Great Entry Point into Apple Ecosystem

    Posted .

I've had the big Homepod for a few years now and love it, so comparing the Homepod Mini to it is not really fair but that's my main point of reference. The Mini puts out decent sound but is a litte "tinny" in any larger room and not mind blowing. Works best in a smaller bedroom and benefits from being in a corner to get better bass, and as such I think the main use for the Mini is to add music and Siri to more rooms in your house or as your first entry point into the Apple ecosystem if you already have iPhone/Mac or Homekit devices in your life. Obviously Apple Music is the perfect match for this. Sometimes the larger Homepod goes on sale for $200, and I would rather have that deal than two $99 Homepod minis personally. Finally a little nit-pick, the wall plug for the gray Mini is white (see photo) which is a minor detail, but would awesome if it matched the gray. All in all a nice addition if you're in the Apple eco system.

A good upgrade from Google Home

I recently switched from Google Home to the HomePod Mini, and it’s been a fantastic upgrade. Here’s why: Audio Quality: Despite its compact size, the HomePod Mini delivers rich, clear sound that outperforms my previous Google Home devices. Apple Ecosystem Integration: Seamless integration with my iPhone and iPad makes daily tasks more efficient. Siri’s voice recognition and quick response times are a notable improvement. Homebridge Flexibility: Homebridge allows me to integrate a wide range of peripherals not natively supported by HomeKit. While it requires some technical know-how to set up, the customization it offers is worth it. User Experience: The setup process is straightforward, and the Home app on iOS is user-friendly. Touch controls are responsive and add a nice tactile element. Design: The HomePod Mini’s sleek, minimalist design fits well with any decor, and its fabric mesh exterior enhances its acoustic performance.

    Apple HomePod “mini” review

I have three Apple HomePods which I love. And now I have three “mini” Pods which, for 40% of the cost, compare well to my HomePods - easy setup, good sound and great utility. While the sound is not as “full/rich” as the larger (and more expensive) HomePods, it is very good and because of their smaller size you have more flexibility as to where you put them. I appreciate the ease with which you can pair them and I particularly like the intercom capability. Obviously I recommend them.

Excellent Sound and Smart Home Hub, But Siri Needs

The HomePod mini is a fantastic addition to my home ecosystem. For its compact size, the sound quality is great—it easily fills the room and handles daily music playback beautifully. I use it daily and have successfully integrated it into my smart home, including setting up an automation to use music as my morning alarm, which works flawlessly. The seamless setup and powerful integration with Apple HomeKit are huge wins for the device. However, Siri definitely needs work. While basic commands are fine, the voice assistant frequently struggles with more complex requests or understanding context. I sincerely hope future software updates bring better, more responsive functionality to Siri to truly unlock the potential of the HomePod mini. Overall, it's a solid smart speaker and a great smart home hub.

The Apple HomePod mini has been a fantastic addition to my space. It connects seamlessly to my iPhone, making it super easy to play music, take calls, or control smart devices with just a voice command or tap. The sound quality is surprisingly impressive for its size — rich, balanced, and fills the room beautifully. Whether I’m listening to music, a podcast, or using it as a speakerphone, everything sounds crystal clear. It’s compact, stylish, and fits perfectly into any room. If you’re already in the Apple ecosystem, the HomePod mini feels like a natural (and smart) upgrade.

Sound quality is pretty good with impressive bass and clear sound. But the only issue is with connectivity while using with multiple devices. I used with Mac and iPhone but every time after playing from Mac it was unable to connect to iPhone so I had to reset the HomePod. Also, it only supports Apple Music.

What is not to love about this smart speaker? Some audiophiles out there will say that it doesn't have the right sound, or it doesn't fill the room...that's all crazy talk! For the size and price of this speaker, it has wonderful sound that is more than enough to fill the room. You can't compare everything to a system that costs thousands of dollars, but you can enjoy the equipment that you have...and this is a great little speaker. The setup is easy, and Siri can hear you whisper from across the room...which is slightly freaky, but good when you need to control this thing. Pair it with a modern iPhone and you have even more control on your screen. Want to take that music on the road? Just hold that iPhone near the top and instantly the music picks up on your phone...or vise versa. I have small smart speakers from other companies, and this one beats them all. To be fair, it is also more expensive than the others. If you want good sound from Apple Music, Pandora, any other streamer, or just from your local iPhone library, then this is the speaker for you. Want to make a sudo-surround/stereo sound type upgrade for your TV? Get two of these and pair them with the Apple TV to give your TV watching a boost!

Bought for the parents to act as a homekit hub since their smart door lock was Bluetooth and couldn't reach the iPad. Works perfect as a hub since it connects to bluetooth and wifi. Nice sound quality, heavy for size, easy to use Siri, so much so, I will buy more to put in other rooms and basement in case one of them has issues (elderly) and can use Siri to call for help. Don't need life alert now. I plan on buying one for me as well to put in bedroom and connect to iPad since I watch youtube before nodding off and have a hard time hearing the tablet speakers. I had a hard time getting the homekit to setup but that was because I had an iPad already acting as a smart hub and needed to turn that off in one settings area and then needed to add the homePod hub to my current named homekit i was using which I had to click that small home icon in upper left corner. This was my first time doing all that and didn't know where the settings were. Thank goodness for the internet and those that take time to create videos and webpages. All has been perfect since install

I haven't been a fan of these small speakers in the past. I'm an IT professional and have read a lot of reports how the Alexa devices were being hacked, and very intrusive.I even had an Alexa device connect to my phone because I connected to my niece's wifi, and it turned on my bluetooth and sent me messages. Not cool. But, I looked into the Apple devices and there've been very few issues like those. I love high definition audio and will never give up my stereo equipment. But, I got a Homepod Mini for my mom and really liked that it's not just for connecting an apple phone and playing music. This is my third Homepod mini for my own home. I was very excited to see my Apple TV connect to my other HPM, so I got this one to have stereo sound, and I totally love it. Far better than the TV speakers. I don't like iphones, but love other Apple devices. I use this one (along with it's partner) for Apple TV, Apple Music, connecting Prime Music, setting alarms/timers, asking questions. I'm thinking of getting one for each room so I can use them as an intercom system.

I got a couple of these HomePod Minis as open-box/used condition. They were actually in really great near-new condition and work great. Definitely great value and worth the purchase at 1/2 price used! I've had Google Assistant as well as a couple Alexa echos. I'm mostly in the Apple eco-system and have wanted to try the homepod for a while. So, review and comparisons ensue ... Sound: Hands down these homepod minis beat both Alexa echo and dot, and Google. Not even close. Both Alexa and Google are dull with little dynamic range, flat and muddy. These have great clarity and range. Clearly too small to be really strong in low-end, but surprisingly good overall! IoT: So far the homepod wins out. I know many will disagree strongly, so let me explain. NONE of the platforms have got it perfect and none of them will work out of the box with all protocols and platforms. I lived with Alexa only for several years and at first I really liked all the skills and integrations - probably more comprehensive than the others out-of-the-box. That said, I got SOOOO sick if it crashing, failing and losing skill settings completely on a very regular basis. I spent WAAAAY too much time troubleshooting and fixing Alexa skills, often requiring deleting everything and starting over. Sooo done with that! Google isn't even worth mentioning, IMO. So, I'm giving the homepods a try as my main IoT hub and assistant. I should note that to integrate the non-homekit devices, I have deployed an RPI device running Homebridge and Scrypted. I've also toyed with HomeAssistant, but for the devices I have HomeBridge is better for me by a good margin. For my use, this setup for IoT has proven to be far more robust, flexible and responsive than Alexa ever was. Internet: Alexa wins by a good chunk. Ask Alexa a general question and she'll give you an answer straight up - ad nauseam at times! Ask the homepod the same question and more often than not she'll only suggest opening your iPhone to look it up - boo! I think Alexa is a little better with games as well (Arkinator!), but we rarely play anything. Can't comment on Google, unplugged that years ago. Listening in: I can't comment on which device may be more secure (almost certainly Apple), or which one listens-in more. What I'm referring to here is more about it waking up when you want it to ... and maybe when you don't! I think Alexa is a bit better at waking up when you call on her. The homepod seems to get lost with ambient noise more. A little frustrating at times to have to repeat commands or yell at the homepod a bit more. They both seem to wake up on false calls - like something said from the TV - at the same rate. Overall I give the homepod the win for my use. I still have my Echos plugged in, but they haven't gotten called on since I deployed the homepods.

I switched from the Alexa Eco Dot to the Apple Pod mini. Although more expensive, the setup was very simple and easy. It sounds better than the Alexa Eco Dot. Better low-end bass output. Plays my Apple Music playlists. Alexa Eco Dot didn’t do that very well. It was like Ground Hogs Day with my wake-up alarm playlist setting always beginning with the same song and never in shuffle mode. The Apple Pod got it right from the start. Overall, I’m satisfied with the Apple Pod Mini.

It's almost not fair for me to review this because I've been so spoiled by my setup of two original HomePods for several years, those things boom. This little guy isn't bad. I have one in my bathroom and another in the bedroom to spread music throughout my apartment. They *do* offer surprising bass for the size, but that's also not saying much for how small these things are. The screen looks nice, touch functions are useful, and they are, of course, very high quality. Connect to usb-c power, and they have temperature and humidity sensors built in. I will say that there are occasional issues where songs will just drop, or take forever to play, but it's very intermittent, and may be more of a wifi issue than a HomePod mini issue.

The unit is small and easy to sit in small places. The sound quality is good for its size and the ease of use is excellent. I have it located in a nice sized kitchen and it fills the room pretty good. If you need a little more room filling sound, you may want to buy the higher tiered model. I wish it was completely wireless by using a rechargeable battery instead of using a wired power adapter. A totally wireless speaker makes it easier to use anywhere without the need of an electrical outlet.

Apple HomePod Mini is a must purchase for any Apple product user. This can be used in any room in the house. It has also inspired me to integrate more Apple HomeKit items into my home and use Siri more for various things like turning on my lights and asking her what the weather is. I have 2 of these speakers paired in my living room, making them a single surround sound speaker. These can then be selected to play sound in addition to my Tv's soundbar for any program I am watching on my 4K apple Tv. One fun thing (sort of :-() ) is that I originally created my Apple HomeKit network at my parents house after I purchased my first HomePod mini. At the time, I gave them access so they could play music on it as well. After I returned home, they were able to turn on and off my music on the HomePod mini, as well as all of my lights from almost 1000 miles away.

Was very impressed by what you can do with this. It's very small, the bass is amazing, and makes a great gift for anyone in the Apple Ecosystem. One thing that impressed me the most was that for Apple TV, you can use this as the replacement speak for your television. If you have 2 of these, you can stereo it for the room (even sounds good with just one). Deep bass and multiple uses like intercom, doing Siri searches, weather, music, and setting timers in the kitchen. There are other smart home things you can do with this, but haven't delved that far yet! Quite pricy but definitely has much potential. The Home app for Apple needs some improvements though...only one owner and you need to add people to it to be able to have multiple users on one Homepod.
