My wife has been bugging me to get her an iPad for about a year now saying her Surface Pro 3 is too bulky and not touch friendly enough for her couch web surfing and now, baby monitoring via app. We also did a lot of shopping for a new home recently, and multiple times I felt I couldn't get all of the detail I wanted from the pictures on just my iPhone X. So I started googling and saw Apple was rumored to be releasing a new iPad soon. I was blown away to see they were including the LATEST and second-greatest iOS chip they had on the market with the A12. Not as beefy as the A12X in the iPad Pro, but the most recent generation chip found in their newest iPhones just released 6 months ago, unlike the laggard A10 they put in 2018s iPad. The screen was also larger, the iPad thinner and the bezels smaller compared to the 9.7" iPad and so it seemed like a no-brainer. We've been super happy with this new iPad Air 3 and very reasonable priced at $499 minus the $25 for BestBuy Preorder. In terms of version, I picked the 64GB WiFi only because it was considerably cheaper than the 256GB or LTE versions. If this was a more work or travel focused device used for everything, I would've considered getting LTE or 256GB, but more likely I would've sprung for the 11" iPad Pro 2018. My wife wouldn't really be using this to take pictures/videos, or watch movies on the go, or download iOS games. It was really just a web movie streamer, web viewer, and specific app device using our home's WiFi. The only negative I have is that BestBuy didn't come through for me in terms of pre-order delivery date. They said release day of 3/26, then Friday 3/29 in-store, then delayed. I called the store and they said Apple didn't ship enough to them and they had no ETA, but didn't expect it to be more than a week. I ended up getting it a different store but that was 30 minutes away. Otherwise, very pleased with this device, its a huge upgrade from our iPad Mini 1 for iOS tablets and has all the snappiness of the A11 and then some. Its much lighter and touch friendlier than our Windows-based Surface or laptops and battery life so far is very good. I never really saw the use of a dedicated tablet, but now I'm starting to see why more people are starting to use them. As long as you don't do a TON of typing (buy the 10.5" keyboard if you do), its really an excellent experience for web/app browsing. Redfin browsing houses was so much more enjoyable with the fullscreen pics and fast navigation compared to using my phone or even the desktop app! Netflix, HBOGo, all work great as well. The HD Homerun App had some issues but I figure they will iron this out soon.
