Performance up to expectations, but battery life less than expected and advertised. Backlight functions well.

My last Kindle was not back lit so this one is even better! Now I can read anywhere, anytime without clipping a light on top of the kindle!!

I love that there's no glare in sunlight and I can adjust the light on my paperwhite so that I can read in bed while my husband is sleeping. I thought I'd never switch from regular books, but I enjoy my kindle so much that I no longer purchase the paper copies.

This is so amazing. Took it with on a cruise and was able to read anywhere, inside, outside, in the cabin after everyone was asleep without needing any additional light. And I was able to move my books from my Nook account to the Kindle.

I spent a lot of time resisting the Kindle and using the app on my iPad but I took the plunge on the Paperwhite for a long trip I wanted to use my iPad for TV while reading. The paperwhite is crisp, you can read it through day and night and downloads books with a quickness. I never would have thought such a simple device ended up taking priority over everything on my list of travel gear. Whether I'm on a red-eye or sitting on my back porch in the day, I can see the text comfortably and crisply. Really love this reader. Don't cheap out on the one without the backlight!

Decided to switch from a Nook to the Kindle Paper White. It’s smaller and lighter, and easier to read outside. More books available also.

I've been reading e-books on my cell phone for years now. Recently, it's been giving me headaches staring at my phone screen for hours at a time, so I asked my husband for an early Christmas present and got this Kindle Paperwhite. The only reason I knocked off one star is because I didn't see anywhere in the description that said this was the version with the lock screen ads. It's annoying, but not a deal breaker.

I have purchased the Paperwhite for 4 of my children. They all love the portability and the light up screen. Perfect for travel and reading in bed.

The backlight is awesome. They screen is very easy to read on. And the device is very easy to use. I can’t recommend it enough to readers.

Had been using a normal tablet to read for quite a while, but really do prefer e-ink to an LCD screen. Very light and small so makes it easy to travel with.

This e reader is perfect! It is user friendly, holds a charge for couple days which is oerfect. The size is very compact I carry with me everywhere!

I used to have a paperwhite-style Nook, but when it needed replacing, they no longer offered the device. Unfortunately, the newer Nook's screen would turn black and practically unreadable in the sunlight. So I got the Kindle. SOO happy! The screen is wonderfully readable, even in bright sunlight, and is capable of being back-lit for night-time reading as well. Best of both worlds ~ Especially since I seem to take reading material with me everywhere I go!

I had an original version of these 5 years ago. I never used it then but have been reading more lately. I figured it was cheap enough lets give it a go- it has been amazing. I live in Hawaii so I bring it to the beach and read constantly. The back light it perfect for night reading. The only weird thing about this is that it saves all of your highlighted areas in one document, but it gives the full citation for each underlined part, which makes it extremely useful (if you read different books, but unnecessarily tedious. But either way, great feature.
