I purchased the item with the Apple Pencil 1st generation to convert my research/note taking to be 100% virtual, happy with the decision.

9th generation vs. 7th generation

Maybe a bit faster processor and better camera. It still has home button and lightening connector for charging. It's a bargain for this price!

I purchased this for nursing school and I love that I didn’t have to spend hundreds for the latest and greatest and does everything that the other newer models do with the update.
