Bad back ups
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This product is not what it says it is. My power went out and the four of the surge protectors I had purchased did not run any of my appliances for more than maybe 10 minutes. I am very disappointed. I would not recommend them. I'm sure there are better products on the market.

Posted .Thank you for taking the time to review our UPS. I am sorry to hear the runtime wasn't as expected. There is a chance that the equipment is drawing more power than expected. At full load (480 watts) the unit would provide 1 minute of runtime. At half load (240 watts) you would get around 9 minutes of runtime. It sounds like the load may be around 230 watts.

GJM review APC battery backup and surge protector
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Was disappointed with product. Purchased on short notice to replace a failed unit. 9 outlets, but whenever I plugged in 4 items (PC, monitor, printer, speakers) the unit simply shut-down/off without warning. I returned this product.

Posted .Thank you for taking the time to review our UPS. Unfortunately it sounds like you may have overloaded the UPS. Even though there are multiple outlets on the UPS you would still want to keep the load under 480 watts. It is likely that the printer pulled too much power and caused the UPS to become overloaded.

Keeps the Power Flowing
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This APC Battery Back-Up & Surge Protector is not an item I’d have thought to own, but I’m glad to have one now. It’s always good to try and be prepared for the unexpected. Before moving to Arizona, I lived in Southern California. Several years ago, the power grid went down. We were without power for around 10 hours. I was the only one with cell service. But that wouldn’t have done me much good if my phone’s battery died. Sure, I could charge it via the car’s battery. Yet that would present other issues too. Now, having this APC battery backup available to me, if the power goes out again, for the short term - which most power outages are, unless it’s a longer planned rolling blackout by the electric company - I’ll be okay, at least for a while until the charge* depletes. The estimated *6 hours should be enough, in most cases. This particular model has six ‘battery & surge’ outlets, three ‘just surge protector’ outlets, and one USB charging port. If I had any suggestion to make here, it might be to space the outlets a bit more, even though that would add to the overall size of the unit. Some of the power plugs on electronics have bigger boxy plugs to fit into the outlet socket. This can prove troublesome. It’s comforting to know if I absolutely needed to, in an emergency, I could run my box fans with this, to at least provide some relief if the power (and my AC) went out. But also, to still be able to stay connected via my devices in order to keep informed of what’s going on. As well as, for continuing to be able to work on my PC or for streaming entertainment. Another use for this APC Battery Back-up & Surge Protector, would be to ensure uninterrupted connection to your home WiFi network. I have quite the setup myself, and to test this out, I simulated a blackout situation. Not only did this battery backup kick right in, but it provided the same level of power necessary with no noticeable irregularities. Overall, good product, does what it’s meant to. I didn’t have any issues with the exterior being warm, at all. It’s a little “heavy” but then, it needs to be for what it is. Although you can hang it on the wall, I wouldn’t, unless it’s down lower along the baseboard or in an office or workroom area. It’s just too big and cumbersome. P.S. Make sure to review the included User’s Manual.

Defective unit
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Reeeeeally unhappy with this. My other apc has been going strong for four years. This one started acting up a month after purchasing. Just outside the return window. It’s defective and not usable. Avoid.

APC - so reliable
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my third APC in my home. Recently in Florida during hurricane Irma I was working as a firefighter and could not go home. The weird and funny thing was that I was able to see the inside of my house since I had my cable modem connected to the APC. It was comforting, and actually lasted for a lot longer then I expected after power went out. So I do realize the value of these awesome little things. As far as this specific one BACKUP 900VA it is so much more compact then previous versions. That actually works great under my computer table. It has the battery connector that you connect initially, and then your ready to go. Initially there was a very minor faint smell of electrical burning that went away quickly so if that happens to you after you plug it in don’t be alarmed. It never got hot and worked great. I simulated a power outage and it worked longer then the time on the box but I don’t over do it on connections.

Only last an hour on battery supply.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Storm came and power was lost. Backup power onky last for an hour on my entertainment center. I will see if I can return the unit due to failure to maintain power as specified in overview.

Posted .Thank you for taking the time to review our UPS. I am sorry to hear that the unit didn't provide the expected runtime. There is a chance there is more power draw then suspected. To get around an hour of runtime the load would be around 65 watts. At full load (480 watts) you would around 2 minutes of runtime. At half load (240 watts) you would get around 10 minutes of runtime.

Great Surge Protector/Uninterrupted Power Supply
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A compact unit sporting nine three-prong outlets and one USB charger - three of the nine outlets offer only surge protection and the remaining six offer surge protection and an uninterrupted power supply (UPS). This doesn't have the power of a gasoline generator for power outages and you shouldn't be expecting that. But will smooth out fluctuations in power that can reboot computers or damage other electronic equipment and it does a respectable job at giving continued power to devices in the absence of electrical power. APC's pitch for this device is curious - indicating that it will continue to generate power for a router for 5.9 hours so that you don't lose your internet connection (not 6 hours, 5.9 hours). That probably assumes that you would be using the internet connection with a charged laptop? It certainly isn't going to keep six devices going for 5.9 hours, but it responded well to keeping six of my devices (TV, cable, router, printer, computer, monitor) running for over an hour before I plugged the unit back in. As compact as this unit is, I think that is a remarkable accomplishment.

Great protection for my devices!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had my eyes on APC products for some time now, and I finally got my hands on one. With multiple gaming computers in my home, I infidelity wanted to provide a level of protection to them because they are not cheap! As a start, I went with the APC - Back-UPS 900VA, and I have used it to connect my Alienware desktop and a few other electronic devices. The APC - Back-UPS 900VA has six battery/surge protected outlets and three surge protected outlets, for a total of nine. I don't find it to be a bulky unit, but others might. It fit neatly under my desk and I have room to move my legs around still. Out of the box, there is a connector on the bottom that you have to plug in so that they battery function will work. Aside from that, this is a plug-and-play installation. I feel confident that this unit will protect my devices, and I am even thinking about purchasing one of APC's bigger units for my other electrical devices. I would definitely recommend the APC - Back-UPS 900VA battery backup and surge protector to anyone.

Excellent overall, one design nit pick
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the 2nd APC unit I own and to date I have had absolutely zero problems with my other one. I live in an area that gets frequent thunderstorms in the summer and wind year round; it seems like we lose power briefly at least once every three months. I love being able to still have access to wifi, VOIP, etc., not to mention being able to charge cell phones if needed. I really like the size of this 900VA; it fits perfectly under my desk without being so bulky as to make me worried that I'm going to be accidentally kicking it every now and then. I have a desktop computer, a monitor, two studio monitors, a lamp and more plugged into the 900VA with outlets to spare. I am writing this review without it plugged into the wall at all. When I unplugged it none of my devices skipped a beat; not even for a second. Power was continuous and instantaneous. The 900VA isn't beeping at me either. The only way you know it's doing its thing is the little blinking light. So, overall I'm extremely happy to have this and have little doubt it will come in handy frequently for years to come. One complaint: to set up the 900VA you have to flip this little connector out from the back to connect the battery to the unit itself. I had a really hard time pulling that out. The plastic is hard and in a fairly awkward spot. When I did succeed, I also succeeded in bending the prongs slightly I believe. I wasn't sure it was going to be able to connect, but I bent them back by hand fairly easily. Maybe this was just a rare case, but I can't help but think there's a better design option out there to be had. I'd move more slowly and use less force trying to pry it up if I were going through the set up steps again. Don't bend yours! But yeah, does what it does and does it well. Great piece of mind.

Did the job
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sometimes life just has good timing. I received this on a Friday and plugged it in to start charging. On Saturday I plugged in my modem and my wifi extender. On Sunday we had an unexpected power outage. The power was only out for about an hour and a half but it was enough to let me know that I don't have to worry about that in the future. There was no disruption of our wifi at all. Given a blink will cause the modem to reset, you can see why I'm pleased. Our wifi worked for the whole time of the outage with no problems. I'm very happy with this battery backup outlet and think this will make a pretty good gift this Christmas.

Perfect for my needs
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I picked this battery back up oversized power strip for my spectrum modem and wifi router. No more wifi outages during sudden power outages of a few seconds during thunder storms. I don't consider this small, its roughly 15 inches long, 6 inches high, and 4 to 5 inches deep. I tucked it behind my TV stand, which hides it perfectly out of sight. Just plug this guy into a electrical outlet and power it on, and your good to go the next time a storm hits and knocks out the power. This has 6 battery and surge protected outlets and 3 with only surge protection. Thankfully that more than enough for my current needs.

Seenior Citizens and Battery Back-Up
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This item performs as advertised. I purchased this item to provide battery backup for the internet and telephone in the event of a power failure. I purchased two more units to keep some LED lamps on. This is to protect my 92 year old mother who lives alone. This will provide internet, telephone and lighting for two hours during a power outage.

Great at keeping your stuff safe!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this product thinking I wouldn’t have to use it but to provide peace of mind should a surge or power outage occur. Oddly enough, the day I received it I had a power outage in the California heat waves so got to do some good testing! Summary: A great peace of mind item that will prevent equipment damage and ensure you can keep the internet running or save files before losing data in the event of power loss. Pros: -Non-obtrusive design -Easy set up -Great battery capacity -Easy to swap batteries -USB port -Lots of connections -Could use a USB-C port -Nothing else I can think of! Unboxing: When the power went out, it was still in the box and I had yet to set it up. Toward the afternoon our power went out and I tore it open. I didn’t expect much since I hadn’t charged it but gave it a shot. Inside the box there is great protection around the unit to keep it safe. There is a manual inside and the unit and nothing else. The box has some heft to it. Set up: To use for the first time, you must insert a little jumper on the bottom into the slot it is next to, this will enable the connection to the battery and allow it to charge/discharge. The battery is lead acid so I expect long charging times, but it can hold a great capacity. After plugging it into the wall, there are six outlets for backup/surge protection and three outlets for surge protection only. There is also a USB-A port in the top as well. With the power out, I plugged it into my Netgear internet router/modem combo. Use: It turns out there was plenty of juice in the batter when I first set it up without charging. For the next hour while power was out, we were the only Wi-Fi router available in the neighborhood. It wasn’t really needed but cool to have full speed and the battery savings from not having to use LTE on our phones. Batteries are rated for five years before needing replacement and the instructions state you should get a notification on the unit if there is battery failure. I didn’t get a chance to try it out since I am running a Mac but the instructions states that you can use the PowerChute software to configure settings in the UPS which can save files on your computer then shut it down so you don’t lose too much battery in the event of power loss.

Awesome Product!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Whenever I lost power I would always think to myself. It would be nice if I still had internet. Well Folks, APC had the same idea. I've used their products when I was in the military so I trust that they will last a long time. The version I am testing is the 900VA. Guess what? it worked great for powering my modem and router for at least 5 hours when I unplugged it. This is an awesome product and I definitely recommend it to anyone with power reliability issues.

Backup beast
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The APC - Back-UPS 900VA 9-Outlet/1-USB Battery Back-Up and Surge Protector truly lives up to its name! This time of year the weather is bad and the power is fickle so have protection for your most valuable electronics is essential. First out of the box this thing is heavy and you can just feel the quality in its build. You must put the amp breaker in the back its rather simple. From there, plug it into the wall and then let it do its work. I had my computer plugged into it when the storm came through. Like clockwork the power went out and the battery kept it going for another 10-15 minutes. But i was able to save my work and shut it down. If you need a peace of mind and security for your electronics. then look not further!

Professional for home use
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was going to play around and test this unit over the weekend and as it were our power ended up going out that weekend anyway, not for long but a real-world test. This unit is about 10 pounds out of the box and has a 5’ power cord (which is nice). There are nine outlets and a USB but only 6 of the outlets and the USB are actually battery backed-up, all are surge protected though. The unit is not inconspicuous either just so you know but does fit nicely behind my entertainment center. When setting up I plugged in our Router, Wi-Fi hub, TV, Wireless home security system, and Wi-Fi camera hub. When the power actually went out, I did not want to overload the usage, so I unplugged everything but the Wi-Fi hub and network Router. The power was only out for 20 or 30 minutes but both hubs stayed on and we never lost internet connectivity on our laptops or mobile devices and additional items that have internal battery backup as well (home security, etc.) were able to stay connected. Once our power was back on and the unit had been connected to the wall for a few hours I ran a test (I would say another, but the first time was not my doing, so?). I left everything plugged in and unplugged the APC from the wall. Everything stayed on for a while or at least until I turned on the TV, which did drain the APC's batteries in no time, but it powered all components for a few minutes while also powering the TV. I again rinsed and repeated this trial and found that you can easily run a Laptop, Wi-Fi, and charge a phone for over two hours with continuous use of both phone and pc screen use. In conclusion, I am very please to have this tool in my family’s emergency preparedness kit and would highly recommend it to anyone.
