Open box item did not work at all. Spent too much time with geek squad and Apple just to find it was faulty.

i was unsure about getting this speaker but this speaker has the best sound quality I've ever heard, i thought that siri was going to suck but it actually works better then on the phone. i can actually talk to siri like normal and she works every time. the bass i can feel through the floor and the sound is crisp and clear, i think apple will make siri more capable of features in updates so im not worried about that, its a little pricey but i think its well worth the money now

    Technology Permitting...

This has the potential to be an amazing product. Overall, the build quality is great and so is the sound (it could get a little louder but I find myself hardly needing more volume). The touch controls are fine, but sometimes bothersome if you accidentally trigger a command when you want to turn the volume up or down. The problem is, this just shouldn't be used solely as a speaker. For the same amount, you could get a far superior speaker. To make this speaker worth the purchase, you would need to utilize its voice assistant and smart home capabilities; and, these features are incredibly half-baked and cumbersome. Siri herself is fine but still worse than Google's assistant (my only other experience). However, Siri connects to very few apps and services in comparison to the competition. Also, the more Apple products you have, the more irritating the assistant is, as "Hey Siri" triggers all of your devices, often leading to my phone or iPad running commands I wanted the HomePod to run. Lastly, my main reason for getting a HomePod was for Apple's smart home environment, HomeKit. The HomePod mini supposedly offers new technologies that increase HomeKit's reliability and efficiency (mainly Thread protocol) compared to other smart hubs and assistants. The problem is, HomeKit, one of the driving factors behind purchasing a HomePod, is absolutely terrible. The pairing of smart devices is tiresome, the UI is slow, confusing, and inefficient, and the software often just doesn't work. My phone's HomeKit app, for example, hasn't been working for a week. So, if I want to utilize my smart home devices (which thankfully aren't that plentiful), I have to walk over, manually touch the HomePod (so I don't yell "Hey Siri" and trigger my other devices that HomeKit has decided to give up on), ask Siri to turn on my lights, and hope it works—like a light switch that takes 20 seconds to turn on. Oh, and if you want to address devices individually (dimming, change color, turn one off; keep another on), good luck. All of this is to say: if you want a speaker, but something cheaper or of higher quality at the same price. If you want a voice assistant, just use your phone (or Google/Alexa). If you want a smart home hub, well, find something else or wait. After all, the foundation is there, it's the software that is lacking. Maybe in a year, it will actually be worth it and the new technology can actually be utilized.

    HomePod is Great!

Despite what the critics (who say the same of every Apple product) say the HomePod is excellent, and a wonderful addition to the Apple ecosystem. Granted, if you use another ecosystem or a variety of tech from different companies the HomePod is not for you. But for someone who uses Apple exclusively and wants a killer speaker that works seamlessly with other Apple products, it is a home run! Siri answers anything I ask appropriately, and the sound quality is superb. Other than for music, I love the ease of pairing it to my Apple TV and filling the room with audio when I'm watching movies. Five stars!

    Pretty Awesome

One of the things that frustrates me about customer reviews is that they complain about what something DOESN'T have and not what it does. The HomePod was just released. The focus was on the hardware side of things (Hence all the positive comments about how amazing the sound quality is) In terms of the software related side. Be patient... Its Apple! It's going to get better. It was a smart move on their part to focus on the physical aspect of the device rather than releasing bigger, better versions. Get the hardware right, and then focus on the software and provide updates to improve the overall experience. My personal review. I was pretty skeptical about the sound and was surprisingly shocked when I ended up returning my Bose Soundtouch 20 and replacing it with the HomePod. I plan on purchasing a second one and setting it up stereo and testing it out by watching a movie. The overall feel and look of the speaker is pretty awesome. It's heavy, the mesh surrounding feels very well put together. The setup is easy, Siri is fine for what I need. She will improve over time though. Otherwise I'm totally happy with this purchase.

Nice looking, good sound The mini pod is a little slow to respond Often starts playing music without my asking for music. I’ve had problems getting the mini to play the music. I want to hear even when I give the title of the music it plays what it wants to play.

This is my first smart speaker and I was hesitant to spend this much for the HomePod but it was worth it. It was easy to set up and easy to use. I can ask questions, get answers, and endless supply of music. Also, the speaker quality is simply amazing. It auto calibrates for each song based on the room positioning, so you always get the best sound quality. Overall, I highly recommend the Apple HomePod
