In the past he used a PC, but that wasn't practical for the facility he's in, hence the tablet. The iPad is good looking and solidly built. The screen is excellent, and sound is good as well. I only dinged it one star because I bought it based on Apple's reputation for ease of use. But unless you are already familiar with their products, it is NOT something that an elderly person can easily learn. The interface is quirky at best. An android device would have been less expensive and probably easier to use for someone coming from a PC background. So, for Apple users, it's great, for others, just so-so.
