It sounds good, but I already have sound systems

Is the sound better? Than what an Echo Dot? Yes but the 3rd generation Echo is nearly the same and about the same price, comes with a built in hub. If you are going to compare it to the new Dot, right now for under 40 you get the LED clock, and under 30 on the regular Dot you get three of them to be used in three different rooms. I already have sound systems in three rooms, so Bluetooth to my pre-existing sound systems just make people buying this look like idiots. Very few smart home products are compatible and most of the ones that are, are among the most expensive of the type of product they are, the only reason for most people to buy these over an Echo or Google is only because they are Apple fan boys and girls. You can get screen devices for less than this, and honestly if I want good sound I will hook my phone to one of my pre-existing sound systems as it is capable of playing UHD/lossless sound played through my Denon/Polk system with two 150w RMS subs that go down to 26 Hz. If there is any problem integrating the Echo or Home systems with Apple, that is on Apple because they want to empty your bank account as much as you will allow them. I have ten Echo and one Google devices in my place, the only one that cost more was my first generation Show that I got on sale for around $140. Everything except my Ring doorbell are compatible with both and nothing is compatible with Home Pod. To put this in perspective, two of my smart home devices were even compatible with Cortana. I put value as poor and ease of use because I have a whole house full of smart devices including multiple cameras, sensors, lights, thermostat, streaming devices, and smart TVs not one works with Home Pod, so I would have to totally replace all of the devices, just to get better sound? Sorry an Echo Dot with a better sounding Bluetooth speaker would still be cheaper than this, I could add a Bluetooth speaker and a battery pack to a Dot making it portable and still probably be within plus or minus $5 or less. There are just too many reasons why this is a waste of money.

Smart, But In A Different Way

This speaker is supposed to be a smart speaker but sort of falls short of being one. The competition has it beat in terms of voice assistants and smart home capabilities. However, this speaker really shines when you start listening to music. It adapts to the room and allows the best listening experience I have ever heard. No matter what room the speaker is in it sounds amazing and like it was meant for that room. If apple can get Siri up to par with the competition then this smart speaker will knock them out.

    Apple Homepod Mini

The sound is awesome. But my only negative is that its wired. It has to be plugged in for it to work. I was not aware that. Otherwise I would’ve passed on it and got something else. I’m thinking it comes with a cord that you attach to the device and charge it. That’s my only issue. So back to Best Buy I go. I’ll buy another Bluetooth speaker that i can detach from the device.

I got this as a Christmas present and have loved it so far. The sound quality is amazing and it is loud. If you are an Apple fan you will NEED one too! But you need to be deep in the Apple ecosystem (Apple Music, iPhone, iPad, iPod) because you can not ask Siri to play music from Spotify or any other music service than Apple music. Also you will need an Apple product to set it up. The best part is that it can hear me say “hey Siri” even when the volume is way up.

Does Not Work/Sync with Apple’s Podcast App

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The Apple “Podcasts” app sadly does not work as minimally expected even with Apple’s own HomePod mini speakers. In iOS 17, 16, & maybe even since iOS 15 (and while maintaining the latest OS or firmware on the HomePod mini) whenever a podcast is played through that particular app, at least, on either of my HomePod minis the podcast episode doesn’t sync with the iPhone’s own Podcast app. The result: you lose track of where you were in the middle of a longer podcast and you are forced to restart the episode if you need to switch back over to your phone OR you don’t get ‘credit’ for listening to podcast episodes and then you must manually mark it as listened to later or find out when you accidentally re-listen to a podcast away from this HomePod mini speaker and on your iPhone. Maybe I’m just being petty here, but given how much I paid Apple for both of my HomePod minis (which have now lost over half of their value/usage functionality for my use case) & my iPhone, I expect just a little more from Apple. *sigh* p.s. I have alerted Apple to this issue directly in the past on at least 1 or 2 occasions and it has yet to be addressed.

    HomePod Rocks!!!!

This little speaker packs a punch. Wow!!! I love it. If your Invested in Apple then this is a must have. Apple Music works perfectly on here with Siri. She plays everything I ask her too. Turns the volume down whatever I need. There’s not much too it. Remember you need Apple Music and you have too keep HomePod plugged in at all times. It’s not wireless. I find it better to be plugged in instead of charging on a battery for hours.

    Very Nice Piece of Tech

I just purchased my HomePod today on Black Friday after looking into it for quite some time. Me being in the Apple ecosystem and watching many reviews on different smart speakers such as Alexa and SONOS, this Apple HomePod really is a very useful piece of technology to control other smart Home accessories like lights and locks and sounds amazing for the size. In my opinion this piece is well worth the money.

    Cuts out constantly

The sound wasn’t bad especially for the size, but it cuts out constantly. Apparently this is a common problem with the HomePod mini. Apple blames it on your WiFi router settings of course. I don’t have that problem with my old JBL Bluetooth speaker. Set up with the home app wasn’t entirely straightforward. Worked differently for the iPhone than with the iPad. I ended up returning the HomePod mini, very disappointing.

    Very bulky and heavy

When I first bought this, I had the Amazon Alexa, but I would still rather have Alexa over this. I am a huge apple fan, as I have the latest MacBook Pro, Apple Watch, iPhone X, iPad Pro, Apple Pencil, but the HomePod could use work. It sounds and works great, but it can't order you things, make phone calls. On top of that, it has no personality traits and can not access wifi lightbulbs.
