Since they have same screen resolution (retina) I consider iPad mini 2 to be more attractive. Great picture, fast, works fine with iOS 8 and very important easy to care.

Same processor as the mini 3 and it's only missing the fingerprint scanner. 32gb is big enough and then throw in the iCloud storage and you have plenty of space.

She ia an avid reader and can read her kindle library easily.

No to bulky so I can care either in my baclpack or hands. Almost the size of a book which is great for reading my class books with the iBooks app.
