Surprisingly good sound.
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was really impressed with these the first time I turned the music on in my house. I got one for the kitchen and one for the bathroom. They’re perfect for these spots because they take up so little space. In a small space like an average sized bathroom in hey really shine because of the room gain you get with the bass. But the sound really blew me away when I went upstairs and was directly above our downstairs bathroom and could actually hear and feel the tiny speaker through the floor. The intercom function is useful and Siri really does seem to be more well tuned on this than even my iPhone. If you’re in the Apple ecosystem these things are a no brainer at the price.

Very high quality, more reliable than competitors
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've tried all of the smart speakers, and really think Apple has the best. I've bought full Alexa and Google Home setups, and ended up returning them. They will advertise they do all of these things, but you may be able to get it to work once, then you're just out of luck. Nothing but constant problems. Automations never worked. Anything even mildly complex beyond "Alexa, turn this on", they just struggle with. Third-party skills are usually incredibly poorly developed and barely function. I thought Google Home was a lot better than Alexa, but both of them had non-stop problems. Amazon devices seem to be incredibly cheaply made, mainly software. I've been over at family members houses and randomly their echo speaker will start playing someone else's recordings. Just all around really terrible frustrating experiences. I've been getting into the Apple ecosystem lately, and decided to give HomePods a try. Most Apple smart home devices are quite a bit more expensive than their Amazon/Google counterpart (although Google's prices have been coming up, hopefully means better quality), but with Apple you really get what you pay for. Never really had any problems with HomePods. I really like streaming audio all throughout my home, it has worked nearly flawlessly. I bought some more expensive Phillips Hue lights. Before, with smart lights, they would randomly disconnect and you'd have to re-set them up, it was ridiculous, with Apple HomeKit and these Hue lights they never have any issues. Audio quality on HomePod minis is also a whole lot better than echo or google home speakers. The downside to Apple smart home devices is they don't have as much functionality. I think mainly in terms of third-party support. For example, I have a Shark smart vacuum that with the Amazon and Google speakers, in theory, you should be able to tell it to clean a room. In practice it almost never worked. Even with an Xbox you're supposed to be able to tell it to turn on your xbox or load a specific game, or to show your security cameras. This really never worked right for me either. So, with Apple it doesn't have as much functionality from third-parties, but from my experience what it's missing really didn't work for the most part on their competitors platforms, so it's really not missing out on much. But like with other Apple products, they don't sell you something that doesn't work. It's very high quality, music sounds amazing, the microphone does a great job of picking up on your voice. I do wish they'd add a few things though, like being able to tell Siri to play an audiobook rather than having to airplay it, it would be cool if you could get notifications from your phone on these, and I think integration with Apple TV could be better, although I think the recent updates were supposed to add on that.

Lives up to the hype and then some
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the best sounding smart speaker on the market hands down. The sound is crisp and clean and the bass is deep but balanced to perfection. Warning...this speaker only works with iOS devices and you need an Apple Music subscription. Here are a few great features: 1. Siri works great for music searches. 2. Siri will read and reply to texts hands free. 3. Siri will give you current traffic and tell you how long to reach a destination. 4. You can use the HomePod with AirPlay to hear the audio from movies, games, or control Spotify. 5. Siri gives you weather info and sports info including current scores. Bottom line...the HomePod works as advertised with Apple devices and services. This smart speaker is for audio and not for shopping by voice or making calls like an Amazon Echo.

Excellent Little Speaker, just not for me.
|Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.[Employee of bestbuy] Full Disclosure - I did end up returning this HomePod. I just don't think the concept is for me. That said, I was really impressed by this little speaker. The amount and quality of the sound that came out of this little orb was nothing short of incredible! The main reason why I bought this speaker is because it can be an Apple Home Hub with Matter support, which is very important for smart homes. However, the Apple TV can also provide the same experience, and I don't really use speakers, so the Apple TV made more sense for me. Still, this speaker was really impressive in it's quality, was simple to use, and I LOVED the blue color that I purchased. If I listened to more media out loud, rather than with my AirPods, this would have been a no-brainer.

||Posted . Good Sound - Apple ecosystem
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Everyone knows the weaknesses of Siri. I believe they are related to Apple's (up until now) refusal to let 3rd party apps on (unlike Amazon or Google). So no discussion of that. Pros: Sounds MUCH better than Echo dot. Fills my home office almost completely. Much better bass than expected. Really small. Easy to hide/remove from sight. Obviously good integration into Apple ecosystem Cons: Expensive when compared to other entry level items Siri (I don't consider this a Con but many do) What's with this crazy power arrangement that really makes an item that should be portable not portable? The unit can be separated from the USB charger but doesn't have batteries?!? Really odd. Make it battery or make it plug in. It doesn't do either all that well.

Great sound, good IoT, OK overall
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got a couple of these HomePod Minis as open-box/used condition. They were actually in really great near-new condition and work great. Definitely great value and worth the purchase at 1/2 price used! I've had Google Assistant as well as a couple Alexa echos. I'm mostly in the Apple eco-system and have wanted to try the homepod for a while. So, review and comparisons ensue ... Sound: Hands down these homepod minis beat both Alexa echo and dot, and Google. Not even close. Both Alexa and Google are dull with little dynamic range, flat and muddy. These have great clarity and range. Clearly too small to be really strong in low-end, but surprisingly good overall! IoT: So far the homepod wins out. I know many will disagree strongly, so let me explain. NONE of the platforms have got it perfect and none of them will work out of the box with all protocols and platforms. I lived with Alexa only for several years and at first I really liked all the skills and integrations - probably more comprehensive than the others out-of-the-box. That said, I got SOOOO sick if it crashing, failing and losing skill settings completely on a very regular basis. I spent WAAAAY too much time troubleshooting and fixing Alexa skills, often requiring deleting everything and starting over. Sooo done with that! Google isn't even worth mentioning, IMO. So, I'm giving the homepods a try as my main IoT hub and assistant. I should note that to integrate the non-homekit devices, I have deployed an RPI device running Homebridge and Scrypted. I've also toyed with HomeAssistant, but for the devices I have HomeBridge is better for me by a good margin. For my use, this setup for IoT has proven to be far more robust, flexible and responsive than Alexa ever was. Internet: Alexa wins by a good chunk. Ask Alexa a general question and she'll give you an answer straight up - ad nauseam at times! Ask the homepod the same question and more often than not she'll only suggest opening your iPhone to look it up - boo! I think Alexa is a little better with games as well (Arkinator!), but we rarely play anything. Can't comment on Google, unplugged that years ago. Listening in: I can't comment on which device may be more secure (almost certainly Apple), or which one listens-in more. What I'm referring to here is more about it waking up when you want it to ... and maybe when you don't! I think Alexa is a bit better at waking up when you call on her. The homepod seems to get lost with ambient noise more. A little frustrating at times to have to repeat commands or yell at the homepod a bit more. They both seem to wake up on false calls - like something said from the TV - at the same rate. Overall I give the homepod the win for my use. I still have my Echos plugged in, but they haven't gotten called on since I deployed the homepods.

Don’t be fooled by its small stature.
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There’s no question that the HomePod Mini is a tall order against a similar priced Amazon Alexa but there is less to choose between them than you think. If you’re fully bought in to Apple Music and Apple Home then it’s a no brainer. The good news is that it sound amazing for something so small. Setup is dead easy and streaming music either by doing the “Hey Siri” command or by using iOS or IPadOS AirPlay is similarly simple. It also looks way better than an Alexa or Alex Dot. If you’re wholly Android and don’t use Apple Music then you’re better off with a different device,

Absolutely Fantastic Sound & Seamless Setup!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Apple HomePod mini has completely exceeded my expectations! Connecting it to my Samsung TV and Soundbar through Apple TV was an incredibly simple and intuitive process—Apple’s ecosystem just works flawlessly. The sound quality is phenomenal—rich, clear, and immersive. But the unexpected bonus? I can listen to TV shows and movies directly through the HomePod mini, keeping the audio focused near me without blasting the TV late at night. It’s a game-changer for late-night watching! If you’re looking for a compact, high-quality speaker that integrates effortlessly with Apple TV, I highly recommend the HomePod mini!

MINI Product and Price! GIGANTIC sound!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have two HomePods I’ve been using for about a year now, and I absolutely love them! This is why when I was ready to add to my sound system, I was intrigued by the HomePod Mini. It’s compact, and when I say compact, it’s REALLY TINY, and it comes at a miniature price too! However, the sound this little thing produces is what really sells the product! I was shocked that it could compete with my HonePod!! If you are on a budget but want to have the Apple smart speakers as part of your home tech., I suggest the HomePod Mini! You won’t regret this purchase!

A Compact Smart Speaker for Apple Enthusiasts
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Apple HomePod Mini is a sleek, compact smart speaker that delivers impressive performance for its size. Its design is minimalistic and fits seamlessly into most home setups. The sound quality is commendable, with balanced audio and surprisingly deep bass for such a small device. However, it doesn't compare to larger, more premium speakers. Siri integration is smooth but limited compared to competitors like Alexa or Google Assistant, especially in terms of third-party app compatibility. It shines in Apple-centric ecosystems, seamlessly integrating with other Apple devices and offering features like Handoff. While the price is competitive, it might not be the best choice for non-Apple users due to its limited cross-platform functionality. Overall, the HomePod Mini is a great option for Apple loyalists seeking a compact and stylish smart speaker with decent sound quality.

Excellent Sound and Smart Home Hub, But Siri Needs
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The HomePod mini is a fantastic addition to my home ecosystem. For its compact size, the sound quality is great—it easily fills the room and handles daily music playback beautifully. I use it daily and have successfully integrated it into my smart home, including setting up an automation to use music as my morning alarm, which works flawlessly. The seamless setup and powerful integration with Apple HomeKit are huge wins for the device. However, Siri definitely needs work. While basic commands are fine, the voice assistant frequently struggles with more complex requests or understanding context. I sincerely hope future software updates bring better, more responsive functionality to Siri to truly unlock the potential of the HomePod mini. Overall, it's a solid smart speaker and a great smart home hub.

HomePod mini is an excellent buy
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this HomePod mini to pair with my first one and to use with my Apple TV. The sound is great and it fills the entire room. My first HomePod mini was an excellent buy and sounded great too. I also have a HomePod upstairs and am able to use it as an intercom with the two that are downstairs. The functionality of Siri has improved over the years and it comes in handy to select music, ask about the weather, etc., with a simple, “Hey Siri.” The HomePod mini sounds great and looks great too. I am very pleased with my purchase.
