Customers consistently note the AirPort Express Base Station's ease of use, impressive range, and strong signal strength as significant benefits. Many appreciate its compact size and straightforward setup process, while seamless compatibility with Apple products is also frequently praised. However, some users find the price to be relatively high and express a desire for more ports. The device's performance is generally viewed favorably.

This was a bad purchase for the price. I purchased it to improve the wifi signal for my iPad, and it is constantly dropping the signal, and falling off line.

Only extends wireless range on apple networks

I bought this primarily to extend the wifi range in my home. After hours and hours of struggling, I found out that it will only do this if you have an existing apple product creating your wireless network (e.g. a time machine or something like that). This was not at all clear from the description. It will work to play itunes through a receiver that you plug it into, but will not extend your wireless network.

AirPort Express is amazing for AirPlay

Sometimes a product is much better than the raw specs would indicate and the AirPort Express is one of those devices. To me, it symbolizes an example of small details can make Apple products truly 'great'. Here are a few pros and cons of the AirPort Express based on my usage: Pros: 1. Very stable and reliable connection whether used as a wifi extender or as a standalone AirPlay hub into an AV system. There is zero lag and no lip sync issues that one had with bluetooth and other wifi-based connections. 2. The DAC for AirPlay is amazing! I tested it against both a Bang and Olufsen A9 speaker and Focal Easya and the audio when connected via the AirPort Express sounded fuller. Basically, you can connect an AirPort Express to any class of audio system and you won't get any effects of audio compression etc. Any other device just based on audio streaming quality (forget about the AirPort also being a wifi router and extender) costs at least 2x to 3x as much. 3. Excellent compact design and build quality. You can place the Express anywhere you want. It doesn't get hot and has never required a reboot. Cons: The only con I can think of is that as a router the speed is only 1/2 as much as an AirPort Extreme. I have a 300-400mbps connection which the AirPort Extreme has no problems with. The Express, unfortunately, maxes out at 50-60mbps. This has no effect on standard web browsing, or audio/video streaming for most use cases, but it is a limitation. Summary: This is a product that is greater than the sum of its parts. If you use Apple products to stream audio - the Express is a great choice.

I bought this, took it home, didn't work, called the store and they said they couldn't help me. Sent my call to Texas. They asked if Airport was a kind of computer. Explained it was a Mac based accessory, they said they don't do macs. Took it back to the store. They said all they could do would be send out a Geek for $120. I just returned. it.

    Ease of configuration is incredible

I needed a new WiFi repeater for my room after my old Linksys WRT54G finally croaked. I had heard how easy these things are to configure for a repeater, and I'm upgrading the rest of my network to 802.11 N soon, so I decided to drop the cash on this little guy. It works great, took all of 2 minutes to set up, and I haven't had to reset it once in over a month (unlike the WRT54G that I had to reset a couple of times a week). Since the rest of my wired LAN is gigabit, my only beef with it is that its ethernet ports are only 100Mbps, but that isn't a deal breaker.

just bought it, online 60 seconds later

Had 2 net gear(WNDR3700) dual band routers over the past year, both dropped connections at least once a week. Finally, bought a 3rd today. Setup on a mac was crazy. Literally online 60 seconds later. Once I plugged it in along with my modem a install window opened immediately, I named the network, put in a password, confirmed it, the next box confirmed all the network settings and I was online. I have an ethernet cable connected to my bedroom direct tv receiver so I can steam live tv broadcasts to my ipad while I am on my life-cycle doing cardio. My new router also is right next to my black and white brother laser jet printer that wasn't wireless until I plugged my new router into it. Now I can print from any device throughout my house instead of using my nice photo printer. How can so much come in such a small box ?

The AirPort Express was very difficult to install, perhaps because I was adding it to a PC based system, not sure. In the end, I had to use my iPhone to set it up instead of my PC. Also the peformance has been poor, the signal is good sometimes and not others, and the airplay feature has not worked well at all.

This just might not be the right apple router for the devices I have in my home. I had this device for over a month now but only hooked it up two days ago. Had to unhook it and hook the old Belkin back up. Would like to exchange Device for newer higher powered Belkin since that seems to work for my home.
