Customers are saying

Customers express satisfaction with the Bolt Charger's Bluetooth connectivity and microphone quality, frequently praising its ease of use. However, negative feedback centers on the Google Assistant functionality, with comments citing slow response times and compatibility issues, particularly with iPhones and other non-Android devices. Some users also reported difficulties during the initial setup process. The overall experience appears mixed, with strong positive feedback on certain features offset by significant concerns about others.

    Better than I expected

This works so much better than I expected it to. I connected mine via Aux. Setup, including a software update, was finished before I left the parking lot. This easily picks up my voice when talking at a normal volume even over music or other loud noises in my car. Calls work great on both ends. People I'm talking to have no issues hearing me. Playing music and texting work really well too. We have Android Auto in our newer family car and love it. I could never justify the price of having an Android Auto head unit installed in our older car that I drive back and forth to work even though I'd love to have it. At $50 this is a beautiful compromise that gives me many of the same features and works nearly as well.

Works Only Well as a Cell Phone Charger

Nice looking object. Performs great as a cell phone charger. Works very poorly as a Google Assistant. Does not recognize voice commands and works very clunky when button it pushed. Since I bought this item super cheap, I decided to just keep it for use as a cell phone charger, but I no longer use it for anything Google.

Great blue tooth adapter and charging combo for older cars that do not have BT in them! Lets me listen to my streaming apps through my factory car radio, and works great. The only issue is that it is hard to use with multiple devices.

Well it charges. The Google assistant will only activate by using the button. Could not get it to activate by voice. Apparently this is an issue with a lot of people. It was on sale and I'm using it anyway. Maybe I when I feel like troubleshooting it I'll see if I can get it to work properly. Bought it on sale for deal of day. Would never pay for full price for it

    Great After Latest Update

I had issues with the Bolt when I first purchased it. It would sometimes lose connection until I restarted my phone. One of my issues was user error as I would sometimes forget to turn up the bluetooth volume on my phone so I couldn't hear the Bolt responding to my commands. All of my issues went away with update 0.5.30 which was released in October. I no longer use my AM/FM band in my car when I want to listen to the radio, everything from my favorite radio stations to Spotify, iHeart Radio, Pandora, etc., now go through the Bolt. The sound quality is amazing, and even though it's in my center console under my armrest, it has no trouble hearing my commands even when my music is loud. I just got one for my wife as well, love it!

I thought this would be great to have in the car, usb charging us good but the google assistant is terrible. Doesn’t always connects and when it does you have to have your stereo in Bluetooth aux so really not worth the hassle

I really enjoyed this while I owned my 1995 Mustang, made your radio act as if it were a smart, newer model. Charged quickly, and Google Assistant worked good. Set-up took forever tho as well as it constantly connecting to my phone even when I didn't want it to, and the mic was terrible quality. Worked well for music when it was paired with my cassette AUX.

I really like this product. I have an older car that doesn’t have Bluetooth so it’s great to be more hands free while driving. It’s a little glitchy but I’m sure it will improve as more updates come along as with other google products. I also love being able to play trivia and name that song on long car trips

I do not have blue tooth installed in my truck, so thought this would be helpful, and works great! Calls come through, clear, works well. Only downside is that I always have to have on Aux setting for it to work. Google has hard time understanding play music command, but all others have been great

Worked great in my Kia where the Cigarette Lighter Socket is close to the driver. I was able to play music and get directions with no problem. Then I switched it to my Pacifica MiniVan, where the Cigarette Lighter Socket is at my feet in the center console. Google assistant could never hear me in the minivan. So before you buy check where the Cigarette Lighter Sockets are in your car. You want them as far off the floor as possible and close to the driver.

This started great as my vehicle has an auxiliary input, but no bluetooth. It hears my commands fine, but it has started having a delay in responding and now callers on the other end say they are having trouble hearing me. Not sure if a software update came out, but it is now pretty disappointing.

I got this because my husband brought one along on a long trip we took and he found it quite useful. He has a Samsung phone. I decided I should get one for my car, but as it turns out it does not work the same way or have as many features working with my iphone. So I took it back. No problems returning it, so kudos to Best Buy for that.

I am a huge Google Home/Google Assistant user. We have a Google Home device in every room in our home, including the Google Home Max, the Hub, and multiple Google Homes and Google Home Minis. When I heard there was a solution for the car, I was anxious to pick this up - however, it falls short. Way short. I installed this in both my Tesla Model S and my Ford Escape. In both cars, the Google Assistant would regularly lose connection and required reopening the Google Assistant app. In addition there is a delay between promoting with "Hey, Google" and actually getting an answer. In addition, it charges devices slow. It's just not there yet, and I was anxious to return this and pick up a quality Anker PD+ charger.

I have an older car that doesn't have good Bluetooth. I was excited to run this into my aux input and have good Bluetooth with Google assistant accessibility. Setup and running was extremely easy. No problems there. The device works as described. If you can use Google assistant you can use this. Unfortunately I've found that it's got a few bugs and flaws that just keep it from being the best. First off the microphone picks up ok for the assistant but it really struggles with calls. Where my cigarette lighter recepticle sits means it's too far away to be heard well when talking on the phone. I ended up buying an extender to move it closer but still have a lot of issues. I've found there are times it will botch the connect to my phone and won't work at all. I end up repeating hey Google or ok Google over and over. I ultimately have to reset it. While it's accomplished what I want it definitely doesn't do so quickly or without bugging out sometimes. In its current state I just can't recommend it.

Works great with Android Assistant but has one limitation... can only be paired to one phone. If you share a car, only one phone can be paired to it. You have to reset the device to pair to a different phone.

I thought maybe the bad reviews were just from iPhone users. I have a Samsung Galaxy S9. Setup was smooth enough. Unfortunately, the mic does not always pick up on Hey Google. When it does, sometimes it just sits there thinking. When it occaisionally responds with a tone to indicate that it is listening, it is about 70% actually hearing the command or hearing it correctly. The volume is way lower than the music volume, so if you aren't listening to music loud, you will not be able to hear it. I'm giving it a couple more days. It's a great concept that honestly I don't know why the phone itself doesn't try do automatically. Right now it's more frustrating than helpful. It's like have an extremely lame Google Home in your car.
