I was apprehensive about buying a quality smart speaker, but the overall experience was positive. The sound quality is exceptional considering I use Apple Music and not low compression audio formats. It’s surprisingly loud. A great ancillary product for music streaming. I do not use the speaker as a smart speaker exclusively, so I can not say much about that aspect, but I was surprised how the speaker could pick up “hey siri” while music was playing. It works well with basic commands.

I’ve always been an Apple fan. The Home Pod is everything I want and all that I need. I really love that I can ask Siri to play my music at anytime. I don’t want or need a Bluetooth speaker with a “bass boost”. I don’t want one that makes your ears ring like a transistor radio (yep I’m that old). I appreciate a speaker like the HomePod that can calculate the size of a room and play your music the way it was meant to be heard.

It can be amazing. If you listen to a lot of acoustic or lighter music this thing is insane! I tried it on everything I could think of, with a lot of it being country music, into so lighter stuff like Train with fantastic results. The sound much like a Bose is super rich, and it carries well, and when you pair it with a second one to make it stereo sound it is absolutely fantastic. BUT if you listen to pop, and r&b...things which get into heavy bass it can leave you lacking. It knows its range, and bass drops out, or does this odd substitution of "bass" when it is too much. I tried it with podcasts and it was decent as well. But then you have SIRI. Lets face it, I love Apple, but SIRI is a bare minimum assistant, who even after all of these years gets it wrong, or can't do what you ask. Ask her for a song by title and she plays the first that comes to mind, if you don't know the author you better look it up. There is not touch screen or info on the unit, and it is a bit clunky trying to use with your phone as it keeps trying to use you phone to play music, unless you cut back to get to the home pod to change it. All in all it had amazing sound for most music, but not all. And I do like my bass. There is no EQ so you can't adjust it at all, you get what Apple wants you to hear. Siri needs a SERIOUS upgrade across all apple products, but especially this for it to be a home assistant. Sure buying two makes the stereo pair MUCH better, but in the end I couldn't justify $700 to listen to some of the music I like and a glitchy assistant. In the end I returned it, and will probably just put a wifi receiver on a better home stereo.

First let me start by saying. If you are looking for a speaker that has great sound quality then this is the speaker for you. It’s loud and the sound quality on it is just amazing! I don’t typically leave reviews but this one item is worth it. Siri plays everything I ask her to. She can hear me from the other room in my home. It stays connected to my phone so even if I get a call I’m able to take it from the speaker its been one of the best investments I’ve made by far!

I love the HomePod Mini when it works. I have reset the unit many times, but the issues continue. If it worked every time I said hello, it would be a 5 star.

This is the best solution for homekit, as it is not too terribly expensive and works a voice assistant as well.

The HomePod is a great home audio device. The sound quality is exceptional and truly does what it says! It uses internal microphones not just for commands but to adjust sound quality to reach the center of a room properly and judge its distance from walls. As a stereo pair, we use this in our living room for both ambient music and theater sound.

I bought this as I needed a new HomeKit hub since my Apple TV gen 3 was no longer compatible after my iPhone 6 stopped getting updates and I was forced to get another phone. Apple is great with finding ways to force you to buy more of their junk. I only use this thing for my home automation. How does it sound? Well it sounds like a F-art coming out of a tin can! Believe me it’s that terrific!!! Did you know this thing has Siri, the voice assistant? If you thought she was politically correct before hang on tight because I think she got an upgrade and she gets offended by asking the weather and “won’t respond to that”!!! This thing also flashes stupid rainbow colors when it talks to you because I guess that’s cool or something. This thing is about the size of a softball. I have been tempted to pitch this thing across the room at least 10 times now. The next time it says something beyond stupid or talks about something I didn’t ask for I will test the durability of this product! Stay tuned and I will add my second review at a later date on how poorly this was manufactured. The plug for this gem is a great size if your looking to hide it in any form. I promise you that you will not loose the plug as Apple was kind enough to make it so that it sticks out at least an inch and a half from the wall. So to recap my review, just buy it because if your reading this review then you already know your going to by it so just do it.

For the price, the HomePod can't be beat. The HomePod is essentially a "professional" sound system (without all the bulk). The sound is clear and loud (with plenty of base). My only gripe is that the software needs some work. Sometimes Siri forgets the HomeKit devices that we have connected (we end up having to use the iPhone app to turn them on / off).

    Great Speaker, lousy smart assistant.

Full disclosure I bought this knowing it was limited in it's capabilities, I am just writing this as an overall review of the speaker. The sound quality is by far greater than what you are going to get out of Alexa and Google home, however, if you are buying this as a smart assistant or a smart home controller, you may want to hold off. The home pod is only compatible with devices that are home kit enabled, which is a small collection and tends to be premium and pricey options. Surprisingly, the HomePod does not control the apple tv, so if voice control for television is something you want it will be best to look at Alexa with fire tv or Google and ChromeCast. Lack of support for popular streaming apps is a turn off as well. You can very easily stream music from your iphone to the speaker, but it is an extra step that ignores the basic premise of the speaker being an easy to use one stop for entertainment. If the sound quality from the Google or Amazon offerings is a big turn off, I recommend looking at a Sonos Speaker, unless you absolutely have to have the Apple brand or Apple Music is your sole provider or musical content. However, the speaker is not good at finding a song for you. Both Alexa and Google are much better at identifying lyrics and getting you the song. Home Pod and Siri can only do this if the title of the song is in the lyric you give it. Now where this speaker shines is its sound quality. Bass is nice and deep, and one home pod is capable of filling a 2200 sqft house with sound. Additionally, the latest updates have allowed for you to place a second home pod or compatible speaker in the same area to provide with stereoscopic surround sound. Set up for this is also automatic and very easy to configure. If you are only concerned with overall sound quality while maintaining a device that seamlessly integrates into the Apple environment, then this speaker is for you. If you are OK with a premium price tag, and waiting for possible updates that are promised to add features, this is for you. However, if you want a smart assistant that can control features in your house, I have to say go for one of the others available.
