I'm new to cooking but the Anova helps me catch up

Smart tech while cooking? Sounds like the future. I'm a tech guy, and is still aiming to make my home more like the Jetsons. The Anova is that device that allows you to utilize your already handy smart phone and aids you in the kitchen. At first, I too was skeptical about using such a device to "cook". First appearance I thought it was a hair iron, but once you hold it you notice immediately that this is built with quality. Downloading the app from the App store was simple and I was set up and ready to go in minutes. Pros: -Quality: Yes, this is an excellent cooker and has precise and accurate temperature control. Once you get past the part about putting your food in plastic sealed bags (not included, and I'll get into that later), you attach the Anova and clamp it down to your pot (also not included). This particular version is 1000 watts, so it heats up at a good amount of speed and maintains that level. -App controlled: Again, the future! You can have that peace of mind setting your Anova up and can safely step away and do other tasks outside/inside the kitchen because you now have a sous chef. Through the app you can control the settings such as timer, adjusting your temperature, and look up more recipes. There are a good amount of recipes on the app that you get lost scrolling down. You are also aided by several photos of what to do and since I'm a visual learner, this is invaluable. I can't wait to try Soft Boiled Egg, Sirloin Steak with Smashed Yukon Gold Potatoes, and many more. These recipes are interactive and are able to program your device at the same time. The touch screen interface on top of your device is also easy to navigate and set up the temperature and time. The best part about this technology is you will always have consistency because I have never cooked perfectly hard-boiled eggs until I got this! (at least in my experience this has been the case). Cons: -Not cordless: this was the biggest issue for me. The Anova comes with a power cord and thankfully we have 4 outlets adjacent to our stove top. I had wished this device was cordless because I was still a little concerned about having a cord lay on the stove top. But I get it, 1000 watts. How many AA batteries would you use up in one setting that can last 45 minutes? Bags: To use the Anova with most meats and vegetables requires placing them in vacuum sealed bags. So you are basically boiling the meats and then would have to pan sear them afterwards for that added crisped look/taste. That means if you don't already have a vacuum sealer and bags, you need to buy them. You can use resealable bags but I prefer vacuum sealing. You can get a large amount of bags on the internet so costs may not be an issue. Again, I'm new to cooking so I would have thought there would be a more cost-effective way in cooking with this device. Overall, I am very impressed with Anova's Precision Cooker. Smart technology meets master cooking (no pun intended) and provides an easier and effective approach to a newbie like me. My wife still has to use it but is equally impressed that this has motivated me to be more proactive in the kitchen. I wonder how long would it take for his to be voice operated and able to work along side your Alexa/Google Home devices? Maybe that's the next step.

    Cook Like a Master Chef!

To begin, this Anova Precision Cooker may not be for everybody. It’s definitely a different way of cooking. Modern, precise, innovative, and I gotta admit, kinda makes me feel like a Master Chef preparing food the ‘sous vide’ way. I was pleasantly surprised by how well this device performed. As a way of trying it out for the first time, I placed a small cooking pot on my kitchen counter, and carefully positioned the Anova as directed, making sure that the clamp was on there good and tight. After turning the Anova on and adjusting the digital controls for desired temperature and cooking time, I placed my first test food pouch in the water, and let it do its thing. Oh, and yes, there is an app!* More on that in a minute. Not only did the Anova heat up the water in the pot faster than it would have taken me to do so on the stove, but because of the way this device works, I can be sure the temperature of the water stayed consistent, the entire time I was cooking. This, is to me, a huge advantage over stop top cooking. During the cooking cycle, although I had the pot filled to within an inch of the top rim, the water didn’t splash up or spill over. There wasn’t even any ‘noise’ put out by the Anova, merely the gentle bubbling of the heated water in the pot. My favorite food of choice - steak! - I’m delighted to say, turned out delicious and oh so tender! One thing though, remember to sear your meat after you’ve cooked it with the Anova. As long as you don’t overdo it, those lovely meaty juices should stay in there. After all, you’re not intending to continue the cooking process, you’re just wanting to get a nice sear on the steak. I also tried it out on a vacuum bagged package of frozen vegetables. The veggies were cooked perfectly, and tasted fresh and flavorful. *The Anova Culinary App has oodles of handy recipes! There are so many luscious foods this Anova Precision Cooker can prepare using the sous vide method. I found the Cooking Guides (Time & Temp Quick Reference) and Recipes Search, particularly useful. You can even create and publish your own personal recipes in the app itself to be included on the Anova Recipes Feed to share with others, or keep them as ‘private’ just for yourself. With a WiFi connection and pairing the Anova to your mobile device via Bluetooth, you are also able to adjust and monitor the device’s cooking features while in another room, or out on a quick trip to the store. My only concern is choosing the right type of heat resistant bags to put the food in. Anova does sell accessories to go with the device, but I am mindful of the additional cost. I did search online for other options, and found that several local stores carry sous vide vacuum bags, so I may invest in some of those. For now, I’ve opted to use freezer safe ‘zippered’ storage bags. It pays to do a bit of research, especially if you’ve never used a sous vide cooker like this before. I must say, that innovation in kitchen technology fascinates me. And for what this small appliance is and is able to do, with its quality and performance, I’d say the price is more than fair. So if you’re in need of, or want to experience a new and different way of cooking your food, give this Anova Precision Cooker a try. It really cooks!

    Believe the hype

Everywhere I went on the web that had anything to do with cooking I kept seeing sous vide this and that. I kept thinking all this jive about some buzzword product when I make dang good steaks without it. Those jokers can keep the sous vide. Then I got the Anova Precision cooker and I ate my own words and maaaannn those words were juicy after a good sous vide! I couldn't believe it. A perfect steak that was BETTER than my plain old grilled steak. Insides even and pink and the outside with a good caramelization from my cast iron skillet. Holy smokes this was the best steak I've ever made. I didn't have much of a choice with meat since the grocery store I went to was slow on restocking. I grabbed a cheap chuck eye (which I actually do like). Slapped that steak into a vacuum seal pouch, plopped it in water, and turned on the Anova. I set it to 130 because I like rare to medium steaks. This allowed for the extra cooking on the skillet to keep it from being dry. After 1.5hrs I opened up the pack, added salt and seasoning (shoulda seasoned first, but the salt should go on after to help with the crust) and about 4 minutes later dropped a knife on it and fell in love! I don't think I'll make another steak without the Anova again - except for my wife's steaks, she like beef jerky, bone dry steaks that feel like dust in your mouth. I did freeze one steak to see how it holds with a recook later. Now for no fault of Anova I couldn't test the wifi capabilities. My only option for home internet is cellular and a big t-storm disrupted service that evening. If they'd have allowed wifi control without the need to contact their server then maybe I could have tried it out. But seeing as so many companies need to collect your data you have to go through their servers to connect to a device two feet from you. Without wifi it's extremely easy to use. Set the temp, time, and you're ready to have one of the best home meals of your life. This weekend I may try pork or chicken!

I have to admit I was a bit skeptical at first but after the first use, I was a believer. Everything and I mean everything has been very tender, flavorful, and moist. This device couldn't be any simpler to use! Place food in a food-safe bag, remove the air, and place it in a large pot of water. Choose the recipe from the app, press "Start Cooking" and walk away. Finish with a quick sear or toss it on the grill for a few minutes and enjoy! You will be amazed at the results. The unit is well built and appears to be made of high-quality materials. Cleanup is a breeze; simply wipe with a damp cloth or disassemble and toss in the dishwasher. The app did lock up during one of my tests, causing my meal to cook well past the intended cooking time. Now normally I would decrease my rating, but to my surprise and delight, the extended time in the water bath, not only tenderized the meat, it increased the flavor tremendously. My family was very impressed. I highly recommend you purchase and see for yourself, you will not be disappointed.

First off I am brand new to sous vide cooking. If you are as well don't be discouraged by the slow cooking, it is all worth it in the end. I eat tons of eggs, tons! With the Anova I was able to make sous vide egg bakes that I have normally made in the oven in muffin tins. With mini mason jars and this fantastic addition to my kitchen I was able to make the best egg bakes ever. They are so dang soft and moist, I even enjoy them cold right out of the refrigerator. First off download the app and get looking at recipes, tons online as well. The bluetooth connection makes life easy as well, I have all my large appliances on bluetooth but now they are incorporating it into small appliances which is fantastic. When you have a busy fast paced lifestyle, any bit of help is appreciated. Don't expect to have dinner ready in 15 minutes. Do your planning ahead of time and get ready for a very moist a perfectly cooked dinner though. I was also blown away that they make special dishes designed for precision cooking, so a pot/stove aren't even needed. This is great for those living in small quarters or limited to large appliances. All in all, I don't see using it every day but we will use it at least a few times a week. We meal plan anyway which also help tremendously. Thanks Anova for this great addition to our Kitchen.

It works great! Easy to set up and our food turned out amazing!! We did salmon and chicken, both were out of this world! The only thing I wish it had in the quick start guide was recommended "time and temps" for certain food. The app is ok, but sometime I just want chicken without all the fancy dressings and spices.

I am really impressed with this new Anova model. I have never had a sous vide before, but I have always been interested in trying one. They are not as fast as other modern cooking appliances such as instant pots or air fryers, but precision cooking provides easy and consistent results every time. So far I have only done steaks, but they came out perfect. The best thing about these precision cookers is you can't overcook anything or mess it up. Get your food and seasonings bagged up, set the temp, and just let it sit. Steaks came out of the bag at perfect temperature. I browned the outside really quick and the flavor was great. Highly recommended. It takes some time and planning in advance, similar to slow cooker, but the results are definitely worth it.

    CHEAP AND DEFECTIVE

I purchased an Anova and used it 3 times for eggs, another for carrots and last a steak. Worked perfectly. Great end result. Attempted to use again and it would not come on. No lights, no sound, nothing. No damage. It just wouldn't come on out of the blue. Contacted Anova and they sent a replacement. Used that one TWICE. SAME ISSUE. Worked fine, attempt to use again and nothing. Had that less than 60 days. Anova said they can't replace a replacement. I'm not giving a poor review for that, the poor review is its too expensive to give 2 or 3 cooks amd then break down without cause. I dont recommend. Maybe im unlucky, but same issue tells me defect in software/quality. It wont last!!!

Until the Anova sous vide machine, I had only ever seen one of these devices used. Having made chicken a few times with it, I'm in love. I actually still finish the chicken on the grill, and it comes out PERFECT! This device is easy to use and maintain, so get started with sous vide today and start making your cooking easier.

I recently purchases the new Anova Nano and thought it was great, this new "regular-sized" Anova is even better. I put regular-size in quotes because in all actuality this new Anova is about the same size as the Nano I have, I was very surprised to find this out when I opened the box. I was even more surprised when I realized it fit the container I had set up for the nano just as well. This is an even better Anova because the Nano just has Bluetooth, this Anova, however, has Wifi also and its multitudes better to use because of it. No more worrying about Bluetooth dropping out in the middle of a long cook session! This thing stays connected to the Wifi in my home and I never have to worry about losing connection. There is the added benefit that I can monitor a long cooking session from outside the home as well, because of the Wifi connectivity. As for cooking quality it cooks great I love the immersion circulator for a great steak or seasoned chicken breast that I can throw in for a while and not have to worry about burning. Then once it's cooked just pull it out of the bag and sear the food and we are good to go. Some of the most tender steaks I have ever had have come from using this Anova. I would say if you don't have one already or if you have the Nano get this you will thank yourself later.

Anova is synonymous to sous vide.. Its like Kleenex is to tissue. The unit works well and its faster to heat up the water BUT there is a higher pitch sound. Not much change from previous models but still would recommend this to others.
