Any Mac user definitely needs this as a router and backup built in one. It's pretty fast for backups only gripe is no usb 3.0 but other than that solid performance.

This is my second time machine capsule. Still using the first one (about 5 year old) now for its wireless but backup died. Also use 2 Airport Extremes and between the 4 units - cover an area of approx 6,000 sq feet very well. The downside is that Apple is getting out of the wifi hardware business so I've also installed Google Wifi (3 units) that works very well but only covers about 3,000 sq feet and also have a secondary backup system. The Apple network is just great - easy to install - incredibly reliable - and great speed. So - - as long as you can get the units - you won't be disappointed with Apple wifi and the Time Machine system,

This is the perfect "set it and forget it" router. There is no complication, can be done through an iOS app and works perfectly. I've had a 1st generation for years, has never given me any issues. Mind you though, if you want to tinker with every aspect of the router, this is not for you. But if you want a reliable and simple to use router that will work without giving you a headache, this is the one to get, specially if you're looking to do Time Machine backups.

Outstanding; predictable; sleek. Super easy to set up through your iPad or iPhone. Highly recommend for anyone looking for router I have att uverse and ran into a bunch of technical hurdles with Asus and Belkin linksys. Apple product worked first time and has never failed. At first, I was looking at band width obsessing over 1900 2000 3600 AC -- which led me to buy the latest device. I was misguided. My wifi is more limited by the obsolete router ATT gave me with NO AC and an 18mb bandwidths restriction In other words the router doesn't really matter if your internet speed is limited by your service provider this device also offers a backup solution that is not internet dependent.

I know, too good to be true right? Since converting to an all Apple household about 4-5 years ago after a lifetime of PC/Windows fandom, I have never looked back. It fits my needs and offers additional stability and peace of mind that all my precious data is backed up continually through the iCloud and now in my Time Capsule. As far as a wireless router goes, it has great range and allowed me to drop my wifi extender. Very nice size and an inconspicuous design (no visible antennae). Setup was a breeze as with most Apple products. Very happy

I have had a number of Linksys, Belkin and Netgear routers over the years. My skill set allows me to configure them, but it is not what I would call fun. Have always thought the Apple router, even with built in storage, is just too expensive. Could not have been more wrong. Wish I had done this years ago. Super simple setup. Like other Apple products, it just works. Had to use a repeater to get full house coverage (downstairs and bedrooms upstairs were very weak) with other units. This gives good coverage throughout the house. The Time Machine function to automatically backup all the Macs in the house is simply a bonus. Could not be happier.

After having complications with other devices I decided just to pay the money and to get this particular item, it was the best thing I could have done not only is it a breeze to set up,but when it comes to backups I forget all about it since it automatically takes care of it for me. For me there was also a bonus, we've struggled for some time with U-verse modem reaching downstairs but after installing this our mobile devices had no problems of picking up a strong signal.

Physical set up before install was really easy. Remove from the box, connect power, and let it intialize a couple of minutes. I used my iPhone to set up the first connections to the router and to start configuring time capsule. Using the airport utility on the phone, I hit a few snags. Later on, I had to power cycle the capsule twice to get the system to connect to my MacBook Pro. This may have partially been the MacBook's fault as i had just installed Yosemite. As for the feature set, well the wifi portion is not nearly as complete as many of the other routers out there today. For example, I was disappointed in the fact that i could not easily block certain devices on the network without knowing the mac address. Also, setting up the time capsule the first time was a little unclear but it worked just fine. Overall, it's a fine unit, a bit pricey for what you get but it certainly looks nice on the desk.

Good Range & Speed, Some Limited Features

I have a new MBP retina with the 802.11ac wireless. My old 802.11n router was a few years old and having periodic dropouts anyway. So, I wanted to upgrade my router. I picked the Mac Airport Time Capsule because: it has the new "ac" protocol to use against the MBP, had the larger antenna with "pointing" feature to improve range, was from Apple (typically high quality), and had an integrated backup solution (2TB is plenty!). After about 3 months I am very satisfied, but will note some limitations in this review. Key point: I did a signal strength test with my MBP at 5 locations throughout my 3200 sq ft house using my old and new router. The Time Capsule was better by 4-5 dB on average (translates to more than twice the range at the same received signal strength) and that is pretty significant, and more importantly I notice the difference when on MBP or iPad upstairs. The better signal strength generally means faster connections if you are further from the router. It has also been reliable (not one dropout I have seen for 3 months) and has ample backup drive space. Now on the flip side, my old router had configurable passwords for the 2 and 5 GHz bands that this router doesn't have. That is disappointing as I want to reserve 5 GHz (and the ac capability) for the parents devices and not the children. I can't do that since one password controls both bands and is not configurable. Also, I can't tailor the QoS (quality of service). This is important so that when you have many devices in the household, you may sometimes want to reserve better bandwidth for the parents and limit the kids. When you have 5+ devices going, you will lose a lot of speed if you can't do this, even at 50 Mbps coming into the house. So, I am hoping Apple reads this and might provide some firmware updates that can provide these features (yeah right?).

I recently purchased a MacMini computer to replace my PC. I have a Frontier modem/router combo. I connected the Airport Time Capsule and found that my speed increased noticeably!!! I am very impressed with this router! Also, the fact that it can back up my computer to its 2G hard drive makes it even better. It gets an A++ rating from me!

I had reviewed many product informational displays regarding external HD products but this product was always most accurately represented. When I installed and set up the unit everything worked perfectly and it has helped immensely with the speed and reliability of my home network. All my visitors have used the "guest" portion of this unit and have also been pleased with this system.

For the price this should probably have 6TB drive instead of a 2TB drive. But it does work well, does not run as hot as the old Airport routers and features the much faster AC wireless networking. I like it a lot for its speed and range so far and I utilize the 2TB drive as a Timecapsule drive for my iMac - I also utilize the gigabit wired networking it has built in and that all works as expected. Good product overall, just wish it wasn't quite so expensive. One last note to the expense however- it replaced a five year old airport base station that was running strong and had had zero issues, and I have a ten year old airport express that still works. They are expensive but they are built well and built to last in my experience.

The is my second Airport product, I love the easy set up and performance. My last Airport extreme lasted 5 plus years. I have had Net Gear Lynksis, and a few others that slipped my mind that never lasted over a 1.5 years. The apple routers just seam to work better that the others. I have already recommended it to a friend. Pay the Price you will love this Device!

I looked throughout my local Best Buy store for a new router, and after comparing them all, this one was the clear winner. I am an iMac owner and a PC owner, and I also have all of the other Apple products (AppleTV, iPods, iPad, etc.). This was very simple to set up, and the signal strength is better than any router I have owned (even on the opposite side of my home from where the router is located). The auto backup for my iMac is convenient and is comforting to know all of my pictures and files are backed-up and secure. Like other Apple products, the build quality on this unit is superb, and the fact that it is an ac router means that I am future proof for the next several years. If you are looking for a new router, and want excellent range and speed look no further. Highly recommended!

This is been a great device! It keeps all my files backed up and my computer completely backed up with ease. All I have to do is leave my computer on for long enough for the device to complete the back up. It starts All by itself and there's really nothing to do. The Wi-Fi range is greater than the previous model. It does not cut out but is constantly working. I do not even have to reset it ever.

I love this Apple Time Capsule because of the easy setup and functionality. The Back To My Mac and Time Capsule are great. I have moved all my movies/videos over to this device (500GB+) and some other files. iTunes on my MacBook works great with all my media on the Time Capsule. I am very pleased with the performance of this device. I would highly recommend it to anyone using Apple products.
