Easy set up, easy to use and good volume. Looks black not space grey but not complaining

The Apple HomePod mini makes a great addition to the home. The hey siri function works great. I also like how you can link two together to create stereo sound for a TV or you can link them to create a home audio system.

I got tired of Alexa's "by the way! advertising", among other things, and got lost trying to configure Google's whatever-they-are-calling-it-this-week voice activated service. Having a lot of Apple gear already, I decided to give HomeKit a try. I use HomeKit (now Apple Home) via HomeBridge in a Raspberry Pi to control a lot of devices that are not Home(kit) compatible. It runs fine; all the more reason I am pleased. I am VERY pleased with the build quality and appearance, and the ease of setup if you have an iPhone. Not sure how it would set up otherwise, but with an iPhone, and I presume with an iPad, setup is easy as falling off a log. The sound quality is good, but be advised: I am not using my HomePod Mini for music. Just voice activation, weather reports, and answering questions. Example: "Hey, Siri, what is 274 pound converted to kilograms?" My ONE cause for four stars rather than five: there is no means to keep Siri from being a bit verbose. I would like to say "Hey, Siri, turn on piano area floor lamps", and it just does it. Maybe with a little beep or double tone like Alexa does. Instead, Siri is a bit wordy at times, other times, either nothing, or "done!" (I am using the Irish male Siri voice.) If you are using Lutron for lighting, or are buying devices labeled "HomeKit Compatible", you are all set. If you are already dialed in to, say, a bunch of cloud-based devices, or, like me, a lot of Z-Wave and Zigbee items, HomeKit may not be for you unless you use something like HomeBridge or Home Assistant to join it up.

Been using the Apple homepod Minies for a few months now and the hompods are working better than expected. Haveing over 10 Amazon Alexa Echos and Echo shows in my home for home automation. The Apple Hompods seems to be more responsive and with less errors. Now we have a total of 3 Homepod Minis, (more to come shortly) and with Apple end to end encryption and not relying on the cloud plus the new Apple Home application has been a better user experience for me over Amazon Alexa. The sound is nice and the integration and setup been very easy. With over 90 switches and outlets from Insteon using ISY 994 with Homebridge and the ISY plugin has been working beautifully. Moving  slowly to all HomeKit devices such as the Nanolefe light bulbs that support Thread working smoother than in the Amazon Alexa environment. Waiting on Matter and Thread support is only going to make things more compatible, hopefully I can use my existing Amazon Echos and devices in my Smart Home once The Echo support the new Matter protocol. The future of home automations is looking very bright.

Great sound and great bass, the only thing is that you have to have it hooked

I think the product is great and excellent and helping you manage HomeKit compatible products. The only complaint that I have is the sound quality. I know it’s a small device, but the sound is muffled at times.

Best gift I ever received! Going to buy more to make a surround sound.

Overall it’s a cool speaker. Not really sure why Siri doesn’t seem as knowledgeable as Alexa but whatever. I’m also not sure why it won’t play the clean version of songs chosen. Maybe I need to investigate that and it’s totally not a HomePod problem. Don’t understand why the cord and the box are two different colors either. Looks kind of weird. Well overall it does what it should do. Cool purchase.

If you are already in the Apple “ecosystem”, the Apple HomePod is the best choice for a voice assistant. I feel Apple products are much more secure than other products, so if a voice assistant is going to “listen” I feel better that Apple is the company “listening”. Quality is good and sound is clear. The mini is good as a single speaker or to add to a system of multiple HomePods/HomePod Minis.
