Bought this to replace an old Amazon Echo device. Sound is outstanding and I love that it is small and not an eye sore in our living room. Handoff is a cool feature as well.

It sounds amazing for the size. Though it lack some capabilities where Alexa and google shines, it does produce great music. It’s by far the best small speaker I’ve used (I do have Alexa and google mini speakers, which I use rarely). And the microphone capabilities are incredible. It was able to capture the voice from about 10+ feet away while playing music at about 70% volume. Got some cool animations on the top. And the U1 chip does a great job with newer iPhones (which has U1 in them). If apple could add some smart capabilities to Siri, it would be the best. It’s bit pricey but I think it would last long.

If you are wondering is it worth the money the short answer to this review is yes. However, there is a but! If you are an apple loyalist like myself it was made for you. Sorry android users there is no real cross compatibility I can recommend from experience. The sound is great as I ordered two for more fuller sound in my bedroom. My real con is there are occasions where the music stops playing for the iTunes app just goes silent however quick reset of my AirPlay and in back in business. Also accidentally Getting too close with you phone trades the music off from each other which can be annoying if you are charging you phone near your HomePod while playing music but I go around it. It’s great for areas in the house where you want music but don’t need to feel the base in your soul.

Cheapest way to automate via HomeKit, sounds good

I purchased a HomePod mini not for its speaker, but its computer: to date, this is the cheapest way to automate your home via HomeKit. Well, that's not entirely true -- the homegrown method of running a HomeKit emulator on a spare computer/Raspberry Pi is cheaper if you've got the parts on hand. However, taking all of the configuration, tedium, and unreliability out of the equation for the price of a HomePod mini is a worthwhile expense to me. That said, it works great as a HomeKit hub. It's quick and wholly reliable. The next cheapest option is an Apple TV at $150, and you may not want/need an Apple TV. The HomePod mini can fulfill all of its purposes without any extra hardware beyond an iPhone, whereas the Apple TV requires a home theater system to shine. Of course, both exhibit the blessing and the curse that is Apple's "walled garden" of product interaction. Like many Apple accessories, you're either in or you're out... or you're just kinda in, but not really getting what the hoopla is about... The sound is not worth writing much about. Unlike the full-sized HomePod, this contains a single speaker. It doesn't fill a room, but rather, it reaches across a room. The default equalization is a little flat, but full enough for my tastes; more often than not, I'm simply playing a podcast on it while I'm in the kitchen (roughly where I've positioned the HomePod mini.) It's just acceptable. If it weren't for the HomeKit features, and this were just a smart speaker, I'd be rating it much lower because of its cost. Siri is somewhat quick to respond, and the microphones do a great job of picking up an ordinary speaking volume from a distance. Response time is much closer to that of the iPhone than that of, say, the Apple Watch, which always seems to take at least a few "moments". You can disable the microphones if you please, but to do so will disable Siri, eliminating a ton of the utility this thing offers. Physical buttons are minimal, relying on capacitive "up" and "down" inputs flanking the on/off/Siri button. A cool side note regarding interaction, you can use the NFC in your newer iPhone (any iPhone capable of Apple Pay) to wake the device up and immediately begin playing simply by bringing your iPhone right up next to it. I imagine this capability would extend to other Apple devices, such as the Apple Watch, but I haven't tried that out yet. I can't comment on how these sound when paired in a stereo configuration, but I don't imagine it would change much in terms of audio quality. The single tiny driver inside is only capable of so much. It performs well enough on its own in spite of its limitations, but it's not going to "wow" you -- that's what the full-sized HomePod is for. Overall, when you want to automate the HomeKit devices in your home, this is the cheapest way to do so. Including a decent smart speaker is just an added bonus.

This device is simple to use, plugged it in and my iPhone instantly found it via bluetooth. The sound this device puts out is remarkable for such a small speaker.

Good Pods if you Pair Them

I was very skeptical about these pods. I've never been a "Siri" or "Alexa" person. But since I recently moved into an apartment from a house and still have not had the time to set up my old-fashioned (but much loved!!) stereo system, I figured I'd try these pods (I bought two and paired them). I'm really happy with the sound. I find the "Siri" mechanism is annoying, but I'll live with that for now. Best to whisper around a Siri or else you never know what she'll do ... LOL.

Bought this not too long ago after my original HomePod died and it’s been quite amazing with sound. For only $99 I’m quite happy with it. I’ve got a total of 3 now and placed them all around the house. Lots of music, full sounding, it’s a great investment

I know the price of this product doomed it to irrelevance in the smart speaker market but no matter what Apple decides to do with the HomePod I’ll always love it. It’s super easy to setup, it calibrates itself to sound great no matter where you put it. Siri sounds great, makes Alexa sound like a robot. It sounds amazing. The highs are great, the mid range (vocals) are awesome, the bass is so deep and very satisfying. On top of all that, it’s beautiful in white or black. I have three of them and if I knew that Apple was devoted to the product I would buy many more. A HomePod mini is needed badly and an investment in HomeKit would be helpful too. The HomePod should have been released for 199.00 and even then that would have been asking a lot. 349.99 was an absolutely non starter for 90% of buyers, leaving only Apple fans like me, and even I never paid full price for it. I only bought three when they were on sale for 249.00.

I have this set up in a newly renovated room that leans a little into dark colors. So this blue really pops in my space below is my generic review of the HomePod Mini. Honestly shocked at how much I like this little speaker. It sounds great for podcasts (a little less so for music I must admit). And in a HomeKit enabled home, it works pretty well at taking commands. We have three total now and being able to airplay throughout the house is really cool!

I have been intrigued by this product since released, and frustrated with Apple's pricing practices and desire to be a "top tier" company by only offering high end high price products. This device always seemed a bit overpriced and unnecessary for me as I have a nice sound system connected to my TV, but I wanted something for Home Kit control. I like Apple's focus on encryption and privacy especially with the alway on always listening home controlling devices like this. I have apple Home Kit enabled devices in my house, and wanted a quick way for my pet sitter to turn them on and off when she comes in. I tried the Amazon dot last year, but found it difficult to setup and you need to have the always listening feature on. It also required setting up my already existing already working HomeKit enabled devices in the Alexa app which was hit and miss. I was waiting and hoping that Apple would release a cheaper version of this with less speaker and more control. Then Best Buy had this on holiday sale for 100 dollars off retail price. I figured it was worth a try knowing I had time to return it if it did not work. I set it up in seconds yesterday, and immediately transferred the podcast I was listening to on my phone to the speaker. I often wear headphones around the house and listen to music or podcasts throughout the day. This makes it easy to transfer what I am listening to via my phone airplay button and I can hear it clearly from anywhere in the downstairs. It sounds amazing and is so much easier to use to listen to anything on my phone. Yes you can use it without the Hey Siri feature listening. You can press and hold the center of the top panel which prompts Siri so I can turn off the "always listening" or if it does that annoying digital assistant thing where it mishears something I say that sounds vaguely like "Hey Siri" and becomes disruptive (This has not happened yet). I also like that in the Home app on my iPhone I can turn off the Home pod analytics which will not share my always on always listening recordings with Apple or anyone else. I wish the $200 price was not a promotion, but the retail price. After 1.5 days it has proven its worth and made me realize something I was overtly critical of and uninterested in is as good as I was sure it was not. I like being proven wrong. I am not sure I would pay $300 for it at full price, but if it keeps impressing me like this I might eat those words as well.

Item was better than expected. Siri understands all in my household. We can say her Siri from downstairs and be heard. The set up was very easy, it even connects to my phone and my husbands. Very loud speaker, clear, and we like the ease of taking it places. The only down side is that it’s not wireless, wish this $300 speaker was wireless but it’s great besides that
