Keep your home networking equipment working when the electricity goes out with this APC Back-UPS Network 40 BN4001 UPS that features 4 battery-backup and surge-protection outlets to ensure electronics remain powered during outages.
Q: How long does the battery last once the power goes out?
A: I am running a 27" iMac, two midi controllers, and external audio interface, and also have a desktop amplifier powering two studio monitors plus a subwoofer plugged into this and right now the display tells me i have an estimated 56 minutes of running time if the power were to go out.
Q: Where do I get a new Battery for this?
A: Radio Shack carries replacement batteries. You may want to consider just buying a new UPS if you are in an area that has frequent power spikes. Usually around Christmas you can buy a new UPS for what the replacement battery costs.
Q: My old E650R UPS from APC had a Powerchute s/w package and online status
A: Not on this model. More expensive models have that capability. I believe it was removed to save cost. This one is labeled as network backup which is your modem, router, switch things that do not need to go through a proper shutdown sequence. Like a computer does. Which was the primary reason to use the cable and software.
A: Yes. That is what it is designed to do. We have five in our house. No more mystery reboots due to dirty power and short term outages.
A: Yes...momentarily blips may (and likely do) allow for 'dirty' power to come through. High end electronics are sensitive to the quality of electricity they get. A UPS not only provides for the constant supply of electricity, but acts as a very strong buffer between dirty power and your electronics.
Q: Can I "Trade Up" my APC UPS at Best Buy, or do I have to do it on APC's Website?
A: I know that it can absolutely be done on APC's website but to find out if you can do it at Best Buy you would need to contact your local best buy store.
Q: can i change the battery without turning the unit off?
A: Thank you for your inquiry. The new BN450M does not have user replaceable batteries. Please refer to the user guide for additional details. http://www.apcmedia.com/salestools/AHUG-A7DC9U/AHUG-A7DC9U_R1_EN.pdf?sdirect=true
A: It all depends on which ones you want to work once power goes out. Battery/surge means that outlook both provides surge protection and offers battery power if the power to the outlet fails. Surge merely offers surge protection and anything plugged into those outlets will turn off when the power to the outlet fails.
