I love the control that I have as a parent over the device itself.

This is an excellent tablet for young kids. We bought it for our 18 month old daughter to watch shows and play some games. The case is great, she drops it on our wood floor all the time and it survives. If you have amazon prime the access to content makes this worthwhile. Being able to download shows for her to watch in the car or somewhere without wifi is convenient. I plan to purchase a micro sd card to expand the storage capacity.
The screen resolution isn't very good, but most videos don't look too bad. The screen gets dirty easily and requires a damp cloth to clean fully.
This isn't a $300 - $400 iPad Mini, it's a $40-$50 tablet. You get what you pay for, it's an inexpensive tablet with a kid friendly case, so you have to keep perspective. Also it comes with a two year accidents and spills warranty from Amazon, so you have some piece of mind if you child does damage it.
The ability to limit screen time and limit the content your child has access to is nice. Being able to create child specific profiles and control them from a parent profile will come in handy.
I recommend this tablet for young children. The $50 Fire tablet is available for adults and if you want one, understand that it's a low end device and don't expect it to be comparable to a $300 to $500 iPad or higher quality Android tablet.

Nothing spectacular as far as performance, but for the price it's hard to argue the value. Case is comfy and lots of games and books to choose from.

This product was very easy to set up. My 5 year old was very excited about getting a tablet of his own. However, once it was set up, I discovered the section for under 10 years old is meant for younger than 5. The downloadable game and book options were all too young for him. The storage capacity of these tablets is also poor. Only a few games can be downloaded at a time. To download new games and books means deleting the old ones.

Overall this is great device. I recommend buying a micro SD card before setting it up. The minute you start downloading applications they will install to internal storage. 8gb already has 4gb for the android Operating System. This leads to a few games and a movie before you are out of storage. A 64gb card can really go a long way and the price still makes this the cheapest tablet in its class. The parental controls are a bit buried in the settings page. I would recommend researching limiting application purchases and in app purchases prior to releasing this to your child. This can be done despite many searches stating it is not possible. It is in this version and update of the tablet.
The parent restrictions to content rating is top notch to keep your kids off of even the Internet if you choose. You can even reduce the ability to the camera to avoid storage filling up quickly.
The bad.
You can't download your own movie collection without some savy work and third party apps. It is not super hard but requires some research.
You will not have access to youtube for kids and the appstore. This cuts down some favorites from standard android tablets and ipads. The content is amazing but horrible to search.

I bought this for my preschooler and its perfect for her. The charge life isn't very long though, and it could be because we don't completely shut it down when she's done. We were going to just buy her the less expensive one that's only 49.99 but it's totally worth the extra $30! The case is great and it has a great no questions asked warranty with it and a free year of free time. The free time Israeli is worth it.

We bought this for our 5 year old daughter about a year ago. So far, it has been a great tablet. I highly recommend subscribing to Kindle FreeTime if you have younger children. It makes apps/videos/books much easier to find and manage without too much parental oversight.
Pros:
* Great overall value.
* Bumper case provides excellent durability. Our child's tablet regularly gets dropped, thrown, struck, etc... and it's still fine.
* Kindle FreeTime is fantastic for younger kids.
* Battery life is pretty solid.
Cons;
* Only 8GB of internal storage. Yes, you can add an SD card for additional storage, but not all apps can run directly from the SD card. So if you allow your kid(s) to freely install apps (a la Kindle FreeTime), you will most likely run into storage limits at some point. This is easily addressed by removing infrequently used apps, but be ready for tantrums about a non-working tablet.
* Performance/stability. You can't/shouldn't expect too much from a $50 tablet, but you may find the tablet needs regular rebooting in order to maintain usability.

I really like the FreeTime app. It's restricts the kids from browsing the web and only allowing them to play with pre-selected books/apps/videos. It has enough parental controls to let the parents choose additional content to that the kids are allowed to use. For instance, Candy Crush is not a game for kids by default in FreeTime, so I downloaded it with the parent's account, added it as an additional app for the kids to use in FreeTime and then the kids can install it on their account. While that's nice, it isn't without quirks. I assumed that once the parents loads an app and makes it available to the child, the child's account just loads the game from the local storage, it seems that the kids account downloads and installs a separate copy. So be ready to pick up a microSD card to allow more content. Several of the children's books have very small print and it's not easy to enlarge the print. Finally, the battery life seems a little short. None of these quirks will prevent me from picking up another one down the road.

I really like the Amazon kindle fire for kids. It's intuitive enough for my 5 year old son to use. Prior to this, he's only used my iPad. I have a few complaints with this: 1) it only comes with 8GB of memory, 3 of which is used by the system (so you really only have 5GB). My son downloaded a number of apps which filled the memory to capacity in the first day of use. 2) When the system is out of memory, wifi is disabled, which is about the dumbest "feature" I've ever seen. Given Amazon is stealing nearly half of the advertised storage capacity, one would think they would have built in a little space to buffer wifi streams.
All in all, once you plug in a micro SD card (I added a 128GB one) things improve. Of course that was another $50 but you can get a smaller, cheaper one.
I do like the tablet and, chiefly, I get my iPad back now. :-)

Got this for my 3 yr old and he loves it. He can watch kids videos, play apps, and activities just for kids. Battery life is ok not like the iPad though. Also got parent setting so that way you can set up restriction for the little ones. Comes with 2 yrs replacement warranty no questions ask.
