    Bookworm’s Delight

I’ve owned Kindles before, many years ago. Ultimately gave them away to friends and family as I got out of the habit of reading as much. Wow the technology has improved! If you’re reading this review you clearly understand any e-ink reader a tablet is not. I am blown away by the Oasis 3 (2019). For someone who reads and really, really loves reading, if you’re okay with the price tag this device occupies a space someplace between superb and sublime. I probably spent four weeks researching this device, trying to justify buying another device just for reading. Then I read a recent NYT article “Yes, I’m telling you to buy another device to help cut down on your screen time and focus on reading.” Guess what? Totally true for me. If I read on my iPhone (and it would be the same if I had an iPad—or sub Android equivalents if that’s your jam), I would invariably be as distracted as I am trying to write this review—multiple text messages, emails, and OMG a weather alert because it’s starting to rain outside. Stop the presses! Stop enjoying the wonder that is a great book! Stop and attend to anything other than being present in this moment of being a bookworm! And the screen. I had forgotten what an absolute pleasure it is to read e-ink. And WOW the sharpness and PPI has improved and with the warm light settings it is like reading an actual text book visually. The ambient light sensors are great. And not having to use an external light source to read? Magical. Immersive. Physical buttons for page turns? Love. Little bulk on the one side housing the battery and CPU to make it easy to hold? Love. Auto-rotation when I switch hands? Love. Size? Love (they say size doesn’t matter... the extra inch matters). The weight in the hand? Beyond love. It’s not only lighter than my iPhone, the weight balance is like something Elves crafted in Middle Earth that was then forged by Dwarfs. Pure perfection. Complaints? Okay, I do get that as some have observed, the wonderfully soft to hold aluminum body can get warm if sitting outside in the summer in direct sunlight for an hour. Don’t tell my dermatologist. Shhh. But as soon as it’s in the shade for 5 minutes, you’re back to normal. Same goes for colder weather. It can get a little cool to the touch. Not like an icicle, but you’ll notice it for a few minutes until it’s absorbed a little body heat from your hand. Battery life? Well, it’s like 10,000,000x longer than an iPhone or iPad. Do you have to charge it? Yeah. Is it more than once a week under HEAVY use (3-4 hours per day), NO! And it takes very little time to charge. Are we talking about truly ridiculous “problems” at this point? YES. I ultimately got an Amazon fabric case which eliminates all of those issues. Though I will confess the case is more for protecting the Oasis when I’m traveling with it in a bag or backpack. While the case is light and sturdy, it adds just enough heft that I tend to pop it out of the case when I’m really tucking in to a book for a good long read. Again. It feels like I’m holding AIR. I am not about to diss those Elves and Dwarfs from Middle Earth on their craftsmanship. Is it expensive? Yeah. It is. Is it worth it? Yeah. It is. If you’re still reading this review, you are probably more than a casual reader. Think about all of the hours you’ll spend savoring reading and then divide those hours spent in a year into the cost of this device. I’m now reading about two books per week. Actual books. Not short news articles on my iPhone. 400 page books. About things I enjoy. I feel like I’m reclaimed my right to read. In large part, a direct function of how easy it is to read content on the Oasis (the antithesis of eye strain on an OLED or LED panel) coupled with NO DISTRACTIONS from the device. No notifications. No random thoughts driving me to check the internet. No temptation to endlessly scroll... whatever. Wait? What was I looking at? Why? And books. Yeah. That means even more $ for Amazon since those books ain’t free. Y’know what? If you love to read and are even looking at an Oasis, you already know that. Simply put, it’s a wonder and a joy and the current pinnacle of the true, pure reading experience. p.s. 8 GB is more than adequate—save yourself a little cash. Then you can spend it on a case, or removing special offers (though if you ask Amazon *ahem* “nicely” *ahem* they will do this for free).

I upgraded from the previous version paperwhite ( Which i was very happy with). I was torn on weather to spend the extra money to upgrade to this version on just get the new version of the paperwhite. I ultimately decided to spend the extra when the oasis was on sale! I am beyond happy I made the leap. This kindle feels so much different then my previous and is so much more comfortable to hold in the hand. It is nice to be able to flip the kindle so you can switch hands that you are holding with and the buttons still be easily accessible. The extra customization of the lighting was a welcomed feature I didn't know I desired.

If you are a fan of Kindle and love reading books on them then this is for you. So easy to hold and I love the options as far as reading at night to reading during the day. The battery seems to last for an extremely long time. This is very east to hold with one hand.

I purchased this device out of curiosity. I purchased my first Kindle in 2008 and over the years have upgraded. My next one was the Kindle Keyboard and after that was the Kindle Paperwhite. I actually had 2 different versions of the Paperwhite. The most recent Paperwhite I purchased last November for Black Friday. I like the idea of a bigger screen, so I decided to purchase this. I picked this up over Black Friday at a reduce price. Set up was easy. Started reading on it. About 20 - 30 minutes later, my fingers started to get cold. I like holding the device and not using a cover, so that aluminum got cold quick. I ended up purchasing a light case that doesn't seem to add much weight to it. Have extra reading real estate is great. I think I read somewhere that having a 7" screen, adds 33 more words to the screen. But I guess that would depend on the font size. I liked to be able to turn the page with the buttons, that is one of the reason why I loved the first Kindle and the Kindle Keyboard. The Kindle Keyboard would be perfect, if it had a back light. I don't know if its the ergonomics of the devise, but my fingers felt like they were cramped, after about an hour of reading. It's a different feel or hold when you hold the Paperwhite and hold the Oasis. I feel like I have to grip the Oasis when I hold it and the Paperwhite, my hands rest on the device. The battery life is good. When I set it up, It was about 78% charged. I charged it up to 100% and have been reading on the same charge since. I haven't decided if I'm going to keep it. I really like having the extra real estate to read more words and the page turning buttons. Except for the coldness of the aluminum, I don't have anything bad to say about this device. I do wish Amazon would think about making a 7.8" device for reading, otherwise I guess this one will have to do. Purchasing this at a reduce price, is the best way to do it.

Nothing bad to say about this product - I've always wanted one, and when we were able to purchase, I was so excited! Love it! Dimmable backlight (I like it on lowest), which saves battery. On lowest/close to lowest setting, battery lasts weeks/months depending on use! Love it!

Love the larger screen size and clearer type. These things alone would not have made my update from the voyage worth it. However the warm light, coupled with dark mode, makes this a fantastic bedside reader. Absouno issues with battery life either. Very pleased.

Really love the balance of the asymmetrical design. The warm lighting truly makes it look like I’m reading on real paper too. Battery lasts all week. It does not matter to me if it’s micro usb and not usb c because I only charge it once every couple of weeks!

Outstanding device and has reinvigorated my love for reading. I read at home, on flights, at airport, hotels, everywhere. This is compact, light, and the battery is outstanding. It also doesn’t strain my eyes. I also subscribed to the kindle unlimited - 99c a month for 3 months and so far it’s super easy to navigate. I only complain as it’s not really unlimited in that some books still aren’t included, so they’re stretching it a bit.

The kindle Oasis has been a great replacement for the iPad we had previously used for reading books. The narrow focus on the device helps you stick to enjoying your books and reduce the strain on your eyes with the various light settings. It's worth the money to splurge for this if you read weekly.

Overall I really enjoy this e-reader. The physical buttons are very nice to still have. I love physical books, but you seriously can't beat being able to carry around a few chick lit novels with you on vacation. I ordered a very cute case with a stand from another retailer and now I'm rockin'. I went with this version because of the physical buttons. No accidental turning like I did with my paperwhite. This is definitely a luxury not a necessity but it's nice to have. Negatives: Expensive for what it is (honestly). Lack of USB -C charging port. Hopefully the next version they update!

I am the first time to use the Kindle Oasis. It is wonderful to use Kindle Oasis for my reading levels because there has a word wise as a vocabulary builder. It's hard to understand words, but it keeps up until understanding the word. I hope this Kindle Oasis is long use for more than one year without any problem with Kindle Oasis.

I loved all the features don’t get me wrong, I can read anywhere at any time without a glare and the battery lasts but I had already paid a generous amount for it and even then I still had to pay to Buy the books that were almost as much as the monthly membership itself! I understand the authors benefit from it but thats almost $350 out of my pocket to read the One book I really want to read. I wanted the kindle to save me space from all the books I impulsively buy and take them on the go with me, but it is way too much money, unfortunately
