    Incredible Sound Quality

I’ve been blown away by the quality of the sound from this pint sized speaker. The level of engineering it took to extract the audiophile grade sound from this speaker is remarkable. I”m a musician who listens to a very broad spectrum of genres, and this speaker handles them all flawlessly. Music is once again painting a beautiful hue of colors in our household on a daily basis thanks to the HomePod. The sound is very reminiscent of the days of old when I would listen to records on my friends record player through Cerwin Vega speakers. Very warm, clean and pristine sound.

    Excellent With Even More Potential

I first awarded this product four stars, but realized I was holding the product to Apple standards, and were it made by someone else I would've given it five, so I changed it to five. Awesome sound with one caveat I'll mention at the end. Very accurate with voice recognition, the whole package. Wish the software update was out to make a second HomePod stereo. The one sound caveat previously mentioned is that on certain songs the sound is so bass heavy that the bass sounds unnatural and the mids are masked a bit; overall it misrepresents the song. That problem is precisely why I don't own the even more problematic bass leaning Beats Headphones. Overall highly satisfied with the HomePod.

Don't ask it to play NPR

I just purchased a HP Mini to try out, and it looks like its “computational audio” is going to be a deal breaker for me–at least until they supply them with some form of tone control or EQ. I want to use it primarily as an intelligent radio for my kitchen, but its reproduction of NPR’s male speaking voices is to my ears very unpleasant, chesty and boomy. At first I thought I might be dealing with boundary effect, but it’s the same no matter where I put it (or my head). I suspect it’s too smart for that sort of tactic and that whatever “bass extension” algorithm they’re using to make (pop) music sound (fairly) good wherever you put it is somehow overemphasizing the 125kHz octave. Too bad, I guess I’ll be returning it.

Wanted to love it, but too many issues.

I bought this for my desk to listen to podcasts and a little music from my iPhone, and there are always issues whenever skipping at all. For example, whenever an ad comes on, I click the 15 second skip a few times and then the HomePod completely stops playing, and the only way to resume it is by killing the app (doesn't matter if it's youtube, podcasts app, spotify, etc.) and restarting the audio or by disconnecting your phone from the homepod and reconnecting it. If you're buying this to use as an external speaker for your computer. there's a noticeable lag with the audio of about a second when you pause and play. So when you pause the audio, you have to wait a second or two before it actually stops. There are also a lot of issues with Siri - when you need to use it, either both your phone and the homepod go off and conflict with each other and it ends up not working, or the homepod listens and says it completed the request but then it actually did nothing. The only good things I can say about this is it looks good, it's compact, the audio quality is good, and the tap to transfer audio is convenient (doesn't always work on the first try but it does about 75% of the time).

I wanted to give this time four stars but could not. Although it plays clearly and loud, I do not like that it is not wireless and it cannot be used with other devices other than Apple. It takes some time to figure out but overall good product.

    Little Pod, Big Sound

I told myself I was not going to splurge on this little new device from Apple, but since I have an Apple Music subscription and love listening to music, I couldn’t resist. I’m very glad that I did! The sound is as good as the critics say. My impression is that the HomePod separates each ‘layer’ of the song into vocals and invdividual instruments, making each sound its absolute best. I have a BOSE speaker that just doesn’t come close in terms of sound quality without distortion when increasing volume. Overall, I’m highly pleased with the purchase. I personally do not mind the limitations with Siri; I knew that Siri still needs work when I made the purchase.

Tried using as a speaker for my desk. Sound wasn't that great and the connection kept getting interrupted. Most importantly, it doesn't support spotify natively. Returned and got an Echo instead which sounds way better and supports spotify for 30% less.

I love Apple products!!! But, I’ve done a comparison side by side of the Home Pod and the Bose Soundlink Resolve Plus, as well as the Bose Soundlink Mini II. Both of the Bose portable speakers easily outperformed the Apple Home Pod. The Home Pod bass sounded “boomy” while the Bose products sound deep and no boominess. The Bose speakers had more volume and cleaner crisper sound. And they are cheaper than Home Pod. Home Pod is designed to work only with Apple Music. However, Apple Music works with the Bose Speakers just as well, and Siri commands work well with Bose, using your Apple devices linked to the Bose speakers via Bluetooth. Home Pod is overpriced for the quality you get. You are better off to use your Apple device (iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac Book, etc) paired with the Bose Soundlink Resolve or Bose Soundlink Mini II. And the Bose speakers are wireless and play for 12 to 16 hours before needing recharged. The Home Pod is not portable. It operates via a 110V power cord. I’d wait for a future version of Home Pod that’s wireless and with improved sound quality.

I don’t love this product, but I decided to keep the three I purchased because it works nicely in a room for ambient sounds at night and it doesn’t look cheap in a well decorated room Pros: Integrates nicely with other Apple Products. Integrated temperature sensor Makes a good noise machine for a bedroom to help with sleeping Cons: Siri is 50/50 Sound quality is surprisingly bad across multiple services. Maybe I should have expected less from a $100 smart speaker, but the 5 star reviews gush over the sound. I would not recommend for music.

The mini is a great addition for those with an AppleTV allowing you to stream audio to the device. The small form factor allow you to place the Homepod mini anywhere without sacrificing space.

It sounds good, but I already have sound systems

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Is the sound better? Than what an Echo Dot? Yes but the 3rd generation Echo is nearly the same and about the same price, comes with a built in hub. If you are going to compare it to the new Dot, right now for under 40 you get the LED clock, and under 30 on the regular Dot you get three of them to be used in three different rooms. I already have sound systems in three rooms, so Bluetooth to my pre-existing sound systems just make people buying this look like idiots. Very few smart home products are compatible and most of the ones that are, are among the most expensive of the type of product they are, the only reason for most people to buy these over an Echo or Google is only because they are Apple fan boys and girls. You can get screen devices for less than this, and honestly if I want good sound I will hook my phone to one of my pre-existing sound systems as it is capable of playing UHD/lossless sound played through my Denon/Polk system with two 150w RMS subs that go down to 26 Hz. If there is any problem integrating the Echo or Home systems with Apple, that is on Apple because they want to empty your bank account as much as you will allow them. I have ten Echo and one Google devices in my place, the only one that cost more was my first generation Show that I got on sale for around $140. Everything except my Ring doorbell are compatible with both and nothing is compatible with Home Pod. To put this in perspective, two of my smart home devices were even compatible with Cortana. I put value as poor and ease of use because I have a whole house full of smart devices including multiple cameras, sensors, lights, thermostat, streaming devices, and smart TVs not one works with Home Pod, so I would have to totally replace all of the devices, just to get better sound? Sorry an Echo Dot with a better sounding Bluetooth speaker would still be cheaper than this, I could add a Bluetooth speaker and a battery pack to a Dot making it portable and still probably be within plus or minus $5 or less. There are just too many reasons why this is a waste of money.

Smart, But In A Different Way

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This speaker is supposed to be a smart speaker but sort of falls short of being one. The competition has it beat in terms of voice assistants and smart home capabilities. However, this speaker really shines when you start listening to music. It adapts to the room and allows the best listening experience I have ever heard. No matter what room the speaker is in it sounds amazing and like it was meant for that room. If apple can get Siri up to par with the competition then this smart speaker will knock them out.

    Apple Homepod Mini

The sound is awesome. But my only negative is that its wired. It has to be plugged in for it to work. I was not aware that. Otherwise I would’ve passed on it and got something else. I’m thinking it comes with a cord that you attach to the device and charge it. That’s my only issue. So back to Best Buy I go. I’ll buy another Bluetooth speaker that i can detach from the device.
