Purchased this for a backup for a TV Comcast HD DVR. Works ok but I was shocked the first the power went out the system only backed up the DVR for only 10 or 15 minutes. Was hoping for more time.

This product is a piece of junk and complete waste of money. Power goes out due to a storm and the battery backup lasts about 10 minutes when it should last about 70 minutes. Do not buy. Waste of $75.

Thank you for taking the time to review the BN4001, I do apologize that this unit did not fit your needs. The runtime is dependent on the size of the load attached and the current state of the internal battery. I have used APC battery back-ups for many years and it seems that the day after the 3yr warrant expires they go bad! I still use them because the others don't seem to be much better.

This UPS unit appeared to work great, until about 3 weeks after I bought it. I heard a beeping noise and didn't know what it was. When my computer and 50" TV/Monitor suddenly shut off, I figured out what was beeping. The unit was no longer charging the battery back up, so now I have a really expensive surge protector until I can return it.

It advertised about 25 minutes worth of battery life but it only ran my router for about 4 minutes. Doesn't automatically engage but instead must be flipped on once the power is out.

Thank you for taking the time to review our BN4001. We appreciate the feedback and were sorry to hear the unit is not providing the expected runtime. With a 200 watt load connected, you should expect to have 4 minutes of runtime available. Please double check the maximum possible power draw of the attached equipment to ensure it falls below 200 watts. In order to have 25 minutes of runtime available, the attached load should be around 70 watts. Please reach out to an APCbySchneider support team if you need further assistance. We have email and chat services through our support site and you may also contact us directly at 800-800-4272. APC

    Good Protection For The Price

I got this unit from APC on sale. So far it has worked flawlessly after two losses of power. I live in Central Florida, the lightning capital of the world, and surges along with loss of power are frequent. This helps protect my PC and other expensive peripherals. Be sure to go in the bottom of the unit and connect the battery terminals before plugging it in.

      Hi John,
Thank you for taking the time to review the BN4001. We typically do not recommend connecting a printer to a smaller Back-UPS unit. Printers draw much more power when first powered on and while printing and this additional power draw could force the UPS to run on battery power. If it is not mission critical for you to print during a power failure, it may make sense to move the printer to a separate surge protector.
      I hope this helps!APC

    Great UPS with one flaw

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This UPS is very well made, has a robust, easily replaceable battery, and would rate 5 stars if it weren't for the spacing of the receptacles on the unit. Three of them are too close together to allow plugging in the transformers that often power modems side by side. I had to purchase short, 12 inch, extension cords to allow me to plug in all the transformers that power the two modems and a router for my wi-fi and cable based phone. Other than this problem, which won't affect everyone, it is fantastic unit that I highly recommend. I bought two of the these units and in my other application the receptacle spacing was not a problem.

Works Great, But Won't Last Long

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I purchase these APCs for my computers. They don't have the longest battery life. With a monitor and desktop computer, it won't keep you up for long if the power goes out. But it's rare that the power goes off for more than a minute or two. Worse than long black-outs are the spikes and brownouts that can occur throughout a given day. Those power variations can be extremely detrimental to your equipment. These APC units keep everything stable. If the power flickers, I know my equipment is fine. The surge protection and the warranty are great additions. The battery will come disconnected and you will need to connect the battery properly before using this the first time. If the battery dies, you can purchase a replacement online. I recommend these APC units for anyone with a computer. They're great for everyday power fluctuations.
