The game is a home designer simi that extends out to designing an entire island. Form trees, bushes, and rivers all the way to the homes that you and your villagers live in. It is slow to start but will be amazingly fun once you get moving.

Bought this for my grandson, he is loving all of the friends that come to visit your island. All of the fun things he shows me he can build brings joy to me. Even if you have never played the others in the past, being able to play with him and he can take me around to see all of his cool things make this a wonderful family game.

It's been a really long time since the last game in the Animal Crossing series, and even longer for me. I've been waiting since Wild World on the DS from back in 2005! Now having played New Horizons for at least 85 hours, I'm glad I waited. I think of Animal Crossing as more of a toy than a game. There's no particular challenge, goal, or conditions for "winning". You just have your own little world to live in, doing your daily routines. The series' fundamental principal is that it takes place real time. What you do today might not pay off for days. Visitors wander in and out of your town, each offering their own new opportunities to enhance your virtual life. The quirky animal residents form bonds with you over weeks or months. They'll celebrate holidays and birthdays with you. This Nintendo Switch installment in the series concentrates on online interactivity with other players. It's something I haven't tried for myself at all, so I can't comment on that. No game ever quite has *everything* I want, but this one gets really close! The biggest and best new freedoms are the ability to sculpt the landscape, and even relocate entire buildings. For me, Animal Crossing goes a long way to satisfy my insatiable urge to collect "stuff". There's furniture, fish, insects, wallpaper and flooring, all kinds of random knick-knacks, and many of them offer active features. Lights and appliances can be turned on and off, animations and sounds can be triggered in anything from popcorn machines to pinball tables. A few home furnishings even provide fairly vital functions, like accessing your clothes from some kind of storage closet, or crafting new DIY items at your own workbench. There really aren't many games that offer the relaxed, aimless, ongoing "live in" quality of Animal Crossing. The handful of fly-by-night imitators seldom approach the Nintendo level of a meticulous, thoughtful experience. Animal Crossing is for anyone and everyone, and that's never been more true than it is for this one. If you haven't already been drawn into the series, now is the right time.

This game was one of the few bright spots in 2020 for me. I've played it over 700 hours since March 20th, and absolutely love love love the creativity, uniqueness, and overall joyfulness it provides. This is a fantastic game for kids and adults alike. I especially like the seasonality of it — the game never gets stale since the environment is constantly changing. Highly recommend on all fronts, and I'd give this 10 stars if I could.

"Animal Crossing: New Horizons" is a whimsical life simulation game where players build and customize their own island paradise. With charming graphics, adorable animal villagers, and engaging seasonal events, it offers a relaxing escape. The real-time clock adds depth, allowing for varied experiences. While it's leisurely and may lack structured goals, it encourages creativity and social interaction. A delightful game that appeals to all ages!

You create your character. You move to an island to start a new life and your only objective is to move at your own pace while mingling with your animal neighbors. This is the foundation of Animal Crossing. On the surface it’s a game rooted in creating relationships and spending time together but what lies beneath that flowery veneer is a deep and addicting (for most) gameplay cycle that all but entices you to visit every day. The game is tied to the system clock of your console. Therefor whatever time it is in the real world it’s that time in game and certain events are available at specific times. More often than not if you choose to play for hours or a few minutes there will be plenty for you to do. For instance, I played today for 35 minutes and in that time I was able to forage for fruit, gather materials to craft some furniture, catch some fish and bugs to donate to my museum where they’re put on display and dig up some fossils for a similar purpose. I’m not a pro gamer but I consider myself to be an original animal Crossing gamer since GameCube and can confidently say there is something for everybody to enjoy regardless of this is your first game or not. The co op is a bit frustrating and the fact there’s only one island per console seems a bit too restrictive but this is Nintendo and they’ve been making questionable gameplay decisions with regard to inclusiveness For years. Despite the blemishes that can easily be seen it isn’t even close to being enough to stop this diamond’s shine. Animal Crossing is a wonderful series and New Horizons pushes it forward in almost every way.

If you have never played Animal Crossing, you have truly missed out on an amazing experience. As an adult, I sincerely enjoy this game, but when playing with my children, I absolutely love it. We have spent countless hours under a big blanket on the couch together traversing the ever-expanding world of Animal Crossing. Buy this game and give the gift of laughter and joy to your entire family.

I've been enjoying this game and find myself sinking an hour or 2 a day. It's definitely not perfect and right off the bat I'll say the game's biggest fault is tedious elements, however it's still a great experience and a game to sit down and relax to. To get the nitty-gritty out of the way I'll start with the problems. With the addition of new tools to help traverse your island came a common fault Nintendo is pretty reputable for: pushing them. Making your main motive of navigating the rest of your island by utilizing the vaulting pole and ladder just makes going around the island painstakingly annoying having to constantly put away your net just to get to another 'panel' of your island. Luckily as you progress you get to shape your island to iron this out, but it doesn't make for a welcoming experience into the game. As with adding the new tool, adding a crafting system was another thing Nintendo pushed a bit too much with introducing to the series for the first time where your tools break. It adds another unnecessarily tedious process to doing the things you play Animal Crossing for as you never know when your tool will break; if you don't have a DIY Bench in your inventory or nearby with the right materials (albeit you more than likely will have them) you're making a trip down the mountain and across the river just to get your net back and imagine encountering a new bug on the way that you won't be able to try to catch and will despawn the before you get back. These things just drag out the enjoyment of interacting with your world and really ends up getting tedious after your tools break 3-4 times. The other main fault of the game is the daily cap on the things you can do. While you can keep fishing for fish and catching bugs when all you're getting is the same things, it becomes disheartening and dull (and annoying everytime your rod or net breaks.) Other than that, knocking materials out of rocks and trees (with money out of rocks) and shaking the fruits out of all the trees then going to flip your loot for money is about it. You can talk to the villagers, but they don't offer you things to do as they did in previous games; no running errands tasks or "lets swap items" so once you flip your gains or donate your new discoveries to the museum you might as well just finish playing the game for the day. With that capping progress to where you're basically only progressing day-by-day just drags out the progress unnecessarily as things like the museum and shop are available at the get-go in the traditional game leading to a VERY slow start when you first start playing. I would say these problems are more prevalent to a veteran player of the series than a newcomer though. These problems I listed may kinda make playing the game feel like a drag and this review may be seeming contradictory to it's rating and title, however what I can say about fault I've listed is that admittedly, they're minor. These things make the game a bit more tedious or repetitive, but only in a minor way. Fishing and catching bugs albeit the same catches is just so addicting and satisfying to do. You just keep doing it and without realizing how much time you've lost to just doing that. The game's about relaxing and just doing something simple and easy and that's what that all is. You aren't stressing yourself on getting the best things; if they come to you, you feel gracious and happy but in the meantime just to be doing something is where the enjoyment comes from. Animal Crossing doesn't need to be anything extraordinary or overly rewarding as admittedly that approach makes for a more stressful experience in a game. If you're looking to just interact with a world in a game and relax, go at a slow pace, and just do things as they come this is for you...for anyone. Animal Crossing New Horizon is a nice break from the games that push your skills and make it to where you have some triumphant feat to accomplish. Sometimes you just need an experience to where you can take your time, not fret; the music articulates this goal of calming you with the soft tone it plays as you walk around. As the title of this states, the game is relaxing, addicting, and fun. It's one where you just enjoy yourself and nothing more. I highly recommend this game for anyone as we all need a little bit of relaxation among the stress we come across in our lives.

if you buy this game for your children and there are multiple children in the house you will either have to buy additional switches or deal with a whole bunch of fussing and fighting due to the fact that said kids will be forced on the same island in order to play with each other and resources are scarce The only thing after certain point you're going to be able to do in an island is fish and look for seashells and I'll tell you what that does not keep kids busy You're going to keep a kid busy you give them their own thing switch I recommend the switch light and then get a copy of the game however if you have families that are above the you know three max limit per day you might want to have to look somewhere that allows you to get more than three because otherwise you will be doing physical and/or digital purchases this game will suck the life out of you in terms of time you will look suddenly up and think where did my day go oh I was going and planting trees just be advised that what you do is going to make no dang sense for the first few days that slimy raccoon is going to make sure that you have a loan payment bigger than the loan payment for your house if it was equitable to dollars you have been warned

This is the best Nintendo Switch Game. I bought for daughter but the whole family ended loving this game. There is so much you can do in the island. You can do whatever you feel like. There is some objectives that you need to accomplished if you want to expand the island but you can take your time to finished them. There is a lot of daily life lesson you can teach your kids with this game likw managing their money, learning about different kinds of bugs, fish, plants, dinosaurs, art, fashion, etc. I would definitely recommend this game for families with kids or without kids. My only complaint is that you can only have one island per console and one person is in charge of the island (the first player that set up the game will be able to choose the island and will be in charge of the island) The other users can join the the game in the same island and play in their own account but they cannot choose a new island. Also some of the shops in the island is not available night past 10pm. Kind of a bummer specially if you want to play after your kids go to bed.

The newest Animal Crossing lives up to the series standards of throwing you in a new world and letting you build it as you see fit. The game is beyond cute on a new level so much it will draw your significant other to it even if they are not gamers. The one glaringly bad decision they made was to make the first person on the island be the end all, say all. If the story is to progress they have to log in and progress it. There is no reason for this and you can tell Nintendo did this simply to sell more consoles because yes, people get so addicted to this game you will run out and buy another Switch so your family can play. I personally was able to avoid this situation just barely but I really wish they would at least tell you when creating your island that this character would be the president because I would've made my wife the leader so she doesn't yell at me to log-in everyday to see what Nook wants us to do next..... Other than this small complaint, the game is great and really helped ease this crazy 2020 we're going through right now.

First off, I was introduced to the Animal Crossing games through Animal Crossing: City Folk. I played that game religiously, as much as a kid could in a given day. When I heard about Animal Crossing coming out with a new game on a console that could be played on the TV again (sorry DS games) in HD, I immediately got a switch and pre-ordered the game. I have been playing it for roughly a month now, and I can confidently say it has been so. much. fun. The first few days of play are the hardest to get through, I admittedly had a little "animal crossing burnout" from the lack of things to do. If you can get through this, the game becomes more interactive, immersive, and fun. I genuinely could spend days on this game if I had the luxury to. My little brother also plays, and has somehow managed to put more hours on the game than I have. Overall, this game is great for everyone- young, old, gamers, non-gamers, animal crossing followers and those who are new to the franchise. You cannot go wrong with this game.

There is high replay value in this game, its fun for all ages and I've actually beat the time of play by 120 hours longer totaling over 200 ours than I did Zelda BOTW which launched March 3, 2017 in less than 1 month of playing animal crossings. I currently sit over 200 hours. This is in part due to the ease of the game, Zelda had me researching what to do next hindering me from fully enjoying the game. A few google hits on animal crossing are all you need to keep things going. Developers nailed it with this game, I have bought 3 copies and recently an additional switch for the wife so the whole family has there own island and can play all at once without waving the controller to "switch leaders". That's the only downside, everyone wants to be leader and can be boring for the other person as they follow the leader. Check out other sites for full details on this feature. Otherwise great game other review sites can give you more in depth details.
