Antenna is great but the pre amp is garbage. Best Buy please start selling/supporting quality products that actually work. It's trash like this that is the downfall of our civilization. This will hurt the next generation and I wish you were more green. I paired the antenna with a Televes preamp. I would highly recommend this brand. I also threw the splitter and coax out since those are also garbage.

I live 50 miles from the TV transmitters and have been using the Clearstream 4V since 2010 which works really well with it's 70 mile range, but it only picks up UHF signals. I can get CBS and NBC (UHF), but not ABC or FOX (VHF) even though all 4 transmitters are right next to each other. The MAX-XR says it can receive VHF signals, so I bought in hopes of watching the Superbowl which was being broadcast on FOX. After installing and tinkering with alignment and all the other tricks, the MAX-XR only picked up the same stations as my old 4V - all UHF. CBS and NBC could be found, but the signal was not strong enough to be viewed. Tried both with amplification and without, but didn't make a difference. Not a single VHF station could be received. Therefore no reason to keep it. I returned the MAX-XR for a full refund as my old 4V already provides good reception for the UHF stations. What really bothered me is that there is no mention of VHF on the box. Online literature says it can receive hi-VHF signals, not low-VHF. That means it can see channels 7-13, but not 2-6. In the case of ABC, it tends to broadcast in the low-VHF spectrum even though it is often listed as channel 7 in many markets. The channel you use on your TV set is not the same as the channel which the signal is broadcast. You need to know the physical channel in order to find an antenna appropriate to pick up the signal. In the case of ABC, that's lo-VHF, not hi-VHF. And that's why the MAX-XR didn't work for me. However that doesn't explain why it didn't pick up FOX, which is a hi-VHF signal. I give this product 1 star because the signals I'm receiving are well within the advertised range, and even with amplification it couldn't match the performance of an older antenna made by the same company. I also give it 1 star because of the misleading advertising of this product which states it picks up both UHF and VHF, but make it very difficult to see the fine print where it states it only picks up hi-VHF, not low-VHF. Whether that's Best Buy or Antenna's Direct I'm not sure. In either case, it's deceptive practice that I don't like.
